First Viewing tonight...loves, dislikes and spottings

    Just got back from first viewing tonight (yeah I know , I know, really really LATE for a SW fanatic)

    Letting it sink in , and in raucous discussions with my 3 sons (16, 15 and 12) about it....we all liked it/loved it....just have different perspectives.

    Loves

    - Cinematography was amazing, on par with TLJ. Many scenes of the epic, sweeping quality. Tapestries....Rey on Tatooine, Rey/Ben's showdown on the Death Star wreckage, Ben/Han on the Death Star, the rebel fleet at the end
    - JW's score. Tremendous, different takes on Rey's theme, Kylo's theme, weaving in themes from throughout the saga
    - Rey in the showdown scene with Palps. Emotionally powerful!
    - Chewie gets a medal!
    - WEDGE!!! 'nuff said as an X-Wing fanatic...
    - A-wings, B-wings, Y-wings, T-65/T-70 X-wings, Corellian freighters, Mon Cala starships
    - Kylo's new TIE

    Dislikes

    - Kylo's TIE explodes on the desert then is magically rebuilt (OK maybe he has a spare or two?)
    - The SITH pyramidal thingy was not destroyed when Rey burns Kylo's TIE to the ground
    - JJ reverting to A New Hope fan service with the "Chewie rescue" scene
    - Not enough Lando
    - No Anakin or Yoda force ghost
    - Domnall Gleason's character/not enough screentime

    Spottings

    - WEDGE!
    - Nien Nunb
    - Was that the Tantive IV or just another CR90 corvette?
    - Was that Qui-Gonn's voice in the Jedi montage?
    - Millenium Falcon breakdown noise (as it landed after the first sequence)

    Not Spotted

    - Mouse droid
    - Gonk droid
    - Luke's green saber

    I just caught it (1st view) tonight as well— I was feeling like I was the only one who hadn’t seen it yet.

    Short perspective:
    I liked it. (I wouldn’t say it was “good”, but it was definitely both fun and emotionally satisfying... so, -it was definitely “good enough”.)

    You mentioned the lack of force ghosts- I agree.
    I would’ve liked especially to have seen a Yoda connection and conversation with Rey.

    @Jayardia Agreed. Would have liked JJ to do a little more tying up the whole saga at the end - how about Qui-Gonn, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, Luke, Leia and Ben force ghosts?

    Also, I was hoping against hope for some sort of medal scene....hey at least the Wookiee got something this time!

    Force Ghost only appear to the one(s) who have known or met them during their lifetime.
    FG Anakin cannot appear to Ben Solo.
    FG Yoda cannot appear to Rey, but FG Leia and FG Luke can even if Leia never learnt the way to be a FG.

    Yeah maybe, but what about Yoda talking to Rey in TFA in that Force Vision? And in Tros we have Ahsoka and Windu talking to Rey...

    Moreover we have learned that she's now all Jedi. So would't it make sense now more than ever that they all can now speak or appear to her?

    I was going to say “Hold on, what about Yoda to Ezra?”... (hah!) ...then I caught myself. He was (of course) alive and well at that point, brewing up wicked swamp stews on Dagobah.

    Yep... that seems like a sound notion.

    Maybe a full-on “apparition” would be excessive or overwhelming for someone who didn’t know the other in life... or maybe it’s just a FG rule.

    talking is not appearing...
    If you pay attention, by the end of episode 6 (ROTJ), Leia who hugs Luke does not see the 3 FG who appear to Luke. She shows no emotion, no surprise, nothing, because she actually doesn't (or cannot) see what Luke is contemplating.

    starting at 2:33 :

    notice how Han (in the background as Luke is called by the FG) and Leia (when she comes to Luke to hug him) do not notice anything.

    Imo think it's because by that time Leia wasn' t that in touch with the Force.

    I have often wondered about myself. It does make sense, and it would explain why Luke never encountered Qui-Gon. Since it has never been stated, I think this is technically speculation, but it definitely could be true.

    The closest thing I can think of to a counterexample (assuming that Force voices are different from Force ghosts) was that Ben definitely tries to commune with Anakin - but there is no proof he ever succeeded.

    Did everyone like the "Twin Sun BB-8" in the last scene? Poignant way to tie the OT to the ST.....

    And.....how many ships did you spot in the massive fleet at the end? Was the Razor Crest or Ghost there?

    'Crest I don't think so - there's a ship with roughly same front profile to the left of the Eravana in this pic, but it looks too round in the body and engines too small for Mando's ride... but The Ghost yes... on the right :)

    ...one of your favoured U-Wings below Eravana too.
