SPECULATION Episode VIII Expectations: Pleasant Surprises or Disappointments

Want:
Luke has a shave and a hot bath scene (joke!).
More R2-D2 scenes.
Knowledge of how Maz got the lightsabre.
Better, more varied and more quantity of music than Episode VII.
Snoke to be more "real", more menacing, a reason for his existance and his motivations to be explained.
To be an original story.

Don't Want:
Not to be a soft reboot of The Empire Strikes Back.
Snow planets.
Imperial/First Order probe droids.
BB-8 stealing R2-D2's screen time again.
Tie-ins, such as "Buy and read this comic book for exclusive explanation of C-3PO's red arm".
Not to keep using tired and cliché lines such as "I got a bad feeling about this" too often, (Only one per film please!).
"Mary-Sue" type characters.

 

You misunderstand: I'm pointing the finger at the directors of the ST when I say that. She can act; that is not in question. The question is will they let her.

 

You're right. Like the directing in the PT.

 

Since I liked the most of the new narrative turns led by Abrams, I just want Ep.8 to continue in this way of rewriting the I-VI saga, keeping a foot in the past, and one in the future. In the case, I want:

- A psychologically tried Luke, who must be convinced to return and accept his faults. A more human and less "heroic" Jedi Master;
- Rey's training, or at least a very special relation with Luke;
- Kylo's relation with Snoke, and Snoke himself, caught in his planet/flagship/wathever, but a real Snoke in a real throne;
- The Knights of Ren;
- Vader's tomb, and explanation of how Kylo got his grandfather's mask (a sacked tomb explored by Luke and Rey would be great);
- Other loads of Millennium Falcon flying, but also other ships and a major space battle.
- A major duel between Luke and Kylo, and a second round between Rey and Kylo.

 

Here's a possible disappointment: last night John Williams conducted the Philadelphia Orchestra and by way of introducing Rey's Theme said he "told producers that I don't want to score the next one..." He went on to say, though, that he loves Daisy so much he doesn't want anyone else to score for her, or something to that effect. So who knows. I do know he was supposed to conduct the entire evening but had to cut back the amount of time he was on stage, presumably due to his age.

 

I would like to see/ have explained:
1: Rey backstory
2: have a good reason for Luke being at the first Jedi temple
3: Rey building a lightsaber
4: more Jedi
5: Leia finally training to be a Jedi
I would hate to see:
1: more Death Stars/ star killers
2: any of the main ot characters being killed
3: jar jar binks

 

Would love to see:

1. Some clever interaction between Maz and Yoda, setting up a Yoda based spinoff movie.
2. Finding out that Han knew who Rey was all along.
3. Leia having an epic force moment. - (maybe better suited for IX)
4. Yoda's guidance being the catalyst to have Luke search for the first Jedi Temple.
5. Snoke to be more brutal than anyone expects.
6. A dark side resurrection of a main character in a critical plot point. (similar to what Palp suggested his mentor figured out how to do.)
7. Chewie rips off Kylo Ren's arm and beats his a$$ to bloody death with it.

 

In my Oppinion SW Episode VIII should deliver:

- Luke kicking a+++ big time, using lightsabre and force tricks on all kinds of FO guys, or even his powers to destroy spaceships
- Great and amazing space fighter battles with X-Wings, B-Wings, Tie Fighters and some new cool fighters
- More Knights of Ren, several of them fighting against master Luke Skywalker
- Reveal the backstory on Supreme Leader Snoke (no more Plagueis Lives)
- Establish the origin of Rey
- Bounty Hunters tracking and fighting the good guys
- A nice Darth Vader flashback scene where he kills someone really important

What we don't need to see in SW Episode VIII:

- Force Ghosts, Clones and Force Generated Childs
- No more Super Weapons
- Captain Phasma standing around
- R2 Miraculous awake

 

Forgot to mention: would they mention "gundarks" this time?

 

Maz should have been Ahsoka... that was my disappointment with TFA.

episode 8 disappointment, cheesy title, Luke not doing much again.....

 

Honestly I wish they would just skip over Maz entirely. That type of character is over used in the Star Wars universe, in fact that entire Maz's Castle scene was a little too much for me. The original saga already gave us three bars filled with various characters, we don't need any more. That's why I'm kind of excited to see some new sides of SW in VIII.

 

I think Maz will only serve as a backstory for the saber and nothing more. We find out where she is, she tells us how she got the saber, and that's that.

 

Pleasant surprise: Seeing Rey in a gold bikini!

Disappointment: Not seeing Rey in a gold bikini! (Political correctness makes everything boring!)

 

Would like to see:
1. Finn getting Anakin's lightsaber to keep or
2. Finn getting his own special lightsaber
3. Finn being more competent and putting his stormtrooper training to use
4. Finn discovering that he's force-sensitive
5. Finn getting to meet and have quality (can't think of a better word) time with Luke
6. Finn being an important part of the main plot
7. Rey taking some losses
8. Kylo Ren looking like a legitimate villain
9. More about Finn's backstory

Wouldn't like to or care to see:
1. Finn being reduced to a supporting character
2. Rey overshadowing everyone else
3. Finn/Poe relationship made into a romance
4. Luke's presence overshadowing everyone else
5. Finn looking like a comic-relief character
