Act 2, 2nd movie ;) (alternatively, perhaps the climax of Act 1, 2nd movie). That said, there's a scene in the trailer that could be related to all of that (although it could, of course, be a prescient 1st movie vision foreshadowing something happening in the 2nd one).

I’m hoping it ends with a simple piece of text on the screen “To be continued in Dune: Part Two - coming to cinemas 2023” ;)

Unfortunately, we know with 100% certainty that it will not end with such a upbeat message. Legendary & WarnerBros have not signed off on a "sequel" yet, and by all indications won't do so unless this one is a resounding success at the box office... which it won't be since they're releasing it simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max, meaning it is already doomed to underperform at the box office. To be honest, an objective miracle has to occur for Part Two to happen. We can hope for a miracle... for insane numbers of people coming out of hiding to see this movie (and spread the plague), but it isn't very likely, I'm afraid.

We don’t know what we don’t know. I mean I’m not expecting it, but someone could decide the film is so good they greenlight part two a week before the film is shown. :)

So I decided to read the book before seeing the film & it’s just make me even more determined to see it.
I have no idea where DV is going to end the first part but given a certain character dosent turn up in the novel till after the half way point I’m going to guess it’s not a straight 50/50 split.

oh & apparently DV is busy working on the script for part 2 so hopefully we will get to see his complete vision of the novel.

The assumption is that Part One will end with..
Paul flying the ornithopter into the sandstorm to escape the pursuers

    Also, that one character...
Feyd Rautha, will open Part Two with the gladiator scene

    Actually I was referring to
Chani (Zeldaya) as she doesn’t turn up till after the storm.so either Part 1 finishes after the storm or she is getting a bigger part in the film.

    Oh, that character there,
Is definitelly getting a MUCH bigger/earlier role. We actually start out with her in the movie, talking about how her home is being invaded by successive colonial powers, or whatever. Personaly, I also suspect that Chani might show up in entirely new scenes... there are several battle scenes in the trailers that I can't recognize from the book, so they are probably playing up the Freeman plight quite a bit in the movie.

I don’t personally care about professional critics’ reviews very much, but I do hope it gets good reviews if it helps the box office and ultimately means part 2 gets made. It’s a shame part 2 wasn’t confirmed and in production before this one was released, but I’d take half of Villeneuve’s Dune over nothing regardless.

I think this film looks fantastic from everything I’ve seen of it so far.

I saw this yesterday and, despite the film lacking my favorite scene from Dune, (which they cut for very understandable reasons), Dune Part 1 is an absolute masterpiece. I'll watch it at least a couple more times in the theater! Perfection!

Curse you @Angelman I have to wait until the 21 October to see this.
I’m also really intrigued as to what your favourite scene that they had to cut is.

I don't know why it was premiered on September 15th over here... haven't a clue! Perhaps to drum up reviews or something? *shrug*

The film takes a few liberties with the structure of the story (as you pretty much have to when adapting a complex book into a film), and they cut...
...the "Dinner Scene", which is understandable. Dune Part 1 focuses on the drama and the glory of the story, with a strong pace and all the feels, and there is no room to watch 20 people sit about and trade insults and innuendoes for 15 minutes. It's a marvelous scene in the book, but it would've taken up way too much space in a 150min film, not to mention that it would've required 15+ additional speaking-part actors, with costumes and everything, and a grand dining room of some sort; that's a few million dollars right there!
