NOTE: Ignorance is bliss. I have NOT read any of these comics or books. I have just read the reviews and spoilers. So bear with me if I am wrong and correct me.

For a long time, I've had a really negative opinion about the Journey to the Force Awakens material partly because I think a lot of stuff in these books is unrelated to the Force Awakens. I even think some things might be red herrings. For instance, I think that the Acolytes of the Beyond are not the Knights of Ren. However, with the release of this weeks comic I have noticed a serious pattern with some of what's been going on.

A lot of what has been shown over the past months have involved different groups trying to possess different objects - especially objects that are likely strong in the force.

The first object in mind (from Star Wars: Aftermath) was Vader's lightsaber the Acolytes of the Beyond tried to collect. I still do not know if the lightsaber obtained is Vader's (most likely not). Nevertheless, we see them obtain it.

The next person looking for artifacts was Sarco Plank in [IMG] The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure. He is looking for artifacts and tries to "help" Luke. Not I am not sure if he succeeds in getting any artifacts. So if someone lets me know, I will edit this.

We then see Lando finds a Sith Artifact
    [IMG]

In the final issue of Shattered Empire, we have these trees for the old Jedi Temple
    [IMG]

There is also a short story being written called, "The Crimson Corsair and the Treasure of Count Dooku".

Also we know Kylo Ren has Vader's helmet and we speculate he wants Luke's lightsaber.

While this one IS a stretch, Maz Kanata is a pirate and has a collection of these:
It is NOT a stretch to think she has other stuff of value - especially if our heroes go to her to find out about the lightsaber.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________

My question becomes WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN?

To be honest, I'm not quite sure. Perhaps the line from Kylo in the trailer, "I will finish what you started" was actually more literal than figurative and Vader was collecting artifacts. But I'm not sure.

Regardless, I figured it'd be appropriate and an interesting discussion. Ultimately, there has been a clear sighting of artifacts strong in the force from several different pieces of Star Wars content over leading up to this movie. It would be cool if all these items are housed in one room...and then in the credits this guy shows up :

I've heard the idea of Marvel and Star Wars crossing over and I, for one, HATE this idea. Star Wars doesn't need to be bolstered by another 'universe' - it is expansive and complex enough as it is. The same goes for Marvel.

It would probably be enough to cure me of my Star Wars fandom if we saw Marvel heroes fighting or fighting with Star Wars characters. Why not throw in Voldemort, Optimus Prime, Mario, and Gandalf in there for good measure?

That's not what I'm saying at all. Benico Del Toro is lined up for Episode VIII. So it was a joke :p

I'm just saying I notice a pattern in all of the collection of artifacts.

Yeah, I figured it was a joke...I'm just saying that it's one of the few things that would cause me to actually stop watching the movies.

They did buy it... the question is whether or not it was actually Vader's. All we know is that it's a red-bladed lightsaber, and the guy trying to make money basically advertises it by claiming it to have belonged to Darth Vader.

Personally, I think the odd's of it actually being the case are quite slim. Last we saw of Vader's red lightsaber, was it falling to the Death Star abyss, less than an hour before it blew up.

Yeah. That's seems logical. Still significant that they were after it though.

Pay a few bucks to learn about a character who has a ten second cameo... Thats the main message I take away from these books.

Treasure Hunting Kylo Ren was one of the oldest rumors in the book and it appears to be coming back around again, possible because it was right all along

I love this thread. It's long overdue. My two cents: collecting artifacts for the purpose of hoarding them isn't good enough of a reason for the act to exist in canon. There has to be more to it. 1) the AotB want to destroy Vader's saber so he can use it in the afterlife 2) the sith artifacts of the Lando comic seem innocuous at first 'til the guards are unmasked as being undead/zombies 3) the magic trees of Shattered Empire emit some kind of radiation that was important enough for Sidious to have studied in a lab.

The Story Group isn't going to introduce artifacts that "belong in a museum." There's a magic/metaphysical element to all of these happenings, and it's no coincidence that Kylo is shown to possess one Vader artifact and covet another.

Indeed tehre seems to be a heavy emphasis on artifacts and the power that the artifacts contain.

Overall the idea that things other than people can be strong in teh force seems to be an idea that is being pushed by the new canon, and I think that the reason for this is because they are trying to prepare peoples brains for the fact that Anakin Skywalkers lightsaber is a powerful dark side artifact.

One they need in order to activate the ancient sith superweapon...

but that is just my theory.

I've thought about this and came up with two theories:

    1) People are collecting the objects because they make them stronger in the force. When you see the glow around that tree, it made me wonder if Poe Dameron's mother, Shara Bey, actually becomes force sensitive because of her handling of the tree. It also makes me wonder if Poe is force-sensitive and he doesn't know it.
We see only Kylo with a lightsaber in the trailer. Perhaps the others knights of Ren still do not have the power of the force?

    2) These artifacts so powerful in the force are being used in a such a way that all of their energy will be combined by either Kylo, Snoke, or Starkiller Base?

I think even in the Tarkin novel they have been spreading the idea of the force having a residual effect on things they interact with. The dark side leaves an aftereffect on things it interacts with. Anakin's lightsaber and Vader's mask both will have a heavy aura of the dark side around them which if it somehow has an effect on force sensitivity could explain why the Knights of Ren are after them

Which is why I wonder if the rumors of Snoke being "Zombie-like" are true. Perhaps the darkside has physically drained him.

Absolutely, collecting is a common thread. And the objects have been shown to corrupt in the Lando series. Also Palpatine has a posthumous a cleanup protocol in effect across the Galaxy called Operation Cinder which includes punishing his former opponents and I suspect destroying a lot of evidence and too.

Bumping this thread with a little more detail.

The Sith artifacts are shown to have a corrupting effect. (Lando comic series)

The historian says "I came across tales with a common theme: the idea that the Sith were somehow corrupted. Or that they did the corrupting... it's unclear." The temperament of their (Lando and the historian's) companions changed and they betrayed them when they picked up the Sith lightsabers and the defeated Royal guards that had been guarding Palpatine's collection looked like zombies.
