Can we also just acknowledge for a moment the colour palette being a callback to Revenge of the Jedi? It instantly makes this title perhaps even more memorable than it may have been.

TFA made us ask "the Force was asleep?", and that was pretty much it.

TLJ has so many layers to it, in title and title card form. TFA was the best way to market a reboot/sequel and will be taught in education for years to come; I think TLJ is a lesson on how to capitalise even more on that. Everything we've had so far - and yes, I know it's been very little, but alas - has been genius. Fingers crossed for more in the coming weeks!

Agreed, on all points. The title is just ambiguous enough that the possibilities and speculation of such are endless...and adds FUEL to the hype train that (I will suspect) will make a run, and potentially beat TFA at the box office. This one's going to be a good one!!

"Jedi" as a word is both plural and singular. A Jedi, the Jedi, those Jedi, we Jedi, Jedi temple, Jedi Council, etc.
If Luke fully trains Rey, then there are two Jedi. Not two Jedis. The two Jedi remaining are the last Jedi.;)

Ok, perhaps in his solitude that Luke has seen the failings of their ways...their beliefs....and their indoctrination, and he decides those ways were the reason for their downfall, and instead trains Rey in "the ways of the Force" and to not brand her a Jedi. In THAT case, who are the other Jedi? :)

THAT is also a good question...of all of the possibilities. Is it symbolic....Red...anger or hatred?? Remember the original "Revenge of the Jedi" posters.....RED, before Lucas decided that Jedi weren't vengeful. This could be bad! :)

I think it may be hinting at a very suspenseful moment in the film.

Yoda told Luke that the last of the Jedi he would be. So does it mean Luke? Or perhaps the last Jedi is truly Kylo? He was a Jedi until he turned to the dark side. It is still my belief that the Sequel Trilogy is all about ending the Sith and Jedi absolutes. I think Luke learned that creating a new Jedi Order mean there had to be dark side users to fight it. So instead, I think Luke went to look for answers as to where the Jedi went wrong. Meaning, no new Jedi. A new order of Force users. But no new Jedi.

Which is terrible. The jedi are a fundamental part of the Star Wars universe. Blech....this new lore is starting to stink.

The idea that the Jedi are extinct or would go extinct is not at all attributed in the title. It's The Last Jedi. It's not the Final Jedi. End Of the Jedi.

The Last Jedi could mean a person or people. It doesn't even have to be Luke. I suspect strongly there are multiple meanings to the title just as TFA had. The Force awoke in Rey. It awoke in the universe. Luke was found. Even Kylo awoke in his twisted way.

Not when they fill out the 30 years between the OT and ST, finish up TCW, and bring the Old Republic era back with the likes of Revan in tow :D

Exactly my thinking, and I think this plays into him being on Ahch-To: the birth place of the Jedi Order. He may have been questioning why this all happened, why his father turned to the dark side only to come back, and perhaps most importantly: if the Jedi are to still exist, what is their purpose in the galaxy now? Has it changed since before the Galactic Civil War, during the Clone Wars? Should he actively be seeking out new pupils, or, like with Rey, should they be seeking him?

I get your point, but I think that will end the franchise once and for all.
IMO SW needs the Jedi and needs to call them so. Not trained force user or whatsover...

And as I said above: Perhaps that the FO only THINKS that Luke's the last one. Heck, for that matter, maybe Luke thinks he's the last, when in fact there are others...faded into obscurity, hidden...like Yoda and Obi-wan. Just some thoughts...

Makes me wonder though if Kylo's finish what you started meant to.kill the last remaining Jedi since he's a Jedi killer.

I mean he's not going to find Luke for a family reunion.

The Jedi and sith ebb and flow. Just because we have the last of the Jedi now does not mean they'll be extinct. In fact, in most Star Wars movies at this point, there's arguably less than 10 Jedi in the Galaxy (allowing room for the possible survival of the Ghost crew and any stragglers in the GFFW).

From Episode 1's beginning to the end of TFA, less than a century has passed. Two huge regimes fell in that time, and still the Jedi remain. And honestly, in the grand scheme of things, that's not that long of a time. The Jedi and Sith have both seen catastrophe that big, sometimes worse. It's been an eventful century, that's sure, and both sides are struggling to get back on their feet- but that doesn't mean the Jedi are extinct at all.

Kylo: I'm here to finish what my grandfather started- transcribing grandma Padma's green bean casserole onto this holodisc! Come around, Skywalkers and Solos, gather around the table!

What if Luke is literally the last jedi?
I mean, what if Rey is the beginning of a different era of force users?
