HUMOR Finn is the coolest character

to me, Finn is the most heroic of all the characters in TFA, hands down.

Well when it comes to Rey Finn seems like a lovestruck puppy following her around everywhere but I like his name, the fact that we are shown a "day in the life"of sorts for a stormtroopers and that he brings some unknowing humor to the saga
.

 

where's the Finn love? we need more!

 

Finn is so cool in so many ways:

1) He was a really good Stormtrooper and trained really hard in several combat modes (Before the Awakening).
2) Yet he chose to leave the First Order when he saw all the horrors they were inflicting to the Galaxy (and looking forward to inflict).
3) ...and he helped the best pilot of the Resistance to escape in the process. (Well, he needed a pilot, but he did a good deed anyway.)
4) Even dying of thirst and all tired from a TIE fighter crash, he was willing to go defend a completely unknown girl in Jakku.
5) He pretended to be a Resistance fighter and be cool about it.
6) He shot a TIE fighter from the MF turret.
7) He dared to talk to Han using his last name "Solo".
8) He helped Chewie to take care of his blaster injury without being killed in the process.
9) He fought one of his old comrades with Anakin/Luke's lightsaber.
10) Pretended to know how to deactivate the shields from SKB just to save Rey.
11) And had a lightsaber fight versus a Force-sensitive (which he lost, but at least he dared to fight!).

And so on.

 

He is the easiest to relate to. While everyone else is more defined or complex, his is the character much like Luke where there was more the viewer could add or put themselves into. Rey is the new Luke, but she is more complex a character. There is a lot of potential in his character. He is funny, kind hearted and there is a lot of room for growth.

 

I adore Finn. He's an excellent character that's easy to relate to.

He's funny, brave, nervous in places, caring, and just very human. I can't wait to see him grow as a character.

Also, I think John Boyega who plays Finn is a great actor.

 

He was considered one of General Hux's BEST stormtroopers (before he deserted...)

 

Finn is the best character imo. Hes been the hero thus far from saving Poe, coming up with a plan to destroy the Starkiller base, even though he was only trying to save Rey(But was willing to go alone) and going 1 on 1 against Kylo Ren(Impressed Kylo aswell) I remember the "come and get it" line pumping up the whole theater as we see this brave but scared character finally become a badass and put it all on the line.

Hes a Stormtrooper who got to hang with Han Solo and chewie, fight with Anakin/Lukes lightsaber and gun the MF. Coolest freaking character lol

 

Finn is the coolest stormtrooper ever, the first order kept this guy down he felt it was finally time to make his own destiny & now a new path for him has begun.

 

i love this thread!

i know people like to make comparisons, but i don't think Star Wars has another character like Finn.
and i love how much he pisses Kylo Ren off--how incensed Ren gets because Finn is very likely what he really wishes he could be.
Finn is the consummate rebel with a cause.

 

They have to kiss Boyegas feed for filling the charismatic gap that Ford left behind. He gives the little extra. I am stunned by the visuals of R1. But I miss a character with this empathetic radiations and sense of humor. Most of my favorite scenes of TFA are Finn scenes ("..that's what we look like. Some of us. Others look different..")

 

It's true. All of it.

I'm going to quote the Harry Potter books here but they say it is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices.

Finn is not Force-sensitive - at least not that we know or he knows - and he has been indoctrinated all his life to follow the ways of the First Order. Yet he rejects it. Incidentally or not, he ends up fighting along with the Resistance, and as you say, he goes toward the side Kylo left when he betrayed the Jedi Academy.

 

i was wondering to myself last night why i came away from the R1 trailer feeling a wee bit nonplussed and you have hit the nail on the head!
i like the look of a lot of the characters, but i still have no sense of their personalities (zero!).
i feel like i knew Finn very well just from his first few brief appearances in the tearers and trailers. he was even bigger and better in the full film.

 

Therefore Maz Kanata's abilities of reading from the eyes of a haunted Finn is not a BIG DEAL. Because I think everyone with eyes can read Boyegas emotions directly from his strong mimics and eye expressions
...It's like you want to join him and help him with his quest.

much as i love Rey, i think it's Finn who has the leadership.
Rey hasn't yet learned to work cooperatively. Finn has a background in teamwork and it comes naturally to him.

 

and for a boy growing up in the FO army machinery it's amazing to not loose faith in other people or strangers in general. The impulsive reaction to help Rey is really remarkable concerning his background.

 

absolutely! and it comes from pure goodness of seeing what he thinks is an injustice (two thugs trying to steal a girl's droid), and what he assumes is mismatched odds.

it does make me wonder too, though, about the FO and the indoctrinated propaganda of that particular machine. if the "point" of the FO is to stamp out tyranny (while imposing its own), then it's entirely possible that the ideal part of that message is what Finn learned over the obedience of following what must have felt to him like contradictory objectives.

 

Having in mind what you have posted above, I think that they really showed us his key experience in that village with Kylo Ren pointing on helpless folks and let kill them all. At Maz Kanata's castle he tells Rey about that very special moment: "..I'll not kill for them..".
