SO far, the directors attached to the new films are all young up and comers. But what about some people who have already proven their mettle?

GIven he's now through with directing Marvel movies, what if Joss Whedon handled a spinoff film? What if he handled an Ahsoka spinoff film? I mean, she was basically in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer mould to begin with (young, snarky, badass), and it would allow him to do what he does best - intense character development via nuanced dialogue amid utter chaos.

We're never getting more Firefly, so why not some Star Wars from the guy?

I wonder who else JJ and Kathleen Kennedy might deem fit to offer a shot, and who among the upper echelon would accept?

And female directors. I'd LOVE to see a female writer/director tackle a Star Wars story. Going back to Joss, what about Jane Espenson handling the writing? Sofia Coppola would be an interesting choice, and the Lucas connection is right there.
