HBO should have made a deal with a movie studio to release three 2.5 hour episodes in theaters. Budget would allow for a lot more. You could display time better with the increased budget.

It would be an interesting work, but it should have been done for the sake of the show...

That would be awesome. Released... how? Back to back to back, 3 weekends in a row? That would make for an intense couple weeks! Really though, I think it would be more than fun to go to the movies for a weekly event... talk about merging TV with Theater. Though, I still stand by my thoughts that the show has a much more cinematic feel this season, so I guess in a way it is doing that.

Awhile (2-3 seasons) ago, I thought I heard some rumors of the show "ending" on HBO but then being concluded with a movie, or two. The way things are going now though, I doubt that's the case as I'm sure we would have heard something. Also I guess it would involve having every actor signed under a new contract for the films, and unfortunately, I'm not sure everyone would be willing to sign on again (for the right price).

Season lasts two months, spread it over two months.

It would suck but at the same time, something like that almost requires the input of a bigger studio for budget reasons.
Shame but I get why they are doing so much abbreviating this season.

I've also seen people (not here really but elsewhere) complain that the show is becoming too plot driven and away from the characters.
Well that's because they spent 6 seasons developing characters and not resolving A DAMN THING. So now they have to rush to resolve every plot left open...which is all of them

BWAHAHAHAHA true. But seriously people, it's getting closer to the endgame. What did people want? Had Daenerys stalled for another season on Meereen? Jon trying to please the Northerners while the NK and his army were walking 2 steps per week? Ugh.

Some good fan-videos to keep the hype alive!

The story has to end. And the bottom line is, they can't afford to do it like they did before.
People need to accept short cuts now or just give up on it.

It was really bothering me when the Jon/Dany side was moving at more standard GoT speed while Lannister forces were on meth speed.
Now that it's more evened out, I can get behind it.

I also think a big theme of recent seasons has been disassociation from the actions of one's father and mother. It was maybe most obvious when it was directly referenced in the company of Daenerys, the Greyjoy siblings, and Tyrion.

Basically, I think that now that this new generation is now pretty much fully in control and almost beyond the petty squabbles of Robert's Rebellion, the Greyjoy Rebellion, and the War of the Five Kings, we can actually see crap getting done.

Now, why I say almost is this-
Each war still had a high ranking member with a sore spot for it, and these leaders have been (or had been) mired down this season because of it, while everyone else gets s*** done.

Robert's Rebellion- Daenerys, obviously. That's probably why she spent the good part of this season on Dragonstone, relatively idle much like previous seasons. The fact that she rode out at the loot train was basically an extension of that war- but riding north was something new, and makes me hopeful for her character. We could even see how her war mired Jon down by proxy for a while, up until he was given free reign to leave.

Greyjoy Rebellion- Euron. There's no doubt that he's still sore about this, and that makes him a dangerous ally to Cersei. Euron had a strong start to the season, but he wasn't so much as doing things as hampering them. Plus, we haven't seen him for several episodes.

War of the Five Kinds- Cersei. Still concerned with staying on the Iron Throne, Cersei has thus far been totally blind to the real threat. She also hasn't done a whole lot this season- I mean, she's had military successes, but those were most a somewhat-reluctant Jamie's doing, and her biggest goal (paying back the Iron Bank) failed miserably. She might be the only one still really fighting the War of the Five Kings at this point, and she's slowly becoming irrelevant because of it.

We can see this sort of clinging to the past in other characters, too. Take Littlefinger, for example. Once a major player in Kings Landing (and possible contender with aspirations for the Throne, at least according to the fandom), he's now reduced to playing games with the Stark children in backwater Winterfell (sorry Winterfell, I love you). Even more than that, it seems like Sansa is pretty well aware of his tricks enough to consistently shut him down, and I have faith Arya will catch on as well (if she hasn't already, and is just toying with her prey). So Littlefinger is seemingly far north of the Throne and in basically a prison where he cannot make actions anymore. It's almost sad.

But yeah, that's my take- people are finally getting stuff done, because they're able to move past their petty past squabbles.

You make a lot of sense. I mean, if someone had told me back in Season 1 that the bastard of Winterfell and the Targaryen girl sold as a broodmare would become what they are right now in terms of the whole story, I would have not believed it since everything indicated the power struggles in the realm were the main focus of the series. However, now the three main storylines - the Others, the Targaryen restoration and the power struggles - have converged and as of now, the main conflict is to face the real threat rather than being children playing a game and yelling that the rules are not fair.

Due to censorship laws, I'm not allowed to type the words that come to mind when trying to describe that season finale.

But let me tell you, it begins with a lot of kriffs and blasts and ends with phenomenal. There's some holy's mixed in there as well.

Pretty exciting stuff. I was worried the episode was going to drag on and on like the first 45 minutes but it definitely picked up. Of course last season's finale is the gold standard, so I was expected the incredible.

    OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

I have to admit I had heard the spoilers before so I sort of knew what was going to happen beforehand.

However, I think the episode delivered since even when the three main storylines have already converged, it is quite difficult to keep the pace the previous seasons had.

(And yeah, I shamelessly ship those two!)

Of course they left us with a lot of questions, discussions about potential Targaryen restoration in the face of the true enemy and I guess we will have more than enough time to discuss about that and keep speculating (hope not! hope they release it next year but we shall see).

Well that's was a fantastic season ending . Personally I loved all the dialogue heavy scenes particularly the ones between Cerci & Tyrion & then between Theon & Jon & that last one nod has so much more power to it giving the revelations that come later in the episode. I still really love Euron & looking forward to his return next season.

Now I just hope I don't have to wait until 2019 for the end of this show. Is there any info on when it is likely to return.

I know, this was one of my favorite parts too!

The trial in the Great Hall of Winterfell probably tops it for me though. :D
I can finally be proud of both Sansa and Arya at the same time.

Oh I 100% agree & they finally got it right with those two as that part felt a little forced during the previous episodes but just his face when Sasha accused him absolutely priceless of course it helps that Bran finally decides to help out by revealing just what Littlefinger had done since S1. Not sure what they are going to be doing with them next season but a Arya, Hound, Brian & Tomund teamup should hopefully give The Undead army some problems.

Chances are Daenerys will conceive a child in the show, whereas she won't in the books. As we know, the light and the dark are intertwined: from life comes death (as with Renly), and from death comes life (as with Aegon). Sure, the Dothraki enslaved witch may have made her barren, but as we know Aegon is not alive anymore, he's merely a reanimated corpse similar to the White Walkers.

So, assuming Daenery Targaryen does get pregnant from her nephew, what manner of incestuous devilry would the child be? :D

Side-note: guess the writers took the word shipping too literally

You joke, but awkwardly enough Westeros history has Targs born "outside the family" as the monstrous ones compared to their more genetically pure counterparts.

That's some magic blood there I tells ya!

So it's the other way around? Half of them turn out crazy as it is, but they would get even worse if they stopped inbreeding? It's times like these I understand why the Night King is hell bent on wiping off humanity.

    lol

I forgot to say: Thanks to the Old Gods and the New for Kit Harington. (Nuff said).

At first I was complaining about having that conversation between Jon and Theon but I reckon it is going to become even more poignant to Jon when he finds out he's not a bastard. He's a Targaryen and he is a Stark so he does not have to choose between one or the other.

    This!!!

I am not whinging about it.

But seriously, I started rewatching from Season 1 due to my current GoT withdrawals and it's been there since the beginning. Even their scenes are practically one after the other in most of the cases. Their journeys mirror each other so I don't really get why some fans are so mad about this so-called "fan-service".

Yep, I mean we have cases of wacky people like Lysa and Robin Arryn, we have inbreed monsters like Joffrey or Viserys, or non-inbreed pure evil monsters like Ramsay. Or we could have great people like Rhaegar, Daenerys or Jon (remember Jon had inbreeding too from the Starks - Rickard was married to his niece).
