Donuts

There is a bakery here that is 100% vegan and makes all sorts of cakes, cookies, and donuts. Everything is delicious and you'd never know any of it is vegan. The vegan aspect of it isn't prominently part of the marketing. Once at an event someone actually said their cupcakes were the best they'd ever had. As the conversation continued, the vegan aspect was mentioned. The person must not have known they were vegan because ... wait for it ..... they walked right off mid sentence. So that quickly it went from the best to ignoring them altogether.

 

Starting to wonder if vegans eat kalenuts instead of doughnuts....

 

I made donuts, only these have chocolate chips, don’t have holes, and are called cookies.

 

Are they made with almond flour? I want the recipe!

 

To make vegan cookies, cakes, brownies, and donuts, you just have to substitute plant milk and vegan butter (which is essentially margarine). They make several types of egg replacer products for baking, or you can also mix a few tablespoons of ground flax seeds with a few tablespoons of water and it makes a binding ingredient with consistency similar to and egg.

Not all but some plant-based meat and cheese in my opinion is extremely close to the meat and/or dairy version, but when it comes to vegan cookies, cakes, brownies, and donuts, I speak with extensive experience from both sides of the equation when I say they're completely indistinguishable. I know of at least three bakeries just in my area that are fully vegan, but do not prominently advertise as vegan just because people have preconceptions. The ingredients are listed, but most people don't read that unless there is something specific they're looking to avoid.

On a side note, after a few years of being vegan, I don't really need things to be like meat anymore. Besides, I've noticed many of the things I used to eat contained meat, but the essential flavors I liked most came from things like chilli peppers, fennel, cumin, and other spices. I've eaten things like Impossible Burgers and Beyond Burgers, but I actually prefer a plain old veggie patty that tastes nothing like meat because it has less calories and fat, or just some tofu that I can make taste like anything I want. I like sampling new things too, and trying to replicate things just to see if I can do it, and to try and impress friends who are not vegan. Most meat products people eat actually just taste like various seasonings, salt, fat, and/or sugar.

Nope, just plain flour. It's just a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe with the substitutions I mentioned above. Most chocolate chips contain dairy, so I have to buy vegan chocolate chips too. Most dark chocolate is vegan.

I hope I've not offended or annoyed anyone. I like to eat and I like to cook. Not here to convert anyone, although I will go on record as saying going vegan is one of the best decisions I've made in my entire life. I just wanted to share pics of different things I was eating and thought it would be interesting to others to know they were vegan and that vegans don't just eat salads all day. I do like a good salad though.

 

There is one type of donut. It is the sour cream donut. It is glazed.

Unless Dunkin runs out, then occasionally there are two types of donut, the other being Peanut Butter Cup.

 

Seafood is harder to replicate. Something like a crabcake that has lots of seasonings and breading can be done well, but something like a piece of fish or a shrimp has a pretty unique texture.

There must be something about mozzarella that is hard to simulate, because none of the vegan cheeses taste exactly like it or melt quite like it. I still like the flavor of it and once you get used to something different, you start to crave that instead of the other. There is a vegan smoked gouda that comes in slices that I love to use in grilled cheese sandwiches.

There is a bakery here that makes a "brookie" (brownie on the bottom / cookie on the top). I'll take a pic next time I get one.

Saw this in the display case but didn’t get it. Need to lose a few pounds. Might come back here to celebrate before The Rise of Skywalker though. I will have earned it by then.
