    This. Is. A. Great. Post.

I got the parallels. I really like the dialogue.

I enjoy reading that cause I can picture that in my mind. Especially on Rey's face when she's saying those things.

why the heck would Rey be on the Island for two or three years? Lets think outside the box people. Perhaps, this will be the first episode without a time jump, or it starts right after TFA ends and we jump to six months later and training of Kylo. I will assume a time just at a point in the film but probably not the beginning.

Thank you very much, Ulic_Korien. I am grateful you enjoyed this.

I'm feeling really inspired by all the possibilities with this new Sequel Trilogy!

I really care for Rey and hope she will get to learn whatever she can from Luke, and I hope Luke gets the chance to get past whatever failures he might feel responsible for (with the fall of his Jedi academy and the loss of Ben) by successfully imparting his wisdom and experience to Rey.

I believe Rey could help heal him (Luke somewhat as an injured Fisher King in this sense) so they can resume their quest.

Perhaps Luke might see some of himself in Rey and maybe even gain new perspective and confidence in her company.

It was reported by an Irish news outlet that what they filmed on Skellig Michael last September is the opening of the movie. (At least at the time, as changes and post-production could later change things.)

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0914/727811-skellig-michael/

This is what various other Irish press reported about the scenes filmed there for VII:

"An Irish industry source working at the location has hinted that the final scenes of the film could be shot on the island." July 2014. Status: TRUE

"Disney Lucasfilm shot some of the closing scenes for Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens last year on Skellig Michael." September 2015. Status: TRUE

Yeah. But this scenes.probably will be in the final cut. So they are the first images of ep. VIII. Some kind of teaser to me.

I like the laid-back "fan" way Rian is going about this .

I wouldn't be surprised if that the beginning of the video with the island is in the film.

Is the music in the first part of the video in reverse?? Does anyone know?

Interesting theory. What if they are actually there with Luke also in hiding.

This is how you could potentially still begin the movie at the end of TFA and still have a crawl. Remember, the journey to Achc-To was probably very long. It wasn't the 3 minutes like we saw on screen. Also, when Rey leaves to find Luke, it could have been weeks since her duel with Kylo. We just don't know. Lastly, Leia's outfit at the end of TFA is more fitting of a Chancellor or political leader than a General. Maybe she has been named Chancellor of the Republic and that was her outfit before she takes office? Or it could be her funeral outfit for Han. I could be reaching a bit, but you get my point.

Anyway, I'm no crawl writer but here's my idea....

Luke Skywalker is found! After a rousing victory
    for the Resistance,
    Princess Leia has dispatched
Rey, Chewbacca and R2-D2 to bring her brother
home and help her rebuild the devastated Republic
and train our new heroes in the ways of the Force.

As the crew of the Falcon traveled the long journey
    to Achc-To,
the home of the First Jedi Temple,
Supreme Leader Snoke and his apprentice Kylo Ren,
have set events into motion that will cause more
    turmoil for the weakened Republic.

Personally, I'd have no issue with the ideas that have been mentioned about and opening scene, then the Crawl, then the time jump. Either way, I just really want to see the conversation between Luke and Rey. That's the scene I want more than any other.

I agree with @MagnarTheGreat that this clip is from when Rian and crew went to Skellig last fall. It definitely does seem to indicate that VIII could start from where TFA leaves off. If that is the case then I don't think it will be the of the world. @techsteveo makes a good point about how we don't know how much time elapsed from when Starkiller was destroyed and when Rey lands on Ach-to.

SO -- I've been watching the detail closely. I do not believe this is the end of TFA or has necessarily picked up from the end of TFA.

FIRST: At the end of TFA, the planet is covered in a mist/fog and the skies are cloudy (no sun). But in this EP VIII film, there is no fog: there is a clear, partly cloudy sky with the sun shining.

SECOND: It could be a camera trick, but best I can tell from the ground, terrain, and camera angle: Rey and Luke are standing substantially closer to one another than at the end of TFA.

THIRD: Looking closely at the ground, the exact state of the grass and foliage are different... there are some variations. For example, there appear to be some small dandelion type flowers dotted through the grass that I don't see in TFA.

Yes, that's an extreme and ridiculous level of detail... but I'm going to take a wild stab at something:

Sure, it could be outtakes from TFA... but it doesn't have to be, considering that Rian Johnson is clearly there on Skellig Michael.
Sure, it could pick up where TFA left off... but that means Rey and Luke have been standing on the cliff for so long that the weather completely changed and some small flowers came into bloom.
Yet, it is very possible that we are, in fact, seeing EP. VIII footage, considering that they had already been doing some early shots on the island for Ep. VIII last year.

My guess, a very wild shot in the dark, is that if this is actually EP VIII, it could be a part of another dream/vision sequence, considering that the footage seems to have a very dreamy and ethereal ambiance to it. Perhaps a vision that Luke had of Rey finding him in his little corner of the universe? After all, Rey had a vision that pointed to Luke... Luke could have been having dreams and visions pointing to Rey. OR... maybe this is even someone else's vision of Luke and Rey...

I know that this is all bizarrely speculative, but the differences in this shot and the one at the end of TFA jumped out at me too easily. Anytime that happens I always ask, "what are they trying to tell me?"

    Come on!

They could've been staring at each other for 2-3 years making it still a time jump. Maybe they both got Jedi mind trick brain freeze or something.

Haha. Imagine that's Rey's training, a staring contest. Then when Luke breaks and Rey wins Luke reveals he's a hologram and is on another unknown planet.

    Lol...

So....do I talk first? Or do you talk first? ... is there a place I can sit down? My freaking legs are killing me since the hike from the Millennium Falcon...um...what's it going to take to get some food around here? .... you know you can chime into the conversation anytime, right? Well...?

Well, traditionally the movie begins with a space shot. What they can do is:
    a. Kylo Ren's shuttle goes to Snoke's planet with a lot of imperial ships so that you'll be able to see the scale of the first order war machine. You then get a short scene of a wounded Kylo Ren being taken off board and some dialogue ending with "the girl" something about Rey

    b. Then an immediate cut to Rey extending the sabre to Luke.

Nice! That could make for an amazing shot, and give the First Order some further definition, which I think they need after the Resistance victory.

I know they wouldn't use the Original Trilogy Imperial March theme music for that, but, as I imagined what you described, I could actually hear it playing...

I know quite something about musicology and what they can do quite easily is transform Kylo Ren's theme into an actual march. There is already one moment in the score when they already give a glimpse of Kylo Ren's theme as a march:

You can hear the motif being accompanied by some march-esque drum line from 1:29, but you really need to turn the sound up or put headphones up to hear it.

Maybe she's been with Luke for a few days/weeks. And he has refused to take the saber. So, one day she goes back up to where she first met Luke and tries to give it to him again?

I see what you mean. Or rather I should say hear :)

At the :16 mark of "Kylo Ren Arrives at the Battle" on The Force Awakens soundtrack there's some potential as well.

I also welcome any new music maestro John Williams might have for VIII and IX!
