Obi-Wan Kenobi was always described as a limited series, a six-part event that would wrap it up for Ewan McGregor's time as the character. However, leading up to the series' release, Kathleen Kennedy and Ewan McGregor started toying around with the possibility of coming back for another season. While there is no official confirmation that a new season will happen, McGregor said recently that he thinks that, sooner or later, it will.

The actor was recently a guest on Celebrity Fan Fest, where he was asked about the possibility of Obi-Wan Kenobi coming back for a second season, to which he responded:

In addition to the show's lead actor, Ewan McGregor was also an executive producer on Obi-Wan Kenobi. If there was a green light on a second season, he would literally be the first to know. From what we could gather during the press tour for the series, it seems like the one person that is not convinced yet is director Deborah Chow (and to an extent, head writer Joby Harold). While Lucasfilm could move forward without either of them, apparently they haven't decided either way just yet.

The series was officially announced during the D23 Expo in 2019, when Kathleen Kennedy brought Ewan McGregor out on stage to ask him if he would play Obi-Wan again. Three years later, the Disney convention is coming back to Anaheim, though if Ewan McGregor is telling the truth here and there are no plans in place, it's unlikely that Lucasfilm will be repeating that moment. Lucasfilm will be hosting a panel with Marvel Studios on September 10, where we expect news about some of their upcoming projects, like The Acolyte or Indiana Jones 5.

Why? To see how many more characters can survive a lightsaber to the gut?

Cool. I'm all for it. The more I think about it, the more i want to see this Obi Wan going on adventures, meeting old and retired Jedi in hiding, and some proto rebels and getting into pre-GCW scrapes. No need for an overarching story. Just maximise each episode for its own thing. The arc is just Obi Wan being that guy we met in ANH. A guy who is somewhat at peace despite a sad backstory and ready to face his destiny when it comes.

Discovering the secrets of being one with the force and retaining ones identity is all well and good. But I doubt and sincerely hope it's not the case that Kenobi and Qui Gonn just spend the next ten years in the canyon zooming Yoda over the forcenet and stuff. Obi Wan's enlightenment is important. But so is Ben Kenobi having something cool to do.
