    Filming for VIII is set to begin either late this year or early next year (2016). The movie comes out in May of 2017 so pre-production is obviously speeding along. My question is when will we hear any casting news about VIII. The second act of a trilogy in the Star Wars saga has given us many new characters, like Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, Count Dooku, and Bail Organa. I'm sure that VIII will be a chance to give us a new iconic character, whether hero or villian, that will stay with us the rest of this trilogy. What type of character would you like to see and what actor/actress would you like to see portray that character?

    Last September Rian said they would start shooting VII "this time next year" so cameras should start rolling before the end of the year, meaning prep has started, the script has been all but finished, and casting should be underway now or very soon.

    I'm more curious about Rogue One. I know there's an information blackout, but I feel like one dumb extra or crew member should have tweeted about production or something by now. It's suspiciously quiet. I want to know if it's in production yet.

    You are very right. We are 18 months away from rogue one and the only casting actually confirmed by LFL is Felicity Jones unless I'm mistaken. I can't believe production hasn't started by now.

    Realistically, it probably has. There's just a blackout on all Rogue One promo until Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation comes out. That's why we probably aren't getting table read pics and insider information.

    It seems like Lucasfilm likes for there to be a year in between the offical wrap and the release date. Furthermore the movies shoot for 4-6 months. So if you use that logic.

    Rouge One has either started shooting or will soon begin shooting to be wrapped by December 2015

    Star Wars Ep VIII will start shooting before or Christmas to be wrapped by May 2016

    You have to remember, everything is setup already. Meaning, All or most of the prop ships are built, Stormtrooper outfits are made, alien costumes are already made, most of the production team is in place (production could mean from props to cameramen, lighting, costume designers, etc.) Pinewood is setup for it, most locations will be used again (except for new planets), the list goes on. TFA just finished filming back in late October so everything is there if they didn't throw anything out. It will be much easier to get the ball rolling because they are not starting from scratch. They basically just took a year break and will start filming again.

    That's a really good point I never thought of that. Although hopefully the sets that they need to build are mostly originals, although I'm sure they left the MF that they built up.

    they probably have a lot of unused costume/charater designs that can give us a truly new iconic character, maybe even save some really cool ones, since the first film in the new trilogy needs to have focus on the old generation introducing the new generation... But it would be cool to see Lando back in ep.8 (especially if Han dies)

    Whoever the new characters will be, one of them will probably capture Poe or Finn, prompting Rey to try to rescue them and falling into the trap that Kylo has set for Rey, leading to her inevitable fate of being chopped up into pieces.

    I also of think we need another female hero, kind of like a 2nd level lead, because it would bring a lot of tension to the screen if there was a Finn/Rey/New Character love triangle, that is to say if Finn and Rey are even romantically involved by then. Who knows? For all we know, rey ends up with Poe in the end. I would also like to see some Hutts.....

    Jedi training takes a long time, so there could be months/years between VII and VIII while Rey trains with Luke. Assuming that's where TFA leaves off. October is awfully late to do reshoots, the movie comes out less than 2 months later.

    It says that filming starts next month. But I wonder what's going on with Rogue One. That's the "One" that's supposed to be filming.
