Okay, maybe this is a long stretch but the ending of TLJ made me think this:

    Luke's words to Kylo:
'The war has just begun.' We see a shot of Finn ....hinting that he will be a major player in the forthcoming conflict, maybe inspiring other stormtroopers to rise up against the FO.
'The Resistance is reborn tonight.' We see a shot of Poe with Leia in the background, foreshadowing him becoming the new leader of the Resistance, perhaps?

Then we see Rey of course, as The Last Jedi.

Kylo is shown at the end, kneeling, face desolate, anger burned away and realising power is a lonely throne. And Hux....watching him like a predator smelling blood. His whole demeanour was anticipatory; he was going to bide his time and wait for Kylo to slip up.

As a result it was a shock to the system for yours truly that NONE of these things happened in TROS. Apart from General Poe but that was not until the very last minute, so we didn't really get to see what kind of leader Poe would have been.

TLJ left so many fascinating possibilities and they were never explored, which saddened me a lot.

Luke's parting words to Kylo were 'see you around kid'. But they never met again.
Hux never did find out that Kylo killed Snoke. I would have loved it if he did, and forced Kylo out as leader. Let's face it, he made a point of telling Kylo that the armies were 'his'.
Rose acting as the conscience of the group, post her words to Finn at the end of TLJ.
The Resistance, especially Finn and Poe, never did find out Rey had willingly gone to Kylo on the Supremacy. Now that would have made an interesting conversation!

Probably because Rey is the hero protagonist it's her story. She's the anchor of the story not Kylo. Why should she go off with Kylo and not stay with her friends. Rey told Finn about her visions un TROS, Finn told her he was a Skywalker. I doubt it would have caused much tension. She saw Finn turn, she thought Kylo would do the same. Yep it's dumb but Rian wrote Rey as dumb anyway. Thank God he never wrote for her again.

TFA because Rey is so intriguing, Han and Chewie are back in the saddle, and that confused Stormtrooper had allot of spunk for challenging an emo Dark sider.

I know this sounds crazy but I actually like TROS the best. ROTJ just might be my favorite Star Wars movie, and some aspects of TROS might be more compelling. The lightsaber duel in ROTJ seems irrelevant seeing they were all going to die anyway regardless of the outcome. Reys decision to either join the Emperor or watch her friends die was more direct. Granted if she was possessed by Palpatine then they would all die anyway, but I think the temptation was greater. Why would Luke join the Darkside? If Luke killed the Emperor in anger would he be possessed by Palpatine?
Also I like Babu Frik, hes awesome. He-heeeyy!

I like TLJ, mainly because they tried to something different and it requires you to think a little. My biggest turn off was the failed attempts at humor. It was cringy. Tros on the other hand had me rolling in the theater. C3po was the comic relief throughout. When he said babu frik he's my oldest friend. I laughed so hard then five minutes later when the movie got dull, i thought about it again and randomly started laughing again.
Tfa was alright, maybe too derivative, and I have some not so fond memories associated with it.

You know, a lot of fellow Kylo fans like me have pretended TROS doesn't exist and the story ended with TLJ....I wish I could!!:D

I don't really have a favorite ST movie. But I can say that I dislike "The Force Awakens" a lot less than I do the other two films.

I liked the TFA the best of the three by far (not saying much.) But I think the problem with it was its lack of originality and inspiration.

It was clear from the start that the idea was to recycle ANH and 'pass the torch' to a new generation of SW heroes. Instead of saying "What compellinig story do we want to tell that will enhance the GFFA?", the Powers-that-Be asked themselves: Who is our new Luke? Who will be our new Darth Vader and his minions? Who will be our new cute droid? How can we keep the formula the same? What can be our bigger and better Deathstar?

Say what you will about Favreau and Filoni, you've got to admit they went into their collaboration with a keen understanding of George Lucas and the influences that inspired him. IMHO, you can't say the same about JJ or Rian.

I love TLJ. I liked that Johnson tried to show shades of grey in there. Luke wasn't 'King Arthur', but a good man who made mistakes. Kylo was not the monster he claimed to be, his self loathing after killing his father proved that. Rey was not a 'Mary Sue' but an impulsive young woman who had a tendency to darkness as well as light. The Resistance weren't saints, they bought weapons from the same people as their enemies, and 'likeable flyboy' Poe saw nothing wrong in letting half his squad die if it was glorious. Meanwhile Finn found a new role other than Rey's sidekick.

I was heartbroken with how TROS practically retconned everything.

I was heartbroken with how TLF practically retconned everything the first film set up.

That's what happens when a trilogy gets straddled with dueling directors.
