Female Jedi appearing at Disney Parks

Discussion in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' started by Ganon136, Jun 4, 2015.

?

Does this mean Rey will be our lead character in TFA?

  1. Yes, she definitely is the lead character with all her publicity going on

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW! READ WITH CAUTION.

I had a friend on Facebook send me something I have not yet seen regarding the things leading up to TFA and I had to report on this one right away. According to those who have gone to Disney Parks, particularly Disneyland in this instance, female Jedi masters were spotted teaching the Jedi classes for young kids. With this major addition, could this mean that we can solidify Rey as a future Jedi and the main lead of the series or could you speculate still that she would be the lead, but Finn would have the Jedi powers and lightsaber training? If you would like to read the article and see for yourself: http://hellogiggles.com/first-female-jedi-masters-now-disneyland/

Post your comments below and tell me what you think this means for the future of the franchise.

I cant say yes or no to your question. in the past star wars has multiple story lines going on at the same time. so there really is no true lead. (although Luke was in the spot light a lot). not sure if i see a connection between female jedi at Disney and TFA either. There were loads of female Jedi in the past.

on another note, welcome to the cantina. :D

Thanks for the welcome. The part I found the weirdest though was that there were female Jedi in the prequels. It's part of SW history, but why would they bring them in a long time ago? The reason to that is that Disney did not have possession of the franchise and so this is their first opportunity to also bring them out. Just the timing of being about 6-7 months from the film and the publicity and buzz that generates, that may just be a dud or potentially what could be the biggest trilogy hint I have ever seen pointing at Rey. Only time will tell us!

I don't really think it means much. Only the general sense that we should get used to seeing women in a more active role in Star Wars. Long overdue.

We have seen female jedi's but non of them have been a significant character, in fact non even speak. To ignore female jedi's again in this trilogy would definitely make me feel a little bit sick.

I suppose I didn't consider your perspective. I agree that they should be showcased more often like they are in EU.

Like I said before, maybe I am reading in to it too much, but I'm surprised they didn't do this a year ago after Disney bought out Lucasfilm. It's a part of the job and publicity for the film. I think their main objective is to get females interested in the franchise first and let people formulate ideas to how that may fit into the bigger picture second.

I agree with your first proposal, that they are attempting integration of females into a main cast, but let's not forget that star wars has always had strong female characters from the beginning. Leia, and padme both knew how to kick ass, they just weren't Jedi.

i'd think they're just trying to get a Star Wars vibe into the theme parks, and what better way than to have mock Jedi classes? the PT goes enough into that whole scene to justify any installments in one of the parks.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

So I think this is just business move.

Last September they had a bunch of young girl Disney stars like Rowan Blanchard and Olivia Holt go to Lucasfilm and they played around with lighstabers for a photoshoot (for Star Wars Rebels promotion or something I don't recall the details) and ESPN's Michelle Beadle on a Star Wars-themed Halloween special did a skit with a lightsaber and dressed as Han Solo for Halloween (they also promoted a new clip of Star Wars Rebels on the show).

These female Jedi were leading when I took my kids to Disneyland in January (my son got picked and went up against Vader, which was AWESOME), so its not as though they just started. But perhaps they are saying they just started as the main lead. There is one speaking Jedi who narrates and gives the verbal instructions with a couple of other Jedi demonstrating for the class of kids. Thinking more about it, I may have the answer to the riddle of what happened to the male voice lead: He was also one of the stage characters at California Adventure for a Frozen attraction. He was doing double duty, so they probably had to train up the others in the Jedi show to help spell him... so it might not be a deliberate attempt to include more female Jedi at the park.

By the way, this was probably the coolest Star Wars moment I have ever had seeing my 4 year old son have a lightsaber "battle" with Darth Vader in the Jedi Training Academy at Disneyland.

I wonder why this is not being covered until now. Must be people trying to get us speculators into thinking more about the new series. Simply to Disney, it's just another theme park job.

Disney World in Florida has had female Jedi Masters teaching at the "Jedi Academy" for a few years now. Even before the sale of Lucasfilm. I think this is just Disneyland following suit.

Here is an example from last year.

i wouldn't worry about Rey, the lego details have confirmed she is the "lead hero", and as @MagnarTheGreat informed me on another thread, Kennedy has already said how "aware" they are to this issue. I am seriously pumped to see rey become a jedi. I can't wait.

I wouldn't say she is "the" lead hero, I don't see why both she and Finn can't be the lead heroes, or even Poe as well but so far he doesn't seem to be force sensitive so maybe he won't have so much focus as the other two.

i'm just going from the lego details, they must be calling it "lead hero craft" for a reason? You could be right though
