I had heard a rumor that the official teaser for EPIX might include snippets from all the previous Skywalker Saga Movies. Wasn't sure how well that would work in trying to sell EPIX but then Topher Grace et al put together a fan film / trailer called Star Wars Always (I posted it in the fan made content area)

    https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?threads/anthology-trailer-teaser.55916/

First of all I think the video is phenomenal, and excellently done and watching the footage you almost feel like you really have been on a journey for about 40 years that's about to come to an end. Watching the video I could see how it would work to leverage nostalgia to bring fans back all on the same page.

But having seen this one, could an official version from LFL top it? I'm honestly not sure. This one was so good, I'm not sure if I'd want to see another version (except maybe to include snippets from EPIX). Do you all have any thoughts on this?

Worked in Furious 7, why not in Star Wars?

I think it could work if they peppered in a few shots from previous films into the trailer but they would have to mesh well. I mean in terms of resolution and look. What I think would work the best is if they used sound cues from the old movies. This could be anything from dialogue to sound effects without the picture. In my opinion this would work the best and tug at the memories even more than visuals.

The Episode 3 teaser did that. I think it worked really well in a teaser... probably wouldn't work quite as well in the main trailer a several months down the line but works as an initial intro.

I wouldn't be surprised if the first teaser at least leaned on some visual or audio from the rest of the Saga. If they're really pushing this as the end of the Skywalker story, this seems like a great way to do it.

I love when trailers create hype without revealing much. My ideal IX teaser is mostly clips from the previous films, capped by one striking new shot to get us all speculating.

I agree they did use some snippets, but the one I linked from youtube, kind of feels like a different animal as it uses so much more. I think it would have been a great ideal to do (or maybe append it to the end of the EPIX). I love the clip that Topher et al put together but it feels like it steals some of the thunder if LFL was planning to do something similar. Maybe a behind the scenes anthology might work since LFL is bound to have access to footage that no one else does.

I don't love the idea on paper, but it could be all right in execution.

Maybe in another Force vision or something, and maybe extremely sparingly?

Or... maybe just audio, like in the WBW in Rebels season 4?

Like the idea for title reveal not for the Celebration Trailer. April should not be a teaser trailer. It should be full trailer.

Do we typically get full trailers around this time frame? (I'm asking because I genuinely don't know). I'd be alright with just a teaser at this point.

What about TFA, was it April also? I feel like TLJ's roll out was different (I could be wrong here, I just remember there being so many different teasers for TLJ compared to TFA)

TFA was also April, but the teaser was released the previous November.

It gets kinda messy because some people consider the TLJ Celebration trailer to be a "teaser" as well.

But personally, I tend to think a teaser is nothing more than a title reveal and maybe a shot or two. If we get something like 2017's Celebration TLJ reveal, I'll be plenty happy.

Didn't TFA use snippets during the Force flashback?

They certainly used audio clips, I'm not sure about real footage. Though I should have specified more clearly that I was referring to using old clips as part of a trailer teaser, not footage in the actual movie.

If it truly IS the end, then sure, it would work but it would need to use footage mainly from the prequels.

As @cawatrooper said it is a little confusing. I think technically the October trailers for the movies were considered the official trailers and the ones released prior at Celebration and other places were considered teasers. However, I think many of us view them as trailers.
