    Actually, the armor was inspired to some way by medieval knights armor of the 15/16th century, including the so called ‘pasguards’ (Garde de cou, Brechrand) on the shoulder-plates for neck-protection, especially against right-handed swung melee weapons.

    Such an armor would also be appropriate for guys coming into contact with cross-guard light saber users and their kind. At least, sword and armor style are from the same period.
