Hello all. Now that there is a Legends forum, I am thinking this would be a nice place to let everyone know what is your favorite material from the old EU.

I didn't read every book or comic and didn't play every game but of what I did involve myself in, I remember a lot of it was worthwhile material. Yes, there were some slow, boring books that I remember reading and one that I didn't finish (I, Jedi) and a series I skipped after reading the first book. There isn't a wrong opinion about your favorite b/c everyone's taste is different. So please, don't knock someone else's favorite because you didn't like it. :)

Maybe because it was the first Legends book I read, but I loved Tatooine's Ghost. Obviously, it is a Han/Leia book, and most of it focuses on Leia coming to terms with her Skywalker inheritance. When I compare it with the current canon, I think of it as "What Is and What Should Never Be". I don't think it is better or worse than the current canon treatment, it is an alternate scenario.

One of my favourite quotes from the book is one that Luke tells Leia:

"Darth Vader isn't the one you need to make peace with. The Force is with you, and nothing you do can change that. (...) If you're not careful, your fear and anger will only make you into what you despise."

    (Canon or not, basically true.)

Also because it shows Leia being aware of her grandmother Shmi from a journal she ends up with from her visit in Tatooine. On it, she is aware of her grandmother's love about her son Anakin.

I didn't read too much of the EU but I have to admit that the Thrawn trilogy have some great characters, the reading is too long and most.of the time a little boring. Thrawn is such a great character that I am glad that he is now canon.

I enjoyed reading Kenobi. Good doses of.action and the attempts of Obi-Wan trying to contact Qui-Gon worth the reading.

The Cristal Star was odd but I read so many years ago that I can't remmember how it is.

Probably the.reading that I.liked the most was the comic series The Dark Empire.

So far, I have to say Heir to the Empire is my favorite. Reading tons of Legends at the moment so this might change.

I loved Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy and Daley's as well. Those books that came out before the take over Razor's Edge and Honor Among Thieves were good as well. Heir of the Jedi was actually part of the same trio, but it got in under the wire. I love a lot of the old comics, I probably have read most of them, and really like those a lot. The one from the 70s and 80s got silly, but there is a lot of fun stuff there. Shadow of the Empire was really good. Oh yeah, Kenobi was great. I hope they make a new one of the new canon.

I have to say, if you haven't read the little comic, Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction, I suggest reading it. It's not very long and it has some great 90s pencil work. It's also a very nice little story set after ROTJ and it actually gives the Fett some depth to his character.

Game wise I'd go for the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series - absolutely loved those. It's been a while since I read any of the novels, but I'd probably opt for Shadows of the Empire.

The Thrawn Trilogy will always be my favorite, with Heir being my top pick of the three. And I've always been fond of the old Marvel comic books series. They're kind of silly and cartoonish, almost like Saturday Morning version of Star Wars, but they're fun to read and I'm not really even a comic book person. In fact, a comic book adaptation of the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me and the Marvel Star Wars series are the only comic books I recall ever actually reading. But I've read through the Marvel series several times over the years. I particularly enjoy the period between ANH and ESB, I liked the storylines with Crimson Jack, Han's gang from Aduba-3, The Hunter, the Tagge family, etc.

I think that the Thrawn Trilogy is one of the best things to ever come out of the EU. I so far have read the trilogy twice. Loved it both times. I've read so many out of the Legends like including the Jedi Academy Trilogy, Truce at Bakura, most of the Yuuzhan Long series (I stopped a few books short, lost interest), Shadows of the Empire, Rogue Squadron series, there are more but can't think of them right now.

If y'all have not read the Rogue Squadron series, then seriously consider adding it to your list of SW material! You won't regret it

I'm so bad at reading books. But I'm trying to get into the old EU novels now. I've picked up a ton of them from thrift stores over the past couple years. I think I have almost all of the TNJO books and I just picked up the Thrawn trilogy. Have a bunch of other ones here and there. As far as my favorite game though it's Jedi Outcast. Kind of obvious considering my avatar. Weirdly enough didn't read any of the old comics. Been reading all the new canon comics though.

Let me cover my bases by making a blanket statement - I love pretty much everything written by Timothy Zahn or James Luceno. But to narrow it down, I have to say that Heir to the Empire is my all-time favorite, and Zahn's Choices of One is probably next in line (I love me some Mara Jade).

As for comics, The Knights of the Old Republic series is my #1 favorite, and I'd put the Mara Jade: By The Emperor's Hand mini-series in the #2 spot here.

Shadows of the Empire (N64) is my favorite Star Wars game ever as it was my entry into Star Wars gaming (and what an entry it was). Knights of the Old Republic and Battlefront 2 are tied for the #2 spot, and Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader (GC) and The Force Unleashed are also worth mentioning.

As for my least favorites...The Crystal Star by Vonda N. McIntyre and the The Callista Trilogy by Barbara Hambly and Kevin J. Anderson are just awful in my opinion. McIntyre just didn't get the characters at all (especially Luke) and The Callista Trilogy is just too weird for me. And the EU trend of Luke falling in love with a new girl in every subsequent book, only for it to not work out, got really old. The canon novel Heir to the Jedi continued this trend. Probably one of the reasons why it is one of the only canon novels I actually hate.

I was always a sucker for the short stories books... Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina, Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales from Jabba's Palace, etc. I missed a lot of the early to mid Legends stuff, but picked it back up with the Legacy of the Force series, which I loved. And the ensuing Fate of the Jedi series. I'm not sure if it was those series that made me fall in love with the final book of the Legends timeline, Crucible, but I thought it was an incredible read. Especially because it was centered around "The Big Three"... it was almost like one last hoorah, before the re-boot happened. It is a very nice "end" to the Legends timeline.

I'll have to check those out. I didn't know if they were any good but I enjoy short stories, they're to the point and don't spend half a page describing the color of somebody's hair. I've always been more of a sucker for the short stories of Stephen King and the Sherlock Holmes short stories than the full length novels. But off the top of my head I can't recall ever reading a Star Wars short story.
