@Jack_Forest: i think the shocking truth of Luke and Leia's real father is what's really keeping the galaxy at war.
    dang those time holes.

Oh, come on, it's not JJ Abrams rehashes climaxes from previous movies...

we are not likely to see a giant space battle. JJ even in Star Trek, was always and has always been terrestrial. The battle in 7, when they used fighters was always against the backdrop of a planet. I think mostly the chosen time frame for production eliminates that. Jedi and its space battle took 3 years to make. Animation takes a long time. An animated feature film takes on average 3 years to make. So my guess is we will have a giant battle on a planet with fighters in the sky.

Kylo will die and thus will end the sky walkers. If they want to end the series where it began. Leia dies near the front of the film, they bury her at Naboo and the First order attack the funeral.

I wouldn't be so sure. Battle of Scarif was pretty epic and it took 1,5 years (with reshoots!) to make Rogue One.

Today you can animate a space battle very quickly. They probably already started to plan and produce the finale battle. 2 Years and some months are enough time to create something epic looking.

Isn't space much easier to animate than a planet background though? In space you have just darkness, but planets have life to animate too...

I would love to get a space battle in the IX, as I have always loved space battles. That said, I really liked the battle they did in Rebels that had walkers on land at the same time there was fighting in space. That was pretty cool (and, yes, I realized similar to both ROTJ and RO).

I kind of felt the entirety of TLJ was a space battle that just kept going. The one thing I get confused about is how Poe continued to be belittled, because if he didn't destroy the First Order dreadnaught, it likely would have easily picked off the Resistance after tracking them through hyperspace. After they were trapped, not one leader said, wow, I'm glad that FO dreadnaught is gone... Maybe I'm missing something, but that seems to be the case for me.

Or, after jumping out of hyperspace, a defenseless Dreadnought would get immediately bombarded and destroyed, as there wouldn't have been enough time to preapere TIE fighters to defend it. This would have also been a likely scenario.

PS. Besides, destroying a Dreadnought is cool and all, but the fleet chasing the Resistance was enormous nontheless and having ships with more offensive capabilities would've been quite nice.

I think it would be good idea to maybe have the final battle between the FO and the Rebellion at the beginning of the movie. With that out of the way, the rest of the movie would be all about more personal conflicts.
