I'd say my favorite would have to be Anakin Skywalker, also known as Darth Vader. If you look past his, well, youth in Episode I, past his whiny phase in Episode II, and some of his stale delivery in Episode III, he is one of the most developed characters in all of Star Wars. (TCW, various Legends books, and Marvel's Darth Vader comic certainly helped with this.)

From childhood, Anakin was always selfless and wanted for him, his mother, and all the slaves to have a better life. He wanted to help people and see all of the planets and stars. And some of that dream was going to come true once Qui-Gon came into his life. But it came at a cost, he had to leave his mother. He falls in love with Padme early on, as she is the one of the few (non-Jedi) people to care for him and show compassion towards him. But he has to leave her too, because the Jedi prohibits these attachments. Palpatine starts planting seeds of arrogance in the boy and he becomes too full of himself, which will be his downfall. After taking his first steps towards the Dark Side, he becomes moody and becomes more and more disillusioned with the Jedi as the Clone War progresses. By the time he starts having nightmares about his wife, he becomes desperate to do anything to save her, as she is one of two people he fully trusts. Once Mace Windu tries to kill the other, Anakin learns that the Jedi are no better than the Sith. He commits atrocities to save the one he cares about and once she's gone, he's lost everything. He enforces the Emperor's rule, because that is all he has left. That, and the chance to become more and more powerful.

    It's obvious:

Powerful, wise, with good sense of humor, brave, selfless, war hero and a mentor. And showed young Vader his place.

Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, by far. The most relatable character in the entire franchise for me. Such a good person, but his emotions continually get the better of him. His anger, pain, and self-loathing destroy everything that matters to him, but it also gives him great strength. Although, I will say that if they play these next two films correctly Kylo Ren could sneak his way into that top spot for me.

Han Solo has always been my favourite character however Obi-Wan is a close second. That isn't something I would have said before the Prequel Trilogy, not that I didn't think Obi-Wan was a good character in the OT but Ewen McGregor's Obi-Wan was awesome.

Here's hoping for an Obi-Wan film!

Jacen Solo/Legends. The story of his life, the events and experiences he goes through, and his becoming Darth Caedus are very interesting. Especially the events of the Legacy novels. Betrayal is so good. And Jacen Solo is awesome in it. Too bad he falls for the Skywalker curse and believes darkness brings peace.
I also love Revan becasue he's amazing. But let's face it, everyone loves Revan so it's not an exciting response. My ferret loved him so much that he chose to become Darth Revan.

Rey from Knowhere for me. She is my favorite Star Wars character for a number of reasons. She is a good character that struggles with things other than "the pull of da DARK SIDE" She is lonely, abandoned, and has low self worth. Which are pretty intriguing character traits. She is a hero not because her dad was one but because she as Snoke so eloquently put "has the spirit of a true Jedi"

"The theme of being thrown away is a powerful one for Rey, and the point isn’t simply a coincidence — it’s a pretty simple metaphor for her character arc in The Force Awakens. She is a scavenger, literally scouring thorough garbage in order to find the things of value it might contain. The things that were thrown away or left behind by people, but that can ultimately still can serve a purpose somehow. Rey believes herself to be a discarded thing of little worth, but as The Force Awakens shows, the opposite is true. She’s one of the valuable objects — a diamond in the rough. She’s powerful in the force and has a variety of skills, yes, but more importantly, she’s a kind and compassionate person who can be a force (ugh, really, no pun intended) for good in the universe…if she only can gain the willpower to push forward with her life and take control of her own destiny."-Mathew Legarreta

This is a very difficult question....I just kept it simple and went with why I am a SW fan - A New Hope, 1977, 12 yr old kid blown away in the theater. My favorite character was and always will be Luke Skywalker. The quintessential hero arc, young kid on a farm in the middle of nowhere turns into the mightiest, wisest Master Jedi the GFFA had ever seen.

Palpatine. Thought he was cool before the prequels but damn, if the prequels did anything right, it was his ascension to power. And of course Ian McDiarmid just kills it.
