    "It's Away!!!!"

Excited to see more shots of Luke but you know what got me the most thrilled? The music. The most un-Star Wars music style to date and tiny, tiny indicator on the new directors style, perhaps. It's only a few seconds but that says a lot to me. Backwards music on Star Wars? Whhaaaa?

Really excited to see where Rian takes this one.

I can't see us getting glimpses of footage already (looks like alternative takes on the end scene of TFA with a shot of Rian and the crew on the latest island visit for Ep 8) but it's a big indicator of things we will potentially see soon into the film, maybe. The opening crawl might need to work harder with providing info than in TFA maybe.

MSW did allude to Rian shooting some scenes for TFA but I can't see them releasing footage already on the day principle photography only began, even if they had some shots already in the can.

    You never know though.

Luke really does look like he's lost his marbles, even more so in that angle. May as well made him drool also : )

Really excited already. Roll on December 2017.

That is so fricking awesome! I'd rather now what happens right after episode VII than have this sort of two or three year gap. Perhaps we're actually getting to see Rey and Luke's first dialogue. I really need to visit that island again. I'm hyped.........already!

But Laura Dern. Now that's a surpise and a very good one! I love it.

What happened to the weather? I seem to remember an overcast/foggy day of sorts there.

Unless Rey is very powerful and force controls the weather in ep 8?

They can always change the tone of the sky in post production. They did on The Force Awakens, specify on Jakku.

It has begun! That video was such a cool way to begin production. It is interesting that they would choose that particular scene for this teaser though. Does it mean that Episode VIII will pick up here or is it something else?

One of the things I felt during the last scene in The Force Awakens and sensed again in this newer/alternate slow side-view is that there is such a sense of enormity conveyed here, especially in his eyes:

in that slow pan, left to right, the weight and enormity of the past, all the circumstances behind Luke Skywalker, have lead up to this moment converging with his knowledge and contemplation, the pull of the future and the fate of the Force itself all hanging in the balance.

And then the firm acceptance in this Jedi master's "most serious mind" of what must now begin here, with him and Rey, at this most crucial moment in the galaxy and the Jedi's history, to "make things right."

Even more powerful than all of this already pretty potent stuff is if he is actually looking at his daughter.

That could rank this potentially as one of the most emotionally-intense scenes in the saga, right up there with Han and Leia's Carbon Freezing Chamber stare and Han and Leia's last embrace.

Seeing Luke again, after such anticipation, promises all kinds of amazement.

    Go Luke!!!

Color timing/correcting is one of the later things I think they do and lock in so I wouldn't worry too much about the way the video looks.

If they really do this, begin where VII left off, I think that is very bold and exciting. I already thought TFA had more emotional depth and density than any of the other Star Wars movies, each movie had its emotional scenes, but VII had loads of them just like Empire. Continuing that trend would be awesome. Especially with this particular scene. Now that's a pay off. Now we have to wait two more years. You were talking about Carbon freezing. I'm considering it.

Wait, I just realized... if they started filming today, I doubt any of the Luke/Rey footage is from VIII. It's just outtakes from TFA shooting being used.

Rian Johnson filmed some of VIII on Skellig Michael back in September. That's what it is.

I wonder how much they filmed in Skellig Michael each visit. Did they film anything for VIII when they were filming VII's final scene, and were both JJ and Rian there, or just JJ... Also I wonder exactly how much they filmed for VIII on the island - will they go back? There was a rumor they found a stand in location for the islands which is more convenient for the crew.

Thank you, Ammianus Marcellinus. Yes, I think this brief scene handled either before the opening crawl or as a flashback later in the narrative could be amazing.

I'm imagining such a flashback scene on the beach:

At night, Rey sitting on some smooth rocks, watching the sea lit by twin moons. She recalls when she first met Luke. [insert flashback scene here]

The scene returns to the beach, Luke standing by Rey:

    Luke: What is it?

Rey: That day. How much I just wanted you to take it from me. Relieve me of it. Not just the lightsaber. The responsibility.

Luke: We cannot deny our destinies.

Rey: The weight of all those worlds looking to us now. I mean, of all people in the galaxy, why does it have to be me?

    Luke: I'll be with you.

Rey: It was so much easier being a scavenger. You searched, took what you could, and you just... lived. Mostly.

Luke: Oh, it's really no different now.

    Rey: Of course it is!

Luke: Only different in your mind. We live. We do what we must. And we accept.

Rey: But what if you're not there -- again? How will I know what to do?

Luke: The Force -- it's always there. It's here right now: around us, between the rocks, the waves, even between the sea and those moons. The Force speaks to us all the time. Listen, then decide.

Rey: Well, now I've decided to get some rest.

Luke: Good. Tomorrow you face a difficult test.

Rey: My whole life has been a test.

Well, just seeing "VIII" and Luke Skywalker from that brief new perspective might hold me over for a month or so, hopefully until the TFA DVD/Blu-ray comes out.

Then, that should get me to June, I think, in terms of anticipation, and from there, I'll fixate some more on Rogue One and indulge in some light spoilers until the first official teaser comes. And then the first official trailer.

The intensity of Star Wars anticipation itself is real. All of it.

Seriously considering the Carbon Freezing option myself now :)

    JediMasterRobert

(p.s. extra points to anyone who noticed the parallels with Yoda/Luke in TESB in the scene above.)

I would prefer not to have a pre-scroll scene but what could work is a trailer starting with scene.

That could be very interesting as well!

Lots of ways they could do this.

Just the thought of new footage like this soon on the way is inspiring.

I think I'll go listen to my TFA soundtrack for the hundredth time now...
