and that's the thing, trailers aren't attached to movies anymore. If they aren't going to be released at an event like Celebration or Comic Con. They are released on Youtube, but also shown in theaters. Youtube is "the" big platform for trailers now.

RO's run in the cinema is almost done. Disney/Kennedy might gives us the title as gift right before SWC. If they gives up both b4 celebration those attending SWC are in for a treat! LOL

yeah i've mentioned this a few times now. it's the perfect combo. Trying to hide the title till celebration is a fools errand. People will find a t-shirt early and it will be plastered all over twitter 1/2 days before the event. Could you imagine sitting in the audience and reading on twitter that the title leaked before the panel? YIKES!

The trailer is obviously going to be at celebration (watch me be wrong :D). There is no rush, celebration is right around the time of the RO blu-ray and you make Celebration feel like that awesome event that took place for TFA.

100% this. There is no way they can keep the title under wraps until celebration.

if they can, then all kudos to them. To keep all those shirts, hats, merch under wraps for the big day, it would be one hell of an effort.

The Superbowl could be the place for a first teaser.

Imo we'll get the title with a small teaser before celebration.
I doubt it. Superbowl comercials are way too expensive for a movie which dosen't even need much marketing.

I expected a title to be released between the start of January and mid-February.

Yet the release of the title makes me think that it's certainly possible that we get one before Celebration. Let's not forget that we've had teaser trailers for both Rogue One and The Force Awakens before their respective Celebrations.

Agreed. Wasn't expecting this announcement in Jan. It's also 2 weeks before the super bowl. Could we be getting a small teaser?

It's not like we need one now, and it won't be cheap to have one at the Super Bowl. Then again, Disney made a deal for our beloved franchise for only $4 billion: if anyone can iron out a suitable deal (remember how many millions of views Monday Night Football had with that last TFA trailer?) it'll be Disney.

I can't see them dropping a teaser during the Super Bowl. Not because it doesn't make sense, but because it just doesn't need it. Star Wars is a cultural event, everyone is going to go see the films no matter how much they spend on advertisement. So why would Disney spend millions of dollars on 30 seconds of ad time they don't need to put butts in seats come December. To me, it's a no brainer, you save the first teaser till celebration, gifting the hardcore fans the first look at any "The Last Jedi" footage, then just dropping it on YouTube where it will break the internet no matter what.

Wouldn't be surprised if we got a teaser dropped in the small hours tonight or tomorrow. Didnt they do that with force awakens?

could you imagine how dull a TLJ Celebration panel would be with nothing new to reveal? Just rehashing previously releases from Jan-Feb. YIKES!
    --- Double Post Merged, Jan 24, 2017, Original Post Date: Jan 24, 2017 ---
Nah, TFA title was announced via a random SW tweet telling us principle photography ended. That was Nov 7th 2014.

The first teaser dropped Nov 28th 2014 but that was before we had multiple star wars movies and marketing. The full/proper teaser (teaser 2) was released at Celebration 2015.

For TLJ, Kennedy has said there will be "breathing room" between RO and TLJ, and we will know more in spring. Thus Celebration is basically nailed on for the full teaser release.

It has been said already, but there is no way Disney needs to spend Superb Owl size money to advertise Star Wars movies. They could announce a trailer release exclusively at Randy's Diner "somewhere" in the Yukon, and fans would fall all over themselves trying to buy plane tickets. Likely, me too. And Randy's might have some sweet pancakes, but they only have a 1988 RCA solid state TV. Floor Model. Because they were all floor models. Anyway, Disney is too smart to pay for something that the internet giveth for free.
