Come on now, those pesky but innocent Midichlorians can't take revenge.

As far as Episode IX titles, this may be reading too much into it, but so far we have this:

The Phantom Menace/A New Hope - 3 words, descriptor with article/adjective/noun
Attack of the Clones/The Empire Strikes Back - 4 words, statement of action, attack/strike
Revenge of the Sith/Return of the Jedi - 4 words, noun/preposition/article/noun

The Sequel Trilogy so far has bucked the trend. Observe:

The Force Awakens: 3 words, but statement of action (like AOTC or TESB)
The Last Jedi: also 3 words, but a descriptor (like TPM or ANH)

I wonder if the title for Episode IX is also going to be three words. What are they? I don't know. But the ST has broken title conventions so far.

My old guess was "Resurrection of the Light" or something like that, and I'm sure after TLJ I'll have a new idea...

 

My only wish is that the title starts with another letter than T, and especially not something that starts with "The".

Something that starts with the letters A or R would be preferable, but since they already broke tradition with TLJ I'm fine with anything at this point.

I've been thinking about this question recently.

The last two trilogies ended with Revenge and Return respectively.

Since the Sequel Trilogy so far has been Force-centric (starting with The Force Awakens), and, since it has been an exercise mostly in wonder and extended speculation (more questions than any answers), and, since I expect Episode VIII will also deliver answers but with more questions yet, this leads me to Episode IX, which, in my mind, would be mostly about resolution and results and replies to the most central queries.

Also, with both trilogy-ending episodic titles starting with "R," this leads me to lean, at this point, to this particularly loaded title:

Revelations of the Force

Earlier I was thinking The War for the Force could be a possibility, implying a final tug of war between Dark and Light-side Force advocates. But the trailer -- specifically Luke's statement "it's so much bigger" [than Dark/Light/Balance] -- persuaded me this might not be correct.

I would like Revelations of the Force for a variety of reasons, including that it could be a "trilogy of trilogies"-level title which could bring closure to the Sequel Trilogy along with the Prequel Trilogy and Original Trilogy.

We could learn more about the Force, Luke, Rey, the fate of the Jedi way, post-Jedi perspectives, Snoke's perspective on the Force and his Dark Side role, as well as, perhaps, how this all extends back to the beginning, if not before, not only to Palpatine and Plagueis, but further back, to the founding of the Jedi, the splintering of the Sith, and the way both groups, up to the present, have used/misapplied/understood/misunderstood the Force.

It's also a title that could "close" and yet keep Star Wars "open" to endless new stories, because it could be shown the Force is beyond anyone's unilateral control or understanding, and it could continue to work in mysterious ways, even to challenge our expectations of it as a seemingly neutral medium.

The so-called "will of the Force" is indeed something to ponder. It is something of a give-and-take phenomena, capable of extending great power while demanding greater responsibility while remaining prone to unintended or opportunistic users.

Given the history of the galaxy and the precarious nature of peace in such a complex realm with competing interests, unless the Force itself was rendered inaccessible, there would always be Force-wielders who could tap into that power for better or worse.

So, perhaps we can be left with a new understanding of the Force, as of Episode IX, and yet left with the rather realistic understanding that, in any era, we must always have champions of Light, ready or not, to step forth and exert back against the Darkness which periodically returns in various masks and iterations to perturb the peace.

And here's where I think a new post-Jedi Force-student academy could potentially rise, perhaps this time successfully, at least for the short-term purpose of giving the galaxy a new generation of guardians who can "pass on what [they] have learned."

 

Please keep "Force" out of the title, because then the film lineup would look like this:

Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
Revelations of the Force

2 Jedi and 2 Force in 4 movies.
