I love the visuals of David Lynch (big fan of him) Dune, but unfortunatelly que movie makes me sleep.
Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors of the new generation. I am excited about this new project.

IDK. I dont want Denis to make another big budget sci-fi movie based on a source material people greatly overrate the popularity of so it doesn't do great at the box office and then Denis is kind of stuck with the "can't do big movies" tag which is dumb

I'm pretty excited for this, Dune was just a little past my grasp and energy to really become a huge fan. I think a reiterated version will definitely help against the movie I've seen.

Read Dune in December/January and really enjoyed it. Watched Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 too. Thought Arrival was interesting but not great or fun, but I ADORED Blade Runner 2049. And I don't even like the original Blade Runner! So yeah, I'm super excited for this.

I think you're right, a Dune film by Villeneuve IS likely to flop, or at least is certainly in no danger of becoming a Guardians of the Galaxy style success. But honestly as long as it gets made, who cares? A novel I absolutely love getting a fresh treatment by a director with vision and style. Bring it on! The only downside would be if they plan to make multiple movies out of the first Dune novel but don't get to finish them because of bad box office. That would truly be a shame. I'd love to see a concurrent trilogy get made like Lord of the Rings, but yeah that's probably pure fantasy on my part.

I’m super down for this. I was really excited when I first heard about it so long ago. My concern is the potential John Carter-itis of it. Dune was the cornerstone inspirational piece for so many works in the space (like Star Wars) that it could come off as referential to an audience that doesn’t understand it introduced so much that’s become common convention now. I haven’t had any complaints about Villeneuve so far. I’m gonna remain optimistic about this until I have reason not to be.

Haha. You beat me to it. I was just about to post this.
I'll have to check out some of his acting. I'm not framiliar with his work. I'm very excited for these movies though. I love DV's style. Super talented.

I read recently that he's doing two movies off the bat so as not to cram everything into one film. He said that he's also going to stick close to the books.

He appeared in Interstellar as the non-Murph child of Matthew McConaughey, but if you want to see him in some more substantial roles, check out Call Me by Your Name and Ladybird. The former one is a really lovely romance (he plays the lead there) and the latter is a nice coming-of-age story (there he plays a love interest of the main protagonist.) Both were nominated for multiple Oscars last year so they shouldn't be hard to find.

Love Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival. Love the novel Dune. Love David Lynch, but thought he missed the essential texture of the novel in his adaptation. Can't wait for this project. I think Villeneuve's grounded sci-fi sensibility is perfect for this.

Do we know who's the cinematographer on this project? I think it would be perfect if Villeneuve brought Bradford Young or Roger Deakins on again. Either of their styles would serve this story so well.

Did you like what Young did with Solo? Could be an aesthetic similar to that. Though some of the look might have been dictated by LFL to maintain visual continuity. Hard to say.

Rebecca Ferguson is going to play Lady Jessica. I have only seen her in the last Mission: Impossible film but I liked her in it, so I'm quite happy she'll get this role, especially since she seems to be a capable stunt fighter as well.

Is this really going to happen? As an old Dune fan myself, I’m pumped. Just stumbled onto this threat way to late…

Some BTS new - Greig Fraser, the cinematographer of Rogue One will be the film's cinematographer, while Joe Walker, Denis' frequent collaborator, will handle the editing.
