Stumbled across a great interview of Edwards, he provides very interesting insight into the Vader scene. They decided to shoot the Vader scene a mere 4 months before R1 was set to be released!! The final scene took only 3 days to shoot. The final scene was to be when the Tantive-IV drops away and Vader looks at it speeding away.

Edwards thought , in discussion with KK, that they needed "more" in that sequence, and oh my goodness I think we can agree they decided to shoot that scene! Definitely in my Top 5 SW scenes of all time !!!

By the way, Edwards himself kept the plans disk from the final scene. Also, he pulled the handle to launch the Tantive-IV. The more I see and hear of Edwards , the more I hope he is involved in future SW endeavors, how about director of Ep X?

I saw this! It's amazing that a scene added in at the last minute is the one that's gotten the most attention.

Edwards is a fan. You can tell in how he made Rogue One. The complaints of lacking character depth make sense if you think about it as a kid playing with his Star Wars toys in his basement.

For all you youngins, that's how we got new content. We bought "action figures" which were physical pieces of molded plastic and we used our imaginations.

Awesome clip of GE's geniusness I'd be up for him being a director again.

Arguably the best scene in the movie.

Agreed it wouldn't be the same without a little Vader contribution, I always hoped he got some before A New Hope.

I had no idea that the Vader scene wasn't initially going to be in the film!!! Wow, that has to be one of the best last minute decisions of mankind lol.
I didn't know the director gave a cameo either. Great info and a great little interview!

@Onid Bonazzo Yeah seriously....3 days to film it, a mere 4 months before the movie opens......Ballsy and aggressive. I love Gareth.....you can tell he takes SW very seriously!

GE played out his role well in helping the Tantive IV & become the keeper of the death star plans.

I'm not a huge fan of R1... I know, I'm the scum of Mos Eisley. But this scene was fantastic. I dived into my sense of disbelief and embraced the energy and excitement of that scene. I think it's a very polarising scene too, a lot of my friends really didn't like it.

Best scene in the film, hands down. It emphasizes exactly why nobody but a fully-trained Jedi would have a prayer of beating Vader.

We really need Hot Toys to make a Gareth Edwards Rebel Fleet Trooper action figure.
