It is not just prejudice, it is also finding easier answers - it is easier for people of Naboo to blame Jar-Jar than to accept and admit their hand in creating the Empire. Palpatine is their product and it's not as if Jar-Jar voted gazillion times to elect Palpatine - the entire Senate did. Padme had her hand in it too - as @PrincessLeiaCB3 pointed out, she proposed vote of no confidence that ousted Valorum.

I never saw this interlude as malicious towards Jar-Jar, quite the contrary. It's hypocrisy of the adults and the purity of children that Wending underlined in it. (I know he actually likes the prequels, so...) And, if I think of Jar-Jar as a character, I don't think he would have been dissatisfied with his fate after getting a companion who is similarly ostracized - because of his disfigurement.

It is also interesting to see how our 'good' people are not always shown as right or pure or fair in this new SW canon.

What do you mean by change? Was there a different ending planned? Or is it different in the old EU?

Well, that just tells me that the people of Naboo have a lot in common with many STAR WARS fans who tend to express great hatred toward Jar Jar and place most of the blame of Palpatine's rise on him.

Exactly! Neither all the Imperials are ruthless evil individuals per se nor all the Rebels are pure and kind.

It's a common fact that a first half of the people love what the other half hate, while a third half simply doesn't mind, and the fourth half, the smallest, says this is a conspiracy (yes, people is divided into four halves :) ). You cannot be blamed because you don't like this, and it is not the goal of my post to do so.

Perhaps the worldwide hatred against Jar Jar, his ostracization by the adults and a major part of the fandom, while he is loved by the kids, perhaps all of that has influenced Chuck Wendig when he imaginated, then wrote, that Jar Jar's fate. Well, he won't be the first who introduces a bit of real world in SW. Wasn't the Guardian of the Door at the Jedi Temple named "Cin Drallig" because the stunt coordinator for the prequels was named "Nick Gillard" ? Isn't that gungan named Jar Jar Binks due to the inventive Creator's Son ? Isn't Mace's blade purple, just because of a personnal guess from Samuel Lee Jackson?
Well. Why not an ending for Jar Jar inspired by the (often violent) reactions to him in our real world ? Lady Musashi was soooo true when she wrote:
A bit of philosophical dimension to end the fate of one of the most hated characters of the Saga, the bet was risky, and I think Chuck Wendig did it well. Even if some disagree :) ... and once more: nobody is to blame here, among the four halves: the ones who love Jar Jar, the ones who hate Jar Jar, the ones who doesn't matter of Jar Jar, and the last half, the smallest one, who's convinced Jar Jar is actually Darth Plagueis.
For my part, I simply agree with Royle Rancor last words for Jar Jar:

Yeah it's a lesson learned that gungans don't belong in this galaxy's politics, one wrong emergency grant of authority will lead to destruction.

I thought Wendig did a good job closing out Jar-Jar's life and I do feel sad for him now. I wonder if we will see the orphan boy on Naboo appear in additional media.

Hot sauce, Cholula to be exact, and a little cilantro and white onion. Street taco style.

Lucas had a game for kids about Naboo and the Gungans that came out before Star Wars Galaxies. I played the game, grew to like the Gungans and their fantastic underwater city. Jar Jar was a bumbling oaf who was clumsy, but never mean, always trying his best to fit in with his own people. He had the misfortune to be in the wrong place, at the wrong time and meet the wrong people who had no use for him because he was a clutzy local yokel in their way.

He was an adult Gungan, but he was more of a "the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top floor" kind of guy.

I'll always believe Lucas missed out on what I think would have been a great graphics novel, or series of novel about the Gungans and GungaCity. In my day, they would have been called Comics.

Je sais que beaucoup de gens n'aiment pas le style d' écriture de Wendig , mais je suis d'accord: c'est un écrivain astucieux.
