If you listened to Debra Chow talk about the show, you'd be reassured that Obi-Wan is The Focus.

She's said in interviews that the show is all about getting Obi-Wan's character from Point A (where he's still freaked out by what's happened to 1) the Republic; 2) the Jedi; and 3) his friend, Anakin) to Point B (where he becomes the calm and wise Zen Master we'll see in ANH.) THAT should make this a fun journey. The only question in my mind is how well she executes it. But Chow has already shown she can direct a great, action-packed episode of SW TV (Mando S1:E3 The Sin) so I'm confident this whole series is going to be pretty darn good.

Rewatching the PTs in preparation for Friday's premeir has reminded me again of what makes Star Wars special for fans. Although the franchise has had an up-and-down history, the good stuff is SO GOOD that it tends to have us all gloss over the not-so-good stuff.

My concern was, and still is, that Obi-Wan will be overshadowed by other characters and/or disrespected in some way. For example like failing to protect Luke Skywalker while someone else steps in to save the day. It's totally fine to make characters fail at things, which is part of creating a good character arc, but then you have to make that same character suceed in the end.

On a side note, it's always fun to see members mob up and give 10+ negative ratings to posts that mention Kathleen Kennedy. I get that some people might be tired of hearing that over and over again, but seriously? I don't get how you can be so butthurt by a harmless post.

There have been a lot of internet gaslighters who have made money feeding off of fan hatred for KK. It’s gotten to the point of being ridiculous. The over-the-top internet vitriol surrounding KK has taken on a life of its own. But that shouldn’t overshadow the reason for the hate in the first place. George Lucas — and thus, the fans — trusted her with protecting the franchise from being screwed up — and she failed him and us.

Thank God for Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. And now, Debra Chow! :)

My concern is not listed. It is the score for this series. As of now I could not tell you what the theme or score of this series is….which makes me sad.

This post has me imagining some Catholic priest back in the day frowning up at a new fresco by Michelangelo of the Crucifixion of Saint Peter and saying, "Hey, his ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was good but THIS??? I don't get it....and it makes me sad." :) :) :)

    I'm very good.

Third Sister could show another gear or some form of nuance but that is close to bonus territory than active concern.

    Otherwise sitting pretty.

However you want to slice and dice it, any score that features a new composition from the legendary composer, John Williams (Obi-wan's theme) is going to be very special.

That may be. However, for me, so far, it is not very special. I am hoping it improves.

I kinda have to agree with you. The score is more of a background "noise", nothing really special so far. But I have to say I got chills during this scene:

A perfect combination of imagery and music.

Until it turns out to not be quite memorable enough yet and we're already two episodes in. Definitely not as memorable as the Mando or Boba Fett themes.

I will agree that that composer, Ludwig Goransson, hit 'home runs' with his Mandalorian and Boba Fett themes. He's just entering his prime (37) so it's exciting to imagine what more he'll add to our Star Wars memory soundtrack in the future.

But that said, I've enjoyed the score for Obi-wan Kenobi by Natalie Holt (who scored Loki) and a number of the online reactors that I watch have given props to the show's music too. To be fair to both the 'yay' and the 'nay' sides, I've always found soundtracks to 'grow on me' over time. For example, I enjoyed the Mandalorian theme from my very first viewing of Episode 1. But over time, I grew to love it to the point where those lonely horns playing at the start give me goosebumps. :)

Obi-wan's Theme might not turn out to be John Williams' greatest composition (he's 90 now) but trust me, the man will go down in history as one of the world's all-time great composers.

I voted "too much plot, not enough time" but it's more of a fear that the story will waste the time it has on frivolous things. Now, I love my long, winding, epic journeys, but I also want the story to be focused in its exploration and flare. I don't want to feel like my time was wasted in episodes leading up to The Big Event. I want to savor the journey as much as the destination.

I'm also worried about the characters. I'm worried that Reva will just be used to bring Kenobi to Vader, and she'll be thrown away at the end because her purpose was served. I'm worried that Leia, as precocious and fun as she is, will distract us from a story that really isn't about her. (Her presence also makes me mad at how dirty the ST did her.)

The only time I can recall when another major Star Wars character came close to overshadowing the main character was Din Djarin's standalone appearances in two episodes of "The Book of Boba Fett". I didn't care for that one bit.

I can't remember anything of the score, but I don't remember if there even was one. So in my case that is a good thing. A score that you don't recognize and just blends in (and not annoys you) is a good thing in my eyes/ears. For me it's a bad score if it is always in the foreground, distracts and always calls: "Here I am".

But of course it can be both like it was for LotR or the OT or a lot more...

The score is 100% the biggest weakness of the series for me.

Synthetic horns with no real imagination to the melodies, in a scene between Obi Wan and Vader? Major problem.. and a real insult to John Williams' contribution to the main theme.

I guess the to concerns I always have for tv shows is they rarely have enough plot to fill the run time and you normally get filler episodes This is something we defiantly saw in Boba Fett. I also got that feeling a bit in episode 3 of this series. Vader just letting Kenobi go for no reason other than it's not the finalize of the series yet, Leia getting captured again for the second time in 3 episodes.
Also Budget, a star wars film you will get a battle between hundreds of spaceships, in a tv show you maybe get 2 or 3. While budget isn't everything when your telling a story in a galaxy far away, with space wizards, space ships, advanced technologies and all kinds of exotic planets budget plays a huge part. I've definitely felt budget constraints in Kenobi in terms of sets and locations.

In fairness the studio listened to the fans, the sonic fans loved the change and the film and sequel have both been hugely successful. Definitely a case where listening to the fans was the right thing to do.

Haven't seen it, and as I don't plan on getting Disney + I doubt if I will.....but I loved Ewan's Obi Wan, and I'm a huge Indira fan since GoT, the problem is TROS burned me pretty bad ...I just keep thinking of everything the Skywalkers endured because of Palpatine, and he came back and killed them off.:(

Poor matcatwoman17, I know you haven't seen any of the Obi-wan Kenobi episodes but ironically I find that you are in the exact, same situation poor Obi finds himself in at the beginning of his new show.

You are haunted by your tragic memories of the past. Like Obi-wan, it has paralyzed you and has made you hesitant to get your SW mojo back. Now is the time for you, like your hero Obi-wan, to put the past behind you aaaaaaand.....(cue trumpet-led Star Wars theme)....

GET DISNEY+ and SEE WHAT THE HECK YOU'VE BEEN MISSING!!!! May the Force Be With You!!! ;) :)
