This episode of me moderatin' blast is brought to you by Scruff McGruff!

I get you were trying to be helpful, @Grand Master Galen Marek, but keep in mind that people make a living off of these movies. This film hasn't even been put on DVD/Blu-Ray yet.

(On another note, I've been lax as far as links to Rebels episodes go, due to distribution issues and operating on the admittedly naïve assumption that people will pay for the official release. Once the show becomes widely available on DVD, I'm cracking down on them.)

Anyone read the book that PotA was based on? 2 Astronauts were in space traveling and they see an explosion I think or they find a time capsule of what happened with the crew and it turns out the travelers were apes themselves! It kinda brings around the remake of PotA where Marky Mark goes back to earth and everyone on earth were apes, hence the space travelers were apes in the book

Good god, I disliked the book Planet of the Apes. Read it for the first time a couple months ago. The book had interesting ideas but I wasn't a fan of how they played out. Same goes with Logan's Run: better movie. But yes, you can totally see that the Tim Burton one was inspired by some of the forgotten elements of the book.

As for my favorite Sci-FI, I do enjoy Planet of the Apes, Alien, Terminator... Someone mentioned Dark City, and I own it but haven't watched it yet.

I voted for Close Encounters of the Third Kind but Aliens would have been a close second. And, while it's arguably more of a fantasy film than hardcore science fiction, my favorite science fiction film outside the Star Wars saga (also space fantasy) and, for that matter, my favorite overall movie outside the Star Wars films is E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial! It is a true classic and sort of a little brother to Spielberg's other film, CE3K.

    No Forbidden Planet!?

Definitely my favorite. 2001 comes closest though, as far as what is on the list.

It really surprised me, even as a Star Trek fan, to see a film ten years older, yet with effects that blew away Star Trek. The fact that, even that long ago, when sci-fi was still so under-developed, they put it in all that backstory about this fictional alien race and culture? I find it fascinating, and refreshing, and the soundtrack is very original, and appropriate to the film.
