They should really focus on doing characters with more freedom in their stories because these Rey "deleted scenes" aren't interesting and very limited since we know she gets to Niima outpost. I hope they focus less on the movie characters like Rey, Leia, and Padme and instead focus on the ones with more gaps in their story. We have no idea what Ahsoka did for like 15 years after her novel and before Rebels. We know Hera survives until Endor, don't show us something that is going to make the continuity a bit iffy (her being on Endor during RotJ) but instead show us her in the years in between. Show us Leia before ANH or after RotJ. Hell give me character who have barley been touched, give me Depa Billaba (with padawan Kanan), give me Aayla Secura, give me Shaak Ti, give me Yaddle, because those characters have much more interesting things that can be done with them then the characters we have seen plenty of. I would rather these be really cool little tidbits of story we haven't seen rather than "hey this happens in between two scenes in the movie but we don't mention it in the movie."

 

The point of these is they're three minute ads aimed at young girls. They're character introductions, nothing more.

 

So Rey thought about selling BB after having many adventures with him, where she risked life and limb to get him to nima outpost?

 

Sixty portions are probably worth a half year of scavenging, so when you consider the fact that she didn't really plan to go away, it's not that strange that she may have considered giving him away.

 

Amazing what potentially not eating will cause....

 

I don't think it is totally out of character and inconsistent, but don't you think fighting against giant monsters and getting shot outweighs half a years worth of food?

It isn't deal-breakingly stupid, but to me it is similar to Luke having a bunch of duels with Vader in the comics. I just slightly cheapens the on screen events.

 

No, I don't. I still think it's a pretty good deal. Besides, she was a skilled fighter for a reason - to defend herself from thieves and other creatures that can steal her junk (and as a consequence her food.)

 

Ok, fair enough. I'd never risk my life for half a year salary, but I know many would. I can't say one choice is right or wrong, only that I can't relate to it.

If Han considered selling Luke to Vader in ESB, I'd have found it similarly weird.

 

I had high hopes for FoD, but like most people I wasn't too excited after the first episode (Sands of Jakku). The second one (BB-8 Bandits) was a bit better and the storyline built on the first episode. Still, I would have enjoyed some Easter eggs or lines. It doesn't need to be a superspoiler for the TLJ, but it could be something along the lines of Rey telling BB-8 casually how many years she's been in Jakku, or a reference to her tally marks, without revealing the full story behind it. It could have made the episode a bit more interesting for the hard-core fans.
Still, I haven't lost hope. We should remember that both The Clone Wars and SW Rebels didn't give us their best during the first two episodes. SW Rebels started to become better and better at the end of Season 1. And with the arrival of Ahsoka, Season 2 was very enjoyable and gave us one of the best season finales. TCW had amazing seasons like 4 to 6.
My point is: it's too early to trash FoD. It's true they have another demographic in mind, but I'm sure they know hard-core fans are following this. If they had started with complex storylines and many Easter eggs that don't mean anything to the new demographic, they would have lost it. Once they secure the new audience, they will be in a position to offer more to both, the new and the old. Yes, let's face it, we're the old.

I completely agree with you. Prior to its release, I was afraid FoD was just a scheme to widen their consumer market and sell more toys. I also feared that it would basically be a bunch of pointless stories, that just so happen to feature a well-known character. While I don't feel like the former is true, I think the latter is definetly possible. The first two Rey ones just don't really fell like they... fit in within TFA, if that makes sense? Next time I watch the movie knowing that Rey and BB-8 had a little adventure offscreen within it, while Finn's breaking Poe out of the Finalizer, it doesn't feel right somehow? However, the Ewok one actually filled in some info that was never explained: Leia's time with the Ewoks. While I don't feel like the shorts themselves are great, some of the new information within them can be useful in filling in gaps.

 

Loved the Wicket/Leia episode.
