For Episode 8 Haters - Crazy Ideas to Fix Luke's Character

We just should have got a lot more time and action with Luke. Give us a flashback with him taking out the Knights Of Ren, or some sith lords... anything.

They hyped us up for a duel between Luke and Kylo, only to have them never clash sabers and Luke's a hologram? That's weak if we've seen no badass moments with him prior to that. We needed more than the AT-AT fire scene, especially after he got his ass handed to him by Rey.

He even acted really scared when Rey put the lightsaber towards him.. and the whole Kylo sleeping thing made Luke look cowardly. Killing someone in their sleep? That's not honorable at all. Luke should have confronted him when he was awake.

They could have even put a duel between them in the flashback, and still had the younger Luke! God....

They really did mess him up in this film.

Seriously though I feel for you guys.
A part of me knows exactly what its like.

 

I think its probably difficult to fix what has been done without breaking the world itself. Options like erasing episode 8 from the canon might very well happen, but that will sometime far in the future when they decide to reboot or something.

For now, I think some more central would be on how they build excitement for any SW movie anymore. With TFA, they planted certain elements and gave cues for people to anticipate and get excited. But, then they ripped them apart and took pride in actually doing it. So whatever reasons for excitement that one may find after watching TLJ, one is left with not being able to trust the next movie to deliver. In fact, they will take pride in not delivering and setting something else up for the next movie (which they will not deliver on as well).

My thoughts would be that they should just get this new trilogy over with as soon as possible and then maybe switch to the Old Republic storytelling and pretend the new trilogies never happened

 

I posted something similar in the Plagueis and Snoke's threads but in my solution Snoke only managed to influence Luke during that fleeting moment when he contemplated murdering Kylo, his goal was accomplished anyway, not only turning Ben but also making Luke the catalyst for Kylo's fall, filling him with guilt and despair.
And yes he is Plagueis, both of his deaths were orchestrated by himself for some kind of ultimate master plan.

 

It's stupid how easy it could've been not to portray Luke the way they did.
1) Don't make him milk the space cow, ffs.
2) Don't make him ignite the light saber in Ben's room. (I can buy Luke's THOUGHT of killing Ben, but igniting the saber while Ben's sleeping is beyond a thought. Which was the misportrayal (is there such a word?) of Luke. The whole scene was poorly executed and could've been easily saved.)
3) Don't make him throw out the lightsaber.
4) Get rid of anticlimactic humor in the "reach out" scene.

The force projection scene was kind of cool, well, not the scene itself, but the idea behind it. But why the blue saber? Also, was it that difficult to make him be able to fight as a projection? I mean, he touched Leia, so he's tangible. Why no fighting then? Why matrix-like slow-motion cringe?
They should've shown all the Luke scenes to some QA group and had them easily fixed. But no, let the fans have some cheese and cringe.

 

You meant to say Luke will tell Rey "I am your father"

What you say would be nice, though it really makes Snoke into someone very powerful and makes his death a bit underwhelming....

 

I have no doubt that a future filmmaker in this franchise will give the finger to Rian's "lore" in the same way that X-Men 3 was treated, but yeah it may take a few years.

Hopefully JJ does it. Rian did **** over some of his ideas after all.

I honestly think it was done systematically to make Luke look inferior to Rey. These things were no accident.. there's billions of dollars riding on Star Wars.

Not that I think he needs fixing.. but there could be an after credits scene in IX where Luke sets up in the bed, sweaty and startled. Mara sits up beside him and asks, "What's wrong babe" He responses I just had a terrible dream. While we here Ben Skywalker crying in his crib.

 

I guess if you don't like it, you can always have a headcanon or write fanfiction.
That's what I do for Revan, The Exile, Bastila, Canderous, and everything else KOTOR 1/2 related in regards to the Revan book and TOR....

 

I will say that they made a real point of showing that Snoke is immensely powerful.
Luke thinks Ben and Rey are on a level he hasn't seen before and Snoke flicks them both around like stick-figures (without any sign of even the slightest strain).
I don't believe he is Plagueis though - you have an ancient technology vibe all over the FO and Kylo's blade design harks back to Malachor.
He was (is) old.

As for the crazy ideas overall, I would've made Snoke Anakin's father or creator after all. Call him Plagueis, call him whatever. I would've made it so that he survived Palpatine killing him, with his living force transferred into another body (somewhat like Voldemort in the Harry Potter books). But he reincarnated on a distanced underdeveloped planet, therefore he wasn't present during the events of OT. I would've made Rey Skywalker.
In ep. IX's final stand-off I would've made Snoke have a line: ALL OF YOU SKYWALKERS BELONG TO ME. THE FORCE BELONGS TO ME. I AM THE FORCE. THREE OF YOU (Luke, Rey, Ben) CAN NOT DEFEAT ME ALONE.
*force ghosts of Anakin, Old Obi-wan, Yoda, Qui-gon appear*
Yoda: alone they're not.
*force ghosts do some crazy force things draining force from Snoke*
*everything around starts exploding and collapsing*
Luke using force-pushes to save Ben and Rey. He stays alone (with the force ghosts) to fight Snoke. Snoke uses some force lightnings on Luke, Luke absorbs them the way Yoda did in ROTS. Luke's coming closer and closer to Snoke. Touches his forehead, using some new technique disconnetcs him from the force (avatar Aang-like) therefore disconnecting himself and Ben and Rey from the force as well. Massive explosion, Both Snoke and Luke die. Others survive. Ben and Rey, force sensitive no more, but with a lot of knowledge of the the force walk into the horizon, willing to teach other force sensitive kids the ways of the force. The Skywalker Saga is over. The end. Directed by Larry David.

- Give him a scene where he sense darkness in Ben that is really dangerous BUT NOT USING THE Maclunkey LIGHT SABER
- Give him a scene when he arguing with Ben about how Ben is tapping into the dark side in training.
- Give him a scene where he look at Ben training and Ben hurt a student by his inept to control rage
- Give him a scene where he wake up and see the academy is in fire, while trying to save his students, he face Kylo with Knight of Ren. He beat all the knights and Kylo but can't deliver the killing blow. They ran away.
- Give him a scene where he tell Rey to dive down to the darkness, with he watching Rey. He want to test how tempted she's before the dark side.
- Give him a scene where he crying before Rey.
- After he trained Rey, they leave together to confront Snoke.
- Millenium falcon arrived right where Raddux bridge is attacked by TIE, he use his force to save EVERYONE ON THE BRIDGE. Yeah, show how he mastered the force those years.
- They need to infiltrating Supremacy to destroy the tracker-core.
- Poe, Finn and "Rose" do the destroy, while Rey and Luke go to confront Snoke.
- Snoke tell him that Rey and Ben has ForceFacetime the whole time behind his back.
- He feel betrayed, whip out the Light Saber, ready to strike down Ben/Rey. Snoke interfere, lightning his ass, give Kylo upperhand in the saber combat.
- Luck said:" I've failed you Ben". Then either he is saber barbecue by Kylo, or poof force ghost like Obiwan depend on how much director want Kylo to be redeemed.

 

Luke bedtime encounter with Kylo was a Jedi test. The goal was to bring fourt the darkness in his Palawan and then help hm turn back to the light. Luke failed to pull Kylo back from his fear and anger. Luke never intended to harm Kylo.

Plagues/Snoke a dark side entity that goes by many names,has to pull Luke back from the Force in order to defeat Dark Lord Ren

Luke isn't dead, he's expended so much energy he had to return to the Force, but his time in solitude with those texts and ghosts has taught him how to come back, albeit after a good deal of time. Crude matter, to energy and back again, a la Gandalf.

Luke returns in time to fight off the Knights of Ren with Rey (not that she needs help or anything "don't hold my hand"). At the end of Ep 9 he truly gets struck down, no doubt to his death this time. (not that there's any now lol)

I like the Snoke idea in the original post.

I like the idea that Rey becomes a gray jedi (It would make Rey unique or special in a different way. I love the actress, she's the redeeming part of Rey, but the character so far as written is kind of bland), and we see broom boy have to choose sides at the end of this trilogy (setting up the next one).

Having Rey as a gray jedi would open the door to some cool new quotes. "The path of the gray is to walk the edge of a blade. One side light, the other dark." I'm sure pro writers could come up with better.

Back to Luke... we see him kick some behind with the Knights of Ren, only to fall to Kylo, where Rey steps in (or Luke kills Kylo and Rey kills Luke to restore balance)

 

So I am not voting until I see episode 9.
