An image of a new look TIE fighter at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has surfaced online, that many are speculating might be the new TIE Echelon that the creative executive in charge of Galaxy's Edge, Scott Trowbridge, described recently. The fighter looks like a mutant between a TIE fighter and Kylo Ren's shuttle, with a hint of Vader's x1.

WARNING: potential spoilers ahead as the image has not been part of any official release

In Anthony Breznican's coverage at EW, Trowbridge talks about the new TIE Echelon:

ABC News' Clayton Sandell, who also went to Galaxy's Edge, was a guest on our podcast The Resistance Broadcast, giving his own description after seeing this new mutant TIE fighter:

It's always cool to see new ships in Star Wars, which reminds me of the first time we got a glimpse of Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer from The Last Jedi. It doesn't mean this ship will necessarily play a major role in Episode IX, but it will make for a new interesting ship to marvel at on screen, and without a doubt, a fun new toy (or collectible if you're in denial that you like to collect toys) for us fans to pick up later this year.

What do you think of the new TIE Echelon, are you digging the design? I personally think it looks pretty cool, shades of similar designs but unique in its own right, which to me is always a good thing.

    I'm digging it.

I like when the Empire/FO sticks with the TIE theme, as long as it looks natural, and in this case I think they managed to make a larger looking ship look good with the TIE panel theme.

Not a fan of the TIE Mauler in Legends, and the patrol transport's panels just look strange to me).

Cool looking ship, although I think Disney was unwise to focus so heavily on ST/EU imagery in Galaxy's Edge and the virtual lack of OT imagery, save for the Falcon which transcends both trilogies.

The point of the ST imagery is to give you the feeling that you are actually in the SE galaxy at the present moment. Younger kids are likely going to be more familiar with the imagery of the ST. By giving it OT imagery it might give a big nostalgia trip to the parents, I think it would have less affect on the kids.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand is it the parents or the kids with the money?

Don't get me wrong. I think Galaxy's Edge looks really cool and I am sure I will be going someday (probably next year). But the OT will always be far more beloved than any other series of Star Wars movies. Why in the world the "Imagineers" thought people would rather go to Batuu (??) than, say, Tatooine or Yavin or the Death Star baffles me.

I think in one of the many articles that just came up covering Galaxy's Edge was that they felt that it's better to go to a totally new planet which in this case, Batuu, rich with history and have many connections to the Star Wars lore through books and sorts ( they said Vader, Thrawn had came there before ). The main reason is that Tatooine has its story of the Skywalker's and through Batuu, every single person who visits can be 'somebody' and integrate themselves into the Star Wars universe.

I see what you mean. I personally like the patrollers, if only because hey look like they're some weird, offshoot of the transports the Clone Troopers used fused with TIE tech. But I like pretty much all TIE things. If I lived in the galaxy, I'd make it my goal to collect Imperial ships (the TIE Reaper is downright sexy, and Inferno Squad's Raider Class Corvette is way too cool to pass up; the TIE striker is sleek, and the TIE Silencer (Kylo's ship) is B.A.).

One of my thoughts is that that is going to make a helluva Lego set, especially if they make it along the same scale as the Republic Gunship (although it looks like the ship isn't quite as large as the Republic Gunship so maybe they will adjust the scaling a bit).

    That's true.

Given its sort of backwater location, though, I'd imagine we can expect some PT and OT stuff to still be around (outside of the stuff that will obviously be in the gift shops). Stuff like a B-2 battle droid or a marooned veteran Imperial Pilot would be kind of cool.
