    Hey all,

Hints of the next wave of Disney/LFL's Star Wars were offered last year but it was nothing much more than a name: Project Luminous. Now there are rumors from rather credible sources with more likely to appear in the coming weeks and months before Star Wars Celebration in April.

This thread is for listing and discussion general news and rumors. Let's start with linking SWNN's own report on the matter from a few days ago: https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/202...lace-centuries-before-the-skywalker-saga.html

    What we know:
--Disney has slotted a Star Wars movie for December 2022
--Benioff & Wisse left SW for Netflix some way into the development/pre-production of their proposed series
--Kevin Feige is slated to “develop a Star Wars movie”
--Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, & Charles Soule are attached to Project Luminous.

    General rumor:
--The 2022 film was supposed to be the first in B&W’s series

    Conjecture:
--Kevin Feige was brought in to work on the upcoming 2022 film, for which Disney is likely to pull out all the stops

    Ziro proposed leaks:
--Project Luminous is set 3-400 years before the Skywalker Saga (i.e. ca. between 432 BBY and 265 BBY)
--Plot will involve a group of Jedi exploring unknown regions of the galaxy, encountering 3 different enemies (including “ancient evils, Sith gods of some sort”)
--Project Luminous will be “launched” in 2020, but the first product will be a 2021 video game

    Making Star Wars proposed leaks:
--Jason Ward corroborates the Ziro story
--Also adds that the time period/setting is referred to as the “High Republic”
--States categorically that B&W’s first movie was to be the first film in this Project Luminous sub-franchise

So, what did I miss?

If I had to guess Lucasfilm will start introducing Jedi in single films from this era. They'll gently introduce the concept of Jedi having specialized abilities. We've seen this in Fallen Order and they may start introducing things like "healing" and other powers as we move forward. Some of this could be explained that for a period of time Jedi were born all over the galaxy with more specialize powers and then later it was less common as we moved closer to the end of the Republic.

I like the idea that the force is ever changing through time.

Doing single stories allows Lucasfilm to take bigger risks. If a film doesn't do well they can move on to another story. The biggest thing right now is find talented actors and start building from there.

They'd be wise to get an actor like Timothée Chalamet and put him in a film. After watching The King on NetFlix I couldn't help but think he'd be a perfect actor to play a young Jedi in an adventure. Timothy Olyphant would also be an excellent choice for an older Jedi or bounty hunter. Lastly, Naomi Scott would be an inspired choice for a role. She was fantastic in Aladdin. None of these will probably happen, but there's a lot of talented actors out there Lucasfilm could start building these stories around.

Not a bad idea. I liked how Ezra Bridger seemed to have a stronger connection to animals.

Either that, or something happens and causes Yoda to make changes to the Jedi order which resembles on what we see with in the PT. Yoda would definitely be alive during this time frame.

I'm very wary. I do think 2022 is too early 4 another SW film. Any SW film should be released around 2025.

As long as they've been properly planned I have no issue with multiple Star Wars films every year. The film scheduled for 2022 has been in planning for several years so if they're ready to go then there's no reason to push it back. There's no such thing as Star Wars fatigue. If they make good films then they can release as many as they want. My bigger questions isn't 2022 it's what they do after that. If the film in 2022 doesn't work their entire plan might be sunk.

Assuming a script is approved and ready by this Fall that would leave plenty of time to get it ready for December 2022.

Thinking about this isnt it better if they are going to be exploring the unknown regions that it would be better to be set off into the future, not the past. Seems odd to me that the Jedi would do all this exploring in the unknown regions and that the knowledge gained would really be mostly forgotten.

A tragic event could easily prevent the future knowing about the discoveries or they could be purposely erased. Maybe the galaxy will have their own version of the burning of Library of Alexandria or something?

Oh yeah. Yoda has to be in it if its only 3-400 years before Skywalker.

At the time of TPM, the Jedi have not had contact with the Sith for 1,000 years. So if these rumors are true, it seems like the most likely possibilities are

    1. Disney will just keep throwing the PT under the bus and contradicting it whenever they want, or
    2. We will get another round of villains that are “Sorta Sith but not really,” or
    3. Everyone who encounters the Sith gets killed and no one finds out about it

You know, the fact that Disney is bringing back the Clone Wars next month. The return of the darksaber-- a soley prequel and Rebels weapon I might add, but I digress. The Jedi's goal is keepers of the peace, not necessarily fight/kill Sith. That goal doesn't have to involve Sith. Plus, it's a galaxy there's going to be conflicts of one form or another.

Forgive me, I'm not as up on this stuff as some of you: Where is it established that the Jedi have had no contact with any Sith for 1,000 years?

Don't get me wrong, I would rather the Dark Force Users in Project Luminous be fundamentally different than the Sith in some meaningful and obvious ways. But I'm curious to know just how constrained by current canon the storytellers will be with regards to the Sith in the High Republic era.

There it is - Ki Adi Mundi says "The Sith have been extinct for a Millennia." And even if he's exaggerating a bit, that would still rule out Jedi/Sith conflict during the High Republic era.

I never thought about it before, but it makes me wonder why Qui-Gon would immediately conclude Maul was a Sith. I really do hope that whatever form the Dark Side users take in Project Luminous, the writers make them distinctive from the Sith.
