Episode IX the Lightsaber thread ..

What does that mean? Unstable and buzzing like his angry blade? Considering that isn't done until post... how do they know?

 

Had a thought last night that made me excited for the reforged Skywalker saber for the first time. I have been critical about that before but if my theory is correct I will worship the ground at JJs feet . Okay so we know Rey has reforged the Skywalker blade, my thought is what if she did not rebuild the saber for herself but rather for Ben. She has her own saber that she made and that is the one she uses throughout the film (preferrably yellow) but she continues to carry around the Skywalker blade with her much like Aragorn carried around the Shards of Narsil until time it was for the return of the King. So in my head all hope is lost torward the end of the movie and Ben the Last Skywalker seizes the broken blade of his family and leads the final stand with Rey at his side against the new threat from the beyond.

 

So it is confirmed. Blue Anakin saber is back....freaking JJ.

The Obi-wan saber and Luke’s green saber are still out there. So is the purple one.

All of them make way more sense being rediscovered.

 

You mean Mace's purple saber in a trash heap in Coruscant somwhere? What did happen to that I wonder? I assume Vader kept Obi-Wans as a trophy after his sacrifice. That coyld be on Mustafar somewhere maybe...

 

The Anakin/Luke saber is back but I think there still is a chance we see Rey with a new saber by film’s end. Daisy was very coy at Celebration when asked about the saber.

 

Based on this concept art and the first teaser trailer it looks they'll probably just have the same sabers. Maybe Rey will rebuild Luke's as part of her path to becoming a Jedi. It would be cool if she put a different crystal in that lightsaber, but she'll probably just find a way to repair or "heal" it.

If Rey is a Kenobi, perhaps her finding Obiwan's saber among Kylo's collection of Sith and Jedi artifacts and utilizing parts from it could be cool.

 

It makes no sense for her to use a regular saber. She literally wielded a staff her whole life to defend herself. A double bladed staff saber is the perfect fit for her to use.

I get this sequel trilogy likes to look and feel closer to the OT, but a double bladed saber would not take away from that.

I just wouldnt get it if she only uses a regular saber in Ep 9.

The staff thing always felt odd to me...but that’s a cool way for it to pay off.

JJ isn’t usually interested in that kind of payoff, though. He likes asking questions.

 

Fighting with a staff is probably as much different from fighting with a single blades lightsaber as it is from fighting with a double bladed saber.
You will feel the difference as soon as you try to hold the double bladed saber the same she uses the staff.

 

JJ was not the biggest fan of the prequels. I'm pretty sure we're not getting a double bladed anything.

 

The staff made sense for a scavenger... a double bladed lightsaber only makes sense as something that she eventually builds. She wouldn't just immediately modify a saber, a weapon she's never used, into a double bladed saber. Also the hand positions on a staff and the fighting style are very different than a saber. Also, double bladed sabers are a bit wonky, the hilts are oversized and bulky.

 

I don't think we are going to see much new in lightsabers in TROS.

As for the double bladed lightsaber, I would think when you are used to be able to touch all parts of a staff, you would quickly cut off a hand or an arm with a double bladed saber!!! But then, this is all a movie so it doesn't have to make logical sense.

 

I’d personally like to see her fight with two sabers like Ahsoka and Ventress

 

I think what’s hinted at in the trailer is a more acrobatic fighting style. She’s sneakier. More creative. Be fun if the fighting style she chooses is more like Yodas.

 

Storywise there is no need for that. A lot of people just want it because it looks cool. IMO it wouldn't make much sense for Rey to use any other weapon instead of the Skywalker saber.

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of fancy lightsaber duels I had an idea today. Imagine this: Rey and Kylo duel. During their fight there comes a moment when Kylo and Rey are switching their weapons. Now Rey fights with the cross guard saber and Kylo uses the Skywalker saber.

 

So, like the throne room but bigger?

 

That's not a lightsaber switch how I imagine it. Mabye this video can give an idea:

At 1:13 the duelists are switching weapons and keep on fighting.

 

Just to clarify. I meant that when Rey used the cross guard and Kylo used Anakin's saber.

 

I know, but they didn't really use the counterpart's weapon. A missed opportunity IMO.

 

I look at that moment as a tease. Much like Yoda burning the tree as a Force ghost.
