OK I may take some flak on this thread but hey that is why I love the Cantina.....just saw SOLO last night and really really loved it. There was so much positive speculation about Glover's Lando, I felt we were talking about Spencer Tracy or Laurence Olivier. Much negative speculation about Alden E as Han.

Well, I must say, I LOVED Alden's Han Solo. From the first scenes on Corellia I was bought in, completely. He showed a range of emotions, mannerisms and overall characterization of how I would expect a young Han Solo. Could easily see Alden's Solo transitioning to Ford's Solo in ANH. You can see how they worked hard to make sure of this. For example when Enfy's Nest asks Solo whether he was interested in joining the fledgling rebellion, he handles it perfectly. You can see this Solo characterization continuing through to the end of ANH , on Yavin-IV, when Luke admonishes Han about "caring about yourself, which is what you are best at". then of course Han saves the day at the Trench....after a personal transformation.

Loved seeing Corellia and understanding more about Han's backstory. I thought Alden did great at the Sabacc table, and his interactions with Lando were perfect.

Finally, one of the things they had to nail was the most important relationship in the movie - Han and Chewie. I thought Alden was perfect with Jonas/Chewie, played it with a lot of heart and feeling. Biggest grin/goosebump scene for me was Chewie taking the copilot seat for the first time on the Falcon next to Alden/Solo - Alden's look over to Chewie with the grin was awesome.

So much more to talk about, will be back later.....interested in everyone's take on Alden E.

Alden was a highlight of the movie for me. A surprising one, but the most welcomed one.

I went into the movie hoping that he would convince me by the end of the movie, but I was all in from the moment he appeared.

Additionally, he had great to good chemistry with everyone. But, he (and Joonas) did a great job in building Han/Chewie relationship: from the meeting, Chewie seeing his real nature to Falcon flying.

And, I have to say, he added a few favorite moments to the character of Han:

-The entire posturing in front of Enfys Nest. ("Sorry. Do your thing.")
    -"I hate you. I know."
    -and many little moments.

I really do hope that we get to see his Han again and that he has the opportunity to evolve character even more.

While I am for making also a Harrison Ford CGI version of the film in future where Alden's face will be replaced by young Harrison Ford(guys on the net are already demonstrating CGI conversion is by curent state of technology doable even by fans themselves), I agree Alden is good actor and he has done his job well.

@McDiarmid In my opinion that is a horrible idea. Of course , the fact that I am not a Harrison Ford fan probably is influencing me. The name of the movie is "SOLO", not "FORD".

Alden did outstanding. He came in with TREMENDOUS negative pressure on him....and he DELIVERED.

I wouldn't be surprised if these are the same fans, that complained about CGI Tarkin and Leia in R1. Because fans.

This is why people shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. I'm pretty sure Alden knew what the sales were to nail his character. I'm sure he would of received tons of death threats had he got it wrong.

I agree Alden did a great job. He had a lot of pressure and was in an almost no win situation in which he came out of it in good shape. At no point in the movie did I not believe that it was Han I was watching on screen

OK....time to push the envelope here.

I liked Alden's Solo as much as Harrison Ford's.

I didn't check the tickets when buying them online and accidentally watched the German version instead of the OV. The actor who dubbed Ehrenreich in 2018 sounds almost exactly like the original voice actor who dubbed Ford back in the 70s so I immediately felt at home. Now that's what I call a happy little accident :)

I would be against that and that could lead down slippery slope. What's to stop them using the same technology on Ewan or some other actor to recreate Alec Guinness face for an older Obi-Wan? Where do we draw the line?

I know, I like to push the envelope sometimes. As I said, if Ford actually gave more of a #$%^ about Star Wars, or appreciated playing Han, I might have a different opinion.

    Ohhh please not this again.
We already have that horrible substitution of Hayden's Anakin in ROTJ. Please LFL and Disney don't ruin any of the new movies like GL did with the OT.

The tastes differ.CGI conversion will very likely be done some time in the future if from no other reason than for curiosity, and distributed amongst fans.
    This are such times.
Just as Kessel monster will be likely CGI. to have face of Kathleen Kennedy to animate her sinking in a Black hole while Millenium Falcon, symbol of Star Wars escapes to have a life.

Maybe I'm a little bit nitpicky when it comes to CGI but I thought that Tarkin and Leia in R1 were quite distracting. It's not like the CGI wasn't good (in fact it deserved an Oscar in my opinion) but we aren't quite over the uncanny valley yet. If anything they should apply makeup to accentuate certain facial features.

I'm right there with you, and I am a Harrison Ford fan.
Han was always my favorite character of Star Wars, and to me, a large portion of that was Ford's acting. It's why I loved Indiana Jones; it's pretty much the same character.

And here's the funny thing to me, my wife absolutely nailed it for me when we were walking out and said,

"That felt like a Star Wars version of an Indiana Jones film!"

Alden Ehrenreich was a fine Han. I always saw Han, except for the beginning. He looked weird, like a CGI character. Probably because he was de-aged or something like that.
