If her origins were going to be revealed I wonder if it would be the final scene of Episode 8 and the explanation of that origin the focus of Episode 9? Just my thoughts.

    What do you think?

I think 8 will be her parentage reveal. My reason for thinking so is that the outline going to 9 is probably not detailed enough to give a substantial synopsis of her parentage.

It would also be damn mean if they are gonna make us wait 3 or 4 years to find the answer!

I think it will come at the end of 8 in some way (maybe not entirely). It would fit with the ending of the middle episode delivering a story changing revelation. Vader tells Luke he's actually dad at the end of ESB. The clone army goes into battle and the Death Star plans are seen at the end of AOTC. It fits that something is coming towards the end of Ep. VIII, to be expounded upon in IX.

She's gonna be a clone of anikin. Cause being the daughter of luke won't really be satisfying, since everyone guessed that.

    J. J. Abrams has gone on record as saying that Rian Johnson will be the one with the "I am your father" duties.
"Keep it simple" is the operating keyword in this kind of story. Going for something like that would raise a bazillion questions and would arguably taint the existing mythology.

Do you remember when he said that? (Not implying it's made up... I'm just curious.)

They are crazy if they don't reveal her lineage at least in some capacity in Episode VIII. It will only create more expectation that will be really hard to meet. I'm gonna be really mad if they make us live through 3+ years of speculation about this :(

when JJ talked about it at the same event he only mentioned Rian's film and not wanting to reveal his secrets, he didnt mention episode 9 or Colin Trevorrow, so that makes me think he knowes its revealed in episode 8.

my personal theory is we will find out who Rey is in Episode 8, but Snokes back story will be saved to episode 9.

I think if she is Luke's that will result in some major eye rolling rather than being satisfactory.
What's more, we're not going to see the first interaction between Rey and Luke - which is a cop out not to show if they're father and daughter.

In TFA, Han indicates that there are others who "knew Luke best", when he was talking about his old friends' search for the Jedi Temple.
I think this is where Rey's parentage will come in.
I think her parents will have been friends with Luke and helped him in his quest. They could've been Jedi themselves. Then perhaps they are caught up in Kylo & Snoke's search for Luke. Essentially, Luke puts them in danger and they have to leave Rey on Jakku (no other option) while they lead Kylo etc away.

I think it will tie in with the lightsaber story.
My thoughts are that at some stage, Rey's parents become custodians of the lightsaber.
I think the flashback scene ties in with the moment the KOR butcher a group of people that have some link with Rey's parents.

I think Luke might have said that he will be starting the order again on Skellig and for them to bring Rey to him at some point.
So it is kind of her destiny to get that saber, bring it to Luke and train to be a Jedi.
However, the events that bring this to fruition are very different to how Luke originally imagined it.

I also think that Kylo saw Rey at a young age with her parents. He knows her parents.
That's how he recognises her later on. He saw her as the 5 year old Jedi wannabee.

I think that would be more satisfactory.

The question is whether her parents are still alive.

Perhaps it's a ESB/ROTJ situation. Think about it, what you get in ESB is Vader claiming that he's Luke's father, that's it. You are left with lots of questions though:

    -Is he telling the truth?
    -How does that even work?
-Why did Obi Wan flat-out lie about it, and Yoda just not mention it, if it is true?
    -Etc.

Then you get to ROTJ and you get confirmation, justification, a bit of context, and that story strand is tied up.

Maybe they'll do something like that here, or perhaps make it even MORE interconnected?

I don't really hardcore mind if she is or isn't a Skywalker but my question for those of us who want that "She's no one's" outcome I always wonder this....

What if how Luke came to have a daughter is a very interesting and twisting story in itself? Star Wars IS about the Skywalker family.... do you really want them to say "She was the daughter of a force sensitive Luke met from (insert name here) system and they died so Luke hid her away so she wasn't killed" and that's what you get? I feel like that is one of those outcomes where you think you want it then when you get it you say "ehhhh maybe I didn't want this....". Random new character from random new planet has baby who saves the day in ST. I don't know If I would truly be satisfied more than an interesting story about Luke post ROTJ. It's really a hard situation to be a writer in. I think I feel for Rian more than JJ.

Luke having a daughter could definitely be an interesting/compelling story if done well. Especially if he didn't know about her before, or thought her dead. There's real potential for compelling emotional drama right there.

At this point I am open minded about her lineage, but I need to find out in 8 what it is or else I will feel frustrated and probably won't want to watch the next one. 3-4 years is a LONG time to make fans wait. Your thoughts?

    From the novelization:

    KR: It is her
Snoke to Hux: Kylo Ren may have been right about her

Rey is a Skywalker, but the tension will be the reveal to her about this. Luke will be very cautious about how this is done, especially considering the struggles he had with his own parentage and he fears that the truth could drive her away, then top that with Ben's fall to the dark side.

Except from the imagery in TFA, Luke knows exactly WHO she is. You can see it clearly on his face. Thinking she was dead though, that piece is indeed interesting.

Here. He said that he didn't want to spoil anything about Rian Johnson's movie right after talking about who Rey is related to.
The script clarifies that he knows as well.

I want to be honest on this topic: "I don't care who Mary Sue's parents are, it's really hard to relate to her for me.
Maybe her father is Chewbacca and her mother is Leia"
It would explain her awesome skills on the MF and the exaggerated Jedi stuff.

I understand your Mary Sue theory, Rey reminds me of SuperMan and i never liked SuperMan always cheer for Lex Luthor, the normal guy.

But understanding that Rey is UBER JEDI what we expect for the next movies in order to get things balanced and interesting:

    - Snoke is super, super, hiper, ultra, uber Sith to balance things out?
    - Rey is actually Darth Plagueis reborn or DP Clone?
    - Would Rey get an accidental lobotomy and loses control of her powers or at least a big part of them?
    - Luke is actually a really bad dude (if Rey is awesome just imagine Luke, he might be capable of destroying entire galaxies with is jedi powers)
    - Kylo Ren is the real lead on this trilogy and he will prevail over a maniac overpowered Rey in his own path back to light?
    - Rey kills every single bad guy and in the end raises to the skies to sit next to the Jedi Gods, maybe she starts a brand new religion.

(OK, i'm just joking around but the reality is that TFA set the bar for Rey capabilities so high that everything might go south easily in the next movies, how will they top Rey powers in order to keep an interesting movie for us or who will be the super bad guys to face her, honestely i really liked TFA and i consider Rey to be a superb character and a great choice to lead the new trilogy BUT i think they pushed her capabilities a little to much and now the creative team can't "Force Back" or downgrade her and they must deal with the whole movie narrative equilibrium carefully, very carefully)

    Good Post

I can't relate to Rey, because she is superhuman, I don't like the route they go with this character.
To be honest the ST is spoiled for me with her as the main lead if she stays that way.
I'am considering to leave the board, because I don't like TFA and my opinion is unpopular in this board.
Everytime I write something criticism-deserving, I have to watch out.
It starts to get annoying and tiresome to avoid a witch hunt and bad ratings.
