First, I just want to say that I'm going to do my best to not bash this new Star Wars vehicle too hard, not yet. We haven't seen the movie, and we haven't seen it in action in any of the trailers yet. The only place we've seen it is as a toy.

I must admit that my favorite.. favorite.. FAVORITE thing about the Star Wars universe is the vehicles. Ships, walkers, speeders, etc - from the prequels to the original trilogy, I've always loved them. I also love all of the new sequel trilogy vehicles that we've seen so far... except for one...

    The First Order Snowspeeder

I absolutely hate being negative, I always try to find the best in things and look on the bright side, and perhaps I need to look harder.. But I just don't see the appeal in this design at all - I almost wonder if it was specifically designed around a theme park ride - with the open cockpit, side-by-side, safety rails, etc.. I just don't get it. Also, why the name Snowspeeder? We already have an amazing Snowspeeder from ESB (a Rebel version of course) - but why not call this new one an Icespeeder... or snowshuttle... ANYTHING.. but Snowspeeder.

Maybe I'm the only one here that feels this way, but I honestly think this thing looks like a carnival ride. This has been bothering me for a while so I was just curious to see if anyone had any similar thoughts. Maybe seeing it in action will make a difference, but as of now, this is by far my least favorite Star Wars vehicle of all time.

    It's just so bland... :(

Its not my favorite design but I think I must see this vehicle in action (movie) to tell you if I really liked or not.

There is another ship that does not have a great design but for a reason that I don't know why (maybe its color?) I like it:

The Hasbro version is a bit bland. I find the diecast version sold at the Disney Store to be more appealing-

Are we sure the vehicle will be in the movie? Sometimes they do toy ships that doesn't sppear on it. Who knows! But yes, designwise is not the best one for sure...
I am really wondering how this battle in the snow will look. I just hope they shot it real. We've seen some BTS with snowtroopers and Kylo in real snow, so probably it will look nice :)

The designs for TFA that aren't reworked from old films (X-Wings, TIEs, AT-ATs, etc) all look very safe and a bit last minute to me as well.

I think they were trying to do a sort of throwback to Luke's landspeeder in ANH with this one, but it didn't quite hit the mark, maybe because of the military angle applied to what is basically an automobile in the GFFA. It's like when I was watching a documentary about a Nigerian musician who leaves his nightclub with an armed escort: two guys with AKs riding in a stripped down Volkswagen Beetle.

The Naboo had some similar vehicles in TPM when they try to take back the palace, but I assumed then that those were more like police cars than military vehicles.

This design looks like the occupants are really vulnerable. And yeah, theme park ride car.

Bad design. None of these 'new' designs do anything for me. Hopefully there is a lot other stuff that hasn't been revealed yet that makes up for some of these weak designs. It's like they are not trying to push the envelope on anything stunning and original. Say what you will about the prequels, but at least there were some pretty cool weapons of war in those films.

You mean in TPM, right? Because AOTC and ROTS have a lot of poors design too.

I think part of the problem is that the name suggests something more like this:

When we should really be comparing it this:

If you take the Naboo Flash Speeder, and replace the smooth, graceful curves and surfaces with the cold, angular designs of the Empire/Galactic Civil War, you would get something similar to the First Order "Snowspeeder."

But at least with THOSE films there were still some decent designs. Sure don't see it here. At least, not yet.

Look at all the First Order ships. They are all Bland. They echo back to that Nazi/Fascist design style. I think it fits just fine for the First Order.

    As I said: TPM.

Naboo Starfighter, Nubian J327, Sebulba's pod racer, Trade Federation Stations are good examples of great desings.

For now I'm happy to see Tie-fighters, X-wings and Star destroyers with little modification. Ah, Rey's speeder its cool too.

Just to get clear that the designs for AOTC and ROTS are the worst in the SW saga movies.

TPM had more of a blank slate for vehicle designs than AOTC and ROTS, because at that point they seemed to have decided "ok now we have to start making this stuff look like the old stuff". The Clone Starfighters I thought were an abomination. The gunships looked good, but those proto X-Wing things were U.G.L.Y.

I was so glad to see Y-Wings in the Clone Wars cartoon.

Whatever. I sure hope you aren't using that to defend this crummy design.

We need to see these ships in action I think. But I'm sure they are not creating new designs for TFA, they will show us more of the old stuff that most of the old fans want to see: Millenium falcon, Tie, X-wing, Star Destroyers, etc....

It's like a sci-fi chariot, I like it. It's really not so out of place imo. One driver and one gunner, seems logical. I also don't think they would be so lazy to make this for a disney attraction and then just copy it into the film with the attraction features still on it.

The First Order Snowspeeders appear to be inspired by the Imperial Speeder we've seen here:

i think that once you see them in action, you might start getting a better feel from those speeder designs.
