I will have no trouble avoiding spoilers next time, because I'm just not anticipating it as much as I did TFA, which is to be expected considering that movie covered the 30 years since the OT and we had to catch up on the Big Three. Also, I like to speculate because it's like putting together the bits of a puzzle. I really like mysteries, and I love reading other people's theories. But some of TFA seemed... illogical. As if they could make anything happen simply because they wanted it to, or it was convenient for the story. So, in that way, I don't really care to know because there's no fun in debating things in that context. I'll admit I haven't seen any of Rian Johnson's work, though, so perhaps I should before I jump to that conclusion.

Also, I did know too much. It wasn't as fun as it would be had I not read all the spoilers. Furthermore, it led to unnecessary disappointment because fan speculation turned out to be more awesome than the real thing :D. I haven't been "fair" to the film, and it's my own fault.

I avoided all the spoilers and only watched the the first and second teasers, the official trailer, the international trailer (Japanese) and the 60 seconds commercial before I watched TFA. I can tell you one thing, it is a much better experience when you are completely spoiler free. I was completely suprised by the movie, especially how good and inventive it recreated star wars for us and introduced so much new. I did do spoilers for episode II and III and those movies were almost completely ruined for me because it was eventually a toned down experience for me in cinema with all the spoilers. I ended up with this website because it offered information about when the trailer was coming out, who was cast, when shooting began, that sort of stuff, and because of the fact that it did nog give away spoilers in its headings. It allowed me to choose what I wanted to read. Normal spoilerless Star Wars news. I also like spoilerless discussion and conjecture by people who actually don't know what is going to happen. If you have people who have seen all the spoilers and start throwing them out before the actual movie I get a bit upset. Therefore I'm avoiding the Rogue One threads like a zealot, and am planning to avoid the episode 8 thread as soon as shooting for the movie actually begins.

This horizontally gifted, assertive individual of questionable repute had an interesting point in his review.

I got ahold of every spoiler I could regarding TFA. I did so out of some sense of due diligence.

I've been watching a lot of the angry reviews on TFA over the past week(reconnaissance(vicious)), and one of common themes I was hearing (out of numerous:mad:) was that none of these people really paid any attention to spoilers. It's subtle, they don't come out and say it, but they stayed spoiler-free. They walked into that theater only knowing what was in the hype-filled commercials (that were padded with bogus dialogue, bogus shots, and some deceptive cutting).. and paid the price.:(

I'll get my hands on everything I can from Episode VIII.(r2-d2)

I watched every leak for 7 ... and the movie was NOT ruined for me! It actually made it better!

    @thepostaboveme:

Don't call someone like that! Dislike from me for that reason.

The term "spoilers" is a misnomer for me as they don't spoil anything. For me knowing a little or a lot of information about something I care about in advance of seeing it does not harm/ruin my experience in any way, shape, or form. It's the incessant negativity from others about something I love that tends to put a damper on my experience. That being said, I wouldn't want to ruin the experience of others who do believe in "spoilers" as something that would ruin their experience.

I'm a spoiler freak, so I will keep spoiling myself. It doesn't ever hurt my viewing experience cause I literally forget it all while watching.

Bring on the spoilers! I'm not going to actively look for spoilers but I won't put much effort into avoiding them either.

    Man that's some STRONG willpower!

So you guys who avoided the spoilers... when seeing all the sites on Jakku & all the aliens... were you just like "holy blast! Holy blast!" every 5 seconds?

It's beginning to dawn on me how easy things could get spoiled now... like say if there's a pic of Adam Driver on Skellig or something like that?

Darn it, I was all convinced I should give up my spoilerific lifestyle, and here you've cast doubt on my plans!

DO you think perhaps those people avoided spoilers, but still engaged in a lot of speculation, either with friends or in their own minds? I think that's the biggest problem, but I don't know how folks would avoid doing that. If you're a fan, you'll spend a lot of time thinking about it, fan is short for fanatic, after all.

The thing I love about spoilers is that I get a ton of mileage out of a movie that way. It's as fun before watching it, as after. Maybe there's some type of middle ground. If there is, I'm unlikely to find it as I tend to get carried away with things......

i love the speculation. guessing the plot from tidbits of info, cast interviews, leaked set photos and of course whatever comes from MSW is so much fun!

however - when you get to the stage where people are claiming to know the plot, i will do what a great deal of other members do....

i'll read them because i have zero soddin willpower lol.
I have failed your highness, i am not a jedi like my father before me... i will read the feckin spoilers!

I checked out far too many spoilers for TFA but I still enjoyed the movie.
It made me cope with Han's death a bit easier too I think.
The problem is I have to read spoilers as I have a couple of friends that know how much I love StarWars and they would try to spoil it for me anyway.
I'd rather read spoilers and take a pre-emptive strike against these people.

I do indeed think they did. The problem is not just speculation but that it is coupled with a vast diversity of opinion on what the movie should look like. Long story short: it was impossible to please every fan no matter what direction JJ took. So it pays off venting about it ahead of time (like I did in February) and you're able to be at peace with what you got.

It does pay off to vent about it, although I did mine afterwards, because I just thought the spoilers must be leaving out a great deal. Well, they weren't. I thought the storyline itself was not terribly well done, and I've come to grips with that. Now I can enjoy the movie much better and like it for all the many things it DID get right, and look forward to the next one. It probably would have been better if I'd figured all that out before TFA actually hit the screen.

I would be lying if I did not admit that even I was bit astounded at how accurate MSW's bombshell was back in February. Initially I shrugged it of that Friday as bs.. then, Monday morning laying in bed, it clicked. It was true. Everything else that came down the pipe just reinforced it.

I just thought there were parts missing. But really, there weren't, though I do think some things were cut.

They cut quite a bit. Sledgehammer, arm rip, kor sella.. but at least we know they were true at some point.
One thing I was extatic about was Rey. 2014 we got a lot of spoilers indicating she was the main character, especially after it was leaked she had signed for all three films. Then in late November JJ's mystery box took over and switched the focus to Boyega. But I held out a sliver of hope this film wouldn't be another sausage party. You should have seen the look on my face when I saw her front and center on the poster.:D
