All these Luke/Rey theories are fun and all but it would directly contradict evidence given to us in the previous film. Maz pretty blatantly tells us Rey's parents are never coming back and she can find a new family with Luke/Jedi. This is just wishful fan thinking. Last Jedi is only a two hour film. There is simply not enough time to have some elaborate explanation of all the things that would have to be said in order for it to make any sort of sense. The amount of exposition would be ridiculous.

However we should pray to the Force they do explain characters and plot behind since ep. IX is closing and is also 2 hours and I think nobody wants for trilogy Films, which were and should stay "The Gospels" within canon,to end as action packed superficial extravaganza without curriage and the intellectual power to establish fundaments .

They can have cool meaningful character moments without resorting to a ton of exposition. There is a classic tip to screenwriters "show don't tell" The amount of telling that would be required to make Luke Rey's dad is baffling. I want my limited screen time for awesome character moments not some other character explaining things about another character.

Imagine Empire Strikes Back without"I am your father".

Though about Rey and Luke I agree could be convoluted, she is possibly not Luke's child .Jet,Rey is new Luke, such pivotal characters must be explained its continuation trilogy and Rey and Snoke is reason why Sequel trilogy exists afterall.
.Kylo is set,Rey parentage and Snoke's background should be explained.Others can wait for novels, standalones, cartoons.
So we have just 2 pivotal characters to elaborate in trilogy, Rey and Snoke and only reason not to tell their story is bad scenario writing,or in fact fear of inability to conceptually satissfy story. We already concluded abandoning Plagueis made Snoke very difficult to elaborate, jet that is not excuse but result of sad devotion of story group to action instead connection.

I would tend to agree. I think the inherent difficulty in telling the ST is the time gap from the OT. If they could just pick up a couple years or so after the OT then there wouldn't be much explaining needed or wanted. But being 30 years after the OT and the real life legacy characters being 30 years older. You just can't pick up where they left off. They have to pick up 30 years after to coincide with the real life look of the characters ages. Trying to explain why everything is the way it is and everything about what happened with the characters over the past 30 years would require a lot of exposition to catch up with all the details. Which would tend to provide to be a little boring. While they will probably explain past key event to help drive the plot forward, I don't think you will get as much explaining and detailed as some want and feel is needed.

    Wait...

Who says Rey grew up with a father at all? People quote Maz's dialogue assuming that Luke must have raised or even known he had a daughter. Recall that when Kylo looks deep into Rey's mind, he remarks, "Han Solo, you feel he's the father *you never had.*" (In which case, obviously the belonging Rey seeks is ahead of her, with Luke+others.)

As for exposition, well, all you need are a few Forcebacks for the essentials, with more backstory filled in via EU materials. There are *30 years* to fill. If the directors can figure out a way to convince us Kylo is a sympathetic figure worthy of redemption, they can certainly manage to convince us that at some point in the past 30 years, Luke had a wife and child. If I can imagine uncomplicated backstory explanations, I'm sure professional scriptwriters can, too.

I never said Rey grew up with a Father. Her family abandoned her as we see in the vison. That is why Maz says those people are NEVER coming back. She says that Rey can find belonging with Luke and the Jedi which sets us up perfectly for VIII without the need of force backs or Rey magically forgot who she was.

If Rey grew up without a father than Maz didn't say said father wasn't coming back, and it would make sense that Rey would find the "belonging she seeks" with Luke :)

And I think that's a misinterpretation of Maz's line and doesn't make any sense in the context of the rest of the dialog.

Only a small fraction of any conceivable backstory is actually relevant to the plot of a film. The only parts that actually matter are those which drive character actions, the rest are details that can be safely left to stories dedicated to covering them.

You don't need a Forceback or flashbacks. You need a page worth of dialog at most, spread across the movie.

Even if Snoke is the BBEG this Trilogy isn't Rey and Snoke its Kylo and Rey. Rey and Kylo are the oppositional parallels of Anakin's legacy. They are the former and ladder students of Luke. Snoke might show up and do something bad but he isn't the principal antagonist.

No that is just taking her words at face value. Her parents are gone and never coming back and Luke is her future and will give her belonging she will never have from the people who left her on Jakku. Anything else is speculation. What way are you interpreting her statement?

No. Her FAMILY is gone and isn't coming back.

I know the various canon sources tend to conflate "family" with "parents," but there's a crucial distinction: "Family" does not necessarily include mother and father; "parents" does.

Family is a catch all term for any sort of relationship brother sister father mother. By saying family she means everyone unless specified otherwise. If you think she is not referring to part of her family then that is speculation. There is no evidence to support that.

Maz is specifically addressing what she heard from Han - Rey wants to go back to Jakku because she believes her family will come back for her. Maz has no way to know why Rey believes that, but it's also evident it's not happening and that, deep down, Rey knows that (I gave a possible reason in my post). Maz is trying to get Rey to stop wasting her life, that's it (she may know far more, but we don't know).

From an out of universe perspective, the part where Maz says 'soldier still could' is a non-sequitur if Luke has no prior relation to Rey.

Snoke is enemy of Life itself. The Force awakened because of him.

Your over speculation will be your undoing.:p

Snoke is a dark sider. He's a space litch. Not the Space Devil.

You will find that it is you who are mistaken about great many things :).

Thrawn mentions that threat from Unknown regions is treat to all life.

Snoke is not some dark side apologetic adept, he is menace, appears to be centuries old plague (Tashu reference), that wants to exterminate known life in the galaxy and shape reality to himself.( of course Force has Awaken and is about to strike him back, in ep. IX., for his sins).

Oh, Rey had a sister and brother? :p

Family means the people who raised her. There are no "default" members of a "family." So it could include both parents, one parent, no parents...

The only reason we think anyone left her is Rey herself believing it.

My point is just that he can be powerful (if he is even the major villain instead of Kylo Ren) but he doesn't need to be near omnipotent. Which is what I am picking up in your post. I really don't want super uber characters. There gets to be a level of power I find is too much.

Like I said he's a major threat but he doesn't need near all powerful. Neither does Luke.

If he is so menacing and life threatening why did he have them build Star Killer base. It could even be stories of weapons like SKB that make Thrawn think such a great threat is out there.
