Benecio looks old as blast in Guardians of the Galaxy. Makeup could solve this, which I don't think looks that different either.

But do you really think they'd go through all that effort ?

That is my problem too: I cannot un-see now the similarities. But well, whatever he ends up playing hope it is a good character. Just saw "Sicario" and the guy can truly play characters with moral values dwelling in the grey...

If it was done well it could totally work. I'm on the fence though. However people citing the fact that Rebels is a kids show to argue that Ezra won't go dark doesn't work. TCW was a kids show and Anakin was the main character. Kids shows aren't devoid of tragedy. Jeez have any of you guys read the little prince?

Ezra must be in sequel trilogy anyway and any side of the conflict! That is one of the coolest things that will happen with new gen movies.
Disney are not idiots and of course they understand that introducing major characters from different stories to the main product gives more fanservice and then better rating to the film.

Assuming Luke was 23/24 in RoTJ and that TFA takes place 30 years after RoTJ, he should actually be 53/54 in Episode VIII. The problem is that, in real life, Mark Hamill is actually 64, which is 10 years older than his character was supposed to be. The problem then is Hamill's age mismatch, not so much Del Toro's.

Good point, very true. At the same time, I think if you put Benicio next to Mark, the age difference is still very visible.

One rumor out there is that Del Toro works for the New Republic. He might be a First Order sympathizer. If that's the case it's not likely it's Ezra unless he's hidden his identity for decades.

Think about how much effort just went into Carrie Fisher/Harrison Ford... or goes through any person with makeup. Don't think making him looking a little older is all that much.

Any Rebel character that is Force sensitive must Die, follow Palpatine/ Vader or go into Deep hidding. Problem is, Vader knows Ezra exists, he has to join him, run far away or die.

Droids was supposed to be a kid show too and it was scheduled to go darker in the second season. Being on Disney XD, plus with what Kanan has said in the teaser for season 3, Ezra could go darker, but personally, I don't know how the crossover from cartoon to movie would go.

What I really like about the inclusion of Rebels to the canon is that it meets what Obi-Wan said: "from a certain point of view". If we only see the six movies, we think that after Episode III all the Jedi, either masters, padawans or younglings are dead but Obi-Wan and Yoda. We think there are no more prospects to become Jedi by ANH other than Luke (or Leia, if we see the movies in numerical order). However, we learn that there were some that escaped the Order 66, either by leaving the Jedi order in time (as Ahsoka did) or by escaping the clones. And then we learn of all the possibilities.

Of course it is highly unlikely that either Kanan, Ezra or Ahsoka are alive by the time the Emperor and Vader die. But only the Sith deal with absolutes, so we might learn of them surviving afterwards or not at all. What I reckon is that uncertainty gives us a lot of ground for speculation, and it opens the door to a great deal of potential outcomes for our characters.

The only way these characters survive is if they disappear and walk away from it all before a New Hope. They're simply too important to the Rebellion to be around once Luke arrives on the scene. It's also highly unlikely they join forces with the Sith thanks to the rule of 2.

Agree. I can think of Ahsoka doing that since she has a lot of personal feelings invested there, due to Vader knowing her and her realising she would need to kill her old master - if indeed she survived Malachor.

Kanan is blind, but for a trained Jedi that should not be an impediment ("Your eyes can deceive you."). Ezra is not a Jedi yet, so that could be a way they can justify him still around by ANH. But then what? Do they just step aside to leave the Skywalkers and Solo run the show? I don't know. It will be really interesting to see how the Story Group thread all these loose ends.
