From the new Vader comic (canon):
    upload_2017-6-22_16-34-45.png

Just yet another example of how new additions to the franchise can explain what may have previously been a plothole. Just gotta be able to think outside the box a little bit.

That is great and all but why would you if not Vader and Palps make sure they are dead.

Pretty sure when they made such an OATH.

They didnt expect the Jedi Order to get killed off, an evil empire to install itself in power and build a planet destroying super weapon.

    @Canadian Ronin

I agree my point was more. If I am The Emperor or Vader I am not leaving it to chance that those Barash Jedi sit around and do nothing to oppose my regime. I am hunting the down and killing them to be sure.

    Erza is debatable.
Kanan and Ahsoka need to be taken care of if you ask me. Ashoka moreso since she actually has direct connections.

Well, I can't really say for sure how seriously the Jedi take their vows, but not meddling in the affairs of the Jedi makes it pretty what they can and can't do- so if they take it pretty seriously, as some religious sects do, then it's not really an issue story-wise.

As for Palpatine and Vader- if the Barash was taken so seriously, then they'd know there was nothing to worry about.

    No it doesn't- sorry.

It's canon now, buddy. I honestly don't care either way what your opinion is. Just wanted to bring this overtly new canon example to the table for this discussion- though, as predicted, it seems a discussion may not even be had (despite the total lack of authority on deciding canon in this thread).

    Anyway, cheers. Sorry!

Yes it does. They exist, they can take action, they can teach etc.... Also when does barash end?

I realize you'll claim they won't/don;'t take action, they just mediate or something, but thats clearly not true - http://subscriptions.marvel.com/images/PRODUCT/FUL/6427_ful.jpg

Sorry, this doesn't give you your magical out.

Yoda & Obi-wan existed for the 20 years after ROTS. did they take action? did they teach?

could they have gone off, found new force sensitives and trained enough Jedi to take on the empire during those 20 years? yes. did they? no

it's interesting that so many are getting hung up on Luke being the absolute 'Last Jedi' because of things Yoda & Kenobi said during Empire and ROTJ.
Would Yoda even know if all Jedi (Ahsoka and padowans included) were alive or dead stuck there on Dagobah where he went so nobody could find him?

What if Yoda meant that Luke WILL be the last Jedi... a reference to an event that we're yet to see in the ST. perhaps he foresaw that the Jedi will end.

The OT was never about the Jedi fighting the Empire. Yoda & Kenobi gave up that fight after order 66, the OT was about the resistance fighting the Empire and Luke's journey to save his father.

in spite of all that.. i don't disagree that 'things' would be cleaner for the story if there are no other Jedi anywhere, but i just don't think that everyone will die in rebels.
Kanan i think is possible... but they won't kill off Ezra in a cartoon, and i'd say good luck to anyone trying to get around Dave Filoni to kill of Ahsoka.

Yes, at least Obi-wan did. And the issue Jedi cause in the OT is that Luke doesn't HAVE to stand on his own. The whole point of Luke being the last Jedi is that he is the ONLY one who can confront Vader and Palpatine. If he fails there is NO ONE who try again.

Everyone won't die in Rebels - but the 3 Jedi characters have to.

Well we all see these things differently.. which is one of the beauties of Star Wars, and why i come back here every day.

Yoda never planned on training Luke to fight Vader & the Empire.. they had given up that fight. Obi-wan was never going to train him... it seems to me that they were content on hiding Anakin's children and themselves away forever.

if the stakes were that high that if Luke fails that there would be nobody to try again.... why on earth did Kenobi not start training him when he was young? The only reason that there might be nobody else is because they have done nothing for 2 decades. If the Jedi are about to become extinct.. why didn't they do something earlier?

my main point here is that i don't believe it mattered whether or not there were other surviving Jedi's in the galaxy.. as it doesn't seem to me that Yoda & Kenobi had the intention to keep the order going.

Yoda trained Luke because he needed to be a Jedi for what he was going to face.. at that point Yoda believes that Luke WILL be the last Jedi. (eventually)

    just my humble opinions.

Yoda and Obi-wan never planned to train Luke and Leia? Citation needed. Cause in RotS:
OBI-WAN: I will take the child and watch over him. Master Yoda, do you think Anakin's twins will be able to defeat Darth Sidious?

YODA: Strong the Force runs, in the Skywalker line. Hope, we can . . . Done, it is. Until the time is right, disappear we will

The in-universe reason Obi-wan didn't trainer earlier - Owen chased him off. The real reason.....Lucas didn't come up with one when he made the ST.

You're wrong. Simple as that. Luke story completely HINGES on being the last Jedi. If he loses........thats it. No more Jedi, the Sith/Dark Side win with no one to oppose them.

Is that from the original script or alternate ending? its been a while since i watched it, but im sure it never made it into the film.

So they wait 20 years till they are almost too old and then decide to train the last jedi and throw him at vader and sidious, and the reason for waiting is uncle owen chased off kenobi? lol
I gave my opinion and clearly stated as much, so there is no need for that.

I respect your opinion, but until the whole saga has played out.. especially given the name of the next movie and what we know so far.. it is opinion only.

We will have to see how it pans out :)

Agreed. @Canadian Ronin, I wholeheartedly disagree with what I see as a pretty limited perspective on the series, but I totally understand that we're all fans and have our own opinions. I think what baffles me about this thread is what is see as arrogance.

Now we're not even dealing with the hypothetical "unknown reason" that jedi may have not been able to help Luke- we have a pretty solid example in canon. Sorry if you're not a fan of it, Ronin, but... well, it's there, and neither you or I can be the ultimate arbiters of its value.

Seeing as this really isn't going anywhere (as always) I think it's probably time to back out again. Basically, just wanted to clear the air a little, in case my last post sounded a little harsher than I intended.

    The script.

In-universe - Yes, Obi-wan didn't want too/couldn't force he way onto the farm to get to Luke, he had to wait until Owen was dead or changed his mind. There was no Jedi to teach Leia. Reality - Lucas wrote a mediocre PT.

Opinions are great, but they don't over ride facts. The story being told in the OT, and that climax's in RotJ is of Luke being the only one who defeat Vader and the Emperor - he is the only Jedi, the only one who stands a chance. If he doesn't do it, no one will else will come out of the wood work. If he fails.......games over. Other Jedi running around negates these stakes.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jun 23, 2017, Original Post Date: Jun 23, 2017 ---
No we don't. Your "solid example" hinges on a barash Jedi not taking any kind of action at all, but we know thats not the case. The cover (we don't even need to read it) to the next issue proves this.

Even issue 2 - Barash divorce themselves from the Jedi order - nothing saying they can't train someone, nothing saying they can't fight someone.

Not only does it assume that Barash Jedi would do nothing.
It assumes that the Emperor and Vader would assume they would do nothing and thus leave them alone.
With this new comic coming its even more unlikely they assume that.

I agree, it's not the Sith way to leave loose Jedi threads hanging around the galaxy, especially when they have actual records of said Jedi. From reading the comic, I never got the impression that Vader and Sidious would leave any Jedi alone, but rather prioritize which ones needed to be dealt with first.

I suppose Barash could be factored in to whatever formula they use.
    Obviously Jedi Masters First.

Someone like Kanan probably could have skated by forever as long as he stayed anonymous.
Hunting down every Padawan probably not worth it.

    Really?
    YODA
Luke...Luke...Do not...Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor,
or suffer your father's fate, you will. Luke, when gone am I
    (cough),
the last of the Jedi will you be. Luke, the Force runs strong in your
family. Pass on what you have learned, Luke...

    (with great effort)
    There is...another...Sky...Sky...walker.

He catches his breath. A shiver runs through the ancient green
creature, and he dies. Luke stares at his dead master as he disappears
    in front of his eyes.

Remember, we have no idea how long a Jedi who goes into Barash stays in Barash. Not very smart to ignore a Jedi in the middle of barash only have them stop and start fighting you, training more Jedi....
