Episode IX the Lightsaber thread ..

Doubt it. Maybe Kylo's saber becomes more "stable".

 

Despite the very disapointing rumors about Rey and her "new" lightsaber in IX. I am still holding out hope for this.

part of a Jedi's passage is constructing a new lightsaber. It would be a shame if Rey did not get that.

 

I doubt they will go here, but double-bladed blue would make a ton of sense. She's used to staff combat. It's potentially foreshadowed by the two lightsaber pieces at the end of TLJ.

 

Ok I know this is wishful thinking but I was kind of hoping we would see the darksaber - I would be in awe if this turned up in episode IX - not only has it been referenced in clone wars and Rebels but also in Rogue one when Jyn and Cassian were looking through the imperial files . Rey’s name in Spanish means King so maybe just maybe she has mandalorian origins ? Or maybe another character like Finn has ? Anyway it would be cool to see it turn up . Otherwise I’d love to see Rey with a double bladed lightsaber similar to her staff and light side version of Maul’s double bladed one.

 

I always hated the dark saber for some reason. It always reminds me of the try hard edge lord players from my The Old Republic MMO days with their black sabers.

 

I think it would be too out-of-left-field for IX, but I would LOVE to see the darksaber in the Mandalorian show.

 

I think Rey will wield the Skywalker saber which is unstable like Ren's lightsaber now, because Rey doesn't know how to fix a lightsaber properly. By the end of EPIX she will have a new one which we may or may not see ignited.
The badly fixed Skywalker saber will be in possession of a living (or dead) Ben Solo. Where it belongs.

 

Well she has the a good portion of the Jedi knowledge at her fingertips and at least a year to fix it. I personally would be upset if she botches a lightsaber repair job in third movie of the trilogy or the gap in between when she should theoretically be mastering her skills as a Jedi.

 

I think i know where it is...

 

The worst possible choice would be a simple fixed version of Luke's blue saber. Even a simple green blade (cue the inevitable "JJ is just copying ROTJ" whiners) would be better. I just want a new aesthetic choice in this trilogy.

 

Yes, this is one of my favorite things from the sequels. And I do think TFA especially had a responsibility to bring Star Wars back to its original aesthetic. But I'm ready for something new again.

R2 picked up the saber at some point when Luke abandoned it, and he's held it ever since.

so, during ep IX Kylo will flee the FO after Hux organizes a mutiny. he travels to Mustafar.. to Vaders castle where he has a huge identity crisis.
Anakin and Luke both appear - after an enlightening conversation and a breath-taking flash back.. Kylo is left kneeling on the floor.
he reaches out to Rey, who answers him for the first time since she closed the Falcon door on him. he sounds different, and Rey can sense it.. he asks for help.

Rey, Finn and R2 head toward Mustafar on the Falcon.

the Knights of Ren suddenly reveal themselves to Kylo. they know he's different... broken. they threaten him.. he doesn't fight.. they take his saber and throw it into a lava pit... thing. it's destroyed.. gone.

Rey & co arrive. Rey had spent the whole trip trying to convince Finn that there is good in Ben, and that Ben should be saved.
they see from a distance that Ben is in trouble.. the knights of Ren are preparing to execute him. Finn is the first to intervene.. he runs toward Ben and opens fire on the KoR, and Rey engages them also with her light saber.
Ben uses the force to free himself and is about to help Rey & Finn, when he hears a string of beeps from R2..
Ben looks at R2 with amazement. he holds out his hand toward R2, and R2 shoots Luke's light saber to him

cue a spine tingling bit of John Williams music.
Ben Solo lays down a galaxy sized can of whoop ass on the Knights of Ren.

But a badly fixed lightsaber would be a great tool of story telling. Her unstable blade would represent her connection with Kylo Ren. Furthermore how epic would this look?!

At the ending she can show off her Jedi skills and build her own saber. But this time correctly!

 

She is the opposing force to Kylo. She is not an unstable basket case like he is. The unstable saber is perfect for him....her not so much. Her arc is more about becoming her own person and finding her own identity. So for me a new saber is much more in line with her character.
