And please, everybody, point me to a pre-existing thread if it's out there —

    my favorite personal transport is:

I've read arguments about its being cramped and unlivable inside. These are contradicted by Dorling Kindersley cutaways. All she needs is a slight remodel — eighty-six the royal accoutrements and you've got a fairly spacious and elegant star hopper.

When I was a kid I used to love the naboo star fighter...now, I'm more of a classic x wing guy. Its like new Ferrari vs. Late 60s early 70s Mustang though isn't it?

Yes! A classic. Complete with a complement of dropships and powerloaders. Excellent choice. I'm sure James Cameron and Syd Mead had no idea they were defining the look of "the military in space" for three decades and counting.

My own choice from the Alien series: the little pirate scow from (I know, sacrilege) Resurrection. Called the Betty. Also the original lifeboat, the Narcissus.

Not sure if many know this, but Dark Horse Comics did a lot of EU work themselves, for the Aliens series. I managed to get a few U.K. versions of their works, complete with schematics and back-stories for the weapons and tech--and colony information.

The Betty was a cool ship, for what was, I must say, a very mixed film. You picked up why I'd want the Sulaco, though--it includes the Dropships, APC's. and can carry a good amount of soldiers/crew. Above Star Wars, Aliens is my favorite film. Along with Star Wars, the Alien series has Fed and Bred a lot of he past 30 years of sci-fi. Halo being the prime benefactor. Also, Starcraft, and Starship Troopers. District 9... the look of Aliens has been in a lot of films. I'l leave it at that.

As for a personal ship--if I had to have something I could fly myself, that's harder.... will have to think.

The Gunstar was definitely a cool ass ship. I've heard off and on rumours of a reboot or remake, but nothing solid.

I don't think I've seen battle beyond the stars. Will have to look that one up.

I've never seen anything but the poster for Battle Beyond the Stars. I do know James Cameron designed that ship — he talked about adding the boobs.

The Gunstar is a Ron Cobb classic all the way. "Death Blossom"!!! We know he came up with some of the cantina creatures. I'd love to see him take a crack at Star Wars hardware and ship concepts. Alternate universe: The Art of Star Wars by Ron Cobb and Syd Mead.

    A smaller ship I like a lot —

The Executor! Remember when it started casting its shadow on all the "tiny" SDs? That was awesome...then it got taken out one A-wing.

Two larger scale transports. First, the Valkyrie trans-atmospheric vehicles (referred to as "shuttles") from Avatar. Designed by Star Wars alum Ryan Church.

And the larger USCSS Prometheus, originally the USCSS Magellan, designed by Steve Burg and Ben Procter. I initially thought this ship owed too much, structurally, to Whedon's Serenity. Ultimately Prometheus is a superior configuration.

Prometheus. Beautiful multi billion dollar ship. Manned by the worst crew in the known universe.
