Is anyone else sad that the Skywalker saga is over? For the past 40+ years we've been able to anticipate the PT or ST, or George saying there are 6, 9 or 12 movies and have fun discussions of what each would bring and what stories we hoped to see. Now we have the entire story and I find myself waxing nostalgic for that unknown. I guess it's hard to believe it's completed. :(
Of course other movies set in the SW universe are planned and I'm eagerly looking forward to those.

Which is why it's not really the same feeling as it was for the PT. There's going to be tv shows, movies, games and books. Say what you will about Disney, but they're going to keep making content as long as people keep paying for it. They're not going to Lucas it and put their hands in their pockets with it as Lucas did.

Well, it was kind of more of the Palpatine Saga. So that should assuage your sadness some

You know that even though her blood is Palpatine she would rather identifiy as a Skywalker? That goes against everything that Palpatine wanted for her.

Of course I'm not sad. For two reasons:

First. We have 9 movies to rewatch anytime we want. During my days when I was a kid and a teenager I just had three.

Second. This saga is not over. Rey is a Skywalker now, she will continue the legacy. In 10 or 15 years we gonna see a sequel of the sequels, the SST.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the new movies and shows but with no new Skywalker stories to tell the nature of SW will not be the same.

Yeah, it saddens me a bit. I spent the latter part of the 70's and most of the 80's consuming everything I could learn about this story...about the Skywalker siblings, and how Vader was once Anakin Skywalker....this was the story of their family tie to the Force....and now it's gone....written off to time.

I know there are going to be more movies, and Disney will milk this cow for everything she's worth, but to me, it'll never be the same....but I'll see those movies anyway, just from a different perspective.

Personally, I was taken by surprise by alot of things but ultimately ended up really enjoying them. And I like how they left the galaxy so far. In a very similar rebuild time to at the end of ROTJ leaving it open once again for interpretation as to what happens next.

Maybe the last we see of the Skywalker lineage for a while but there is at least some other mention of "skywalkers" in Star Wars. In Thrawn Alliances,
Thrawn tells Anakin that the Chiss refer to force-sensitive pilots as "skywalkers". So there's that. Furthermore, he says that "skywalking" is necessary to travel through the unknown regions of the galaxy. Plus we have rumors of a Rebels sequel being in the works, meaning we'll get to see more of Ezra (a known "skywalker" who is currently in the unknown regions) and Ahsoka, (an actual Skywalker's apprentice).

The Skywalker heritage is such an integral part of Star Wars. So while they might all be ded, their legacy isn't. We're still going to hear "skywalker this" and "skywalker that" for years to come, even if we don't see any living Skywalkers. And there are still projects rumored to be in the works that take place way back when, you know, before they were wiped out. So we may see more Skywalkers in the future..er....past. Who knows.

    Not really.:D
For those of us who were around and got to experience all the movie releases it was never much about Palpatine, that's a recent revision with TRoS. The PT certainly put more attention on him but he wasn't the main focus of that story and he was left out completely of TFA & TLJ. Although you do make an interesting point that viewers joining in later may come to see it that way.

@General Kenobi Yes....yes....yes!!! 55 yrs old here, 12 yrs old saw the original in the theater. Very very bittersweet time for me as a SW fan.

The timing of Disney+ took some of the "edge" off the sadness for me. The new series The Mandalorian really gives me "A New Hope" for the future of SW

The Sequel Trilogy and all of the surrounding... disagreements have helped me fully understand, that being too attached to the past is a bad thing. Sure, childhood is (usually) an awesome time and the experience of first seing something like Star Wars is amazing. But it can never be repeated. So, thank you, Skywalker Saga, for everything, but it is finally time to move and appreciate new things, that's coming our way.

I never thought I would say this, but I am glad that the Skywalker saga is over. The Skywalker family is too precious to me, and I had 42 years of expectations, that were not really met or satisfied in the sequel trilogy, so I am looking forward to having whole new characters to follow and fall in love without any expectations to them.

I agree that the 9 movie saga just adds layers to the OT (which was already great on its own). I really look forward this summer to watching all 9 in order on Bluray and see how different I look at the story knowing Palpatine is scheming in Episode 1 and his granddaughter lurks 7 movies down the road.

The Episodic/Saga films may be finished, but they exist in perpetuity now and we as fans have a complete story to enjoy for the rest of our lives, which is amazing.

"All Good Things Must Come to an End", but, "We'll Always Have Paris".
