Just wondering what some of your favorite sci fi movies besides Star Wars are. I personally Love a lot of Scifi movies, but my favorite non SW one is Blade Runner. I grew up with this movie but I can watch it over and over again the dialogue the acting, the amazing sets. Everything is just so capturing in this movie

That's tough. Outside of that list, I love the Planet of the Apes movies. The Original, Rise, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes are some of my absolute favorites. I have a soft spot for Guardians of the Galaxy too. But out of the list, I'm voting for Aliens. Never before had a film got my heart racing so fast!

Terminator & T2. I am a huge fan of James Cameron's movies, because he tries his best to flesh out his characters when many movies in this genre don't as much. I also love The Abyss Directors Cut too as that is very underrated among the critics and fans.

SO many good choices. And so many not even listed.

I voted for 2001, just because I’m a huge Kubrick fan. But Aliens was close.

As for some great ones not listed here:

    Children of Men
    12 Monkeys
    Dark City
    Wall-E

I’m sure there are more I’m missing...

I love the first two Terminator flicks, but the quality has gone downhill from there once Cameron's involvement disappeared, hence why I didn't vote for that one. Though the same argument could be made for the Alien series once Cameron and Ridley left that too.

How do you guys feel about Prometheus?

I liked Prometheus but I see it as it's own movie, I think Ridley Scott intended it to only be associated with the original Alien. I remember the scene in theaters were the main character had to preform surgery on herself was gut wrenching.

Yeah it def. made me squirm in my seat. I enjoy Dark City too, the only reason it's underrated is because it came out around the same time as The Matrix

Prometheus had some great aspects to it, That surgery scene as mentioned, Fassbender, the general tone of the movie. But in the end, there wasn't much about it as a whole that makes it feel equal to any of the Alien films. Even 3&4 which had significant flaws were unique and memorable. Most of Prometheus was forgotten as soon as I left the theater.

I do hope they make another though. There is potential there.

I hate to ask this but how can you not put Star Trek as an option on there? Not voting for it but the societal impact has to be seen.

True but I like Star Trek better as a tv series than as separate films.

My favorite SciFi films are in order.
2001 A space Odyssey- the music and the amazing effects for its time was spectacular.
Alien- creature coming out of John Hurt's stomach, classic.
Dark City-one of the most brilliant Sci Fi movies ever made.
My dark horse is Serenity- Fillion is his amazing self. Summer kicks reaper ass and looks good doing it and Chweltej is a truly great villain.
Honorable Mention to Star Trek Wrath of Khan-Spock sacrifices himself and Shatner's KHAN!!!!
My new favorites are the two Abrams Star Trek movies and Guardians of the Galaxy.

I always thought that the Star Trek TV series was what defined it, I actually like star trek but I don't think the movies do justice to feeling of exploration the series had. The only one I think that I should have put on there is Wrath of Khan, I do like the ending of the first movie but watching a ship docking in space in actual time is not exciting it almost ruins the movie. But once again the TV series has always been the strong point of that franchise

The underrated John Carter which was put out by Disney a few years back.

5th element is underrated and forgotten too easily. Its not a great movie by any stretch, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun.
