General Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker News and Rumors Thread

At this point the best thing to do is to wait for some (any!) information about the movie before jumping to conclusions. We'll see soon enough whether there's something worth worrying about.

In the lead-up to each of the movies in the Sequel Trilogy, there seems to be one point that Disney/Lucasfilm continually wants to drive home.

For "The Force Awakens" it was - it won't be like the Prequels. They weren't going to put it in a such straight forward terms, because that would have been insulting to Lucas - but it was pretty clear what they were getting at when they talked about practical effects and real sets.

For "The Last Jedi" it was all about it being "different". They wanted to make sure everybody knew that it wasn't going to borrow as heavily from the the structure of the Original Trilogy the way "The Force Awakens" did.

After reading about Tood Fisher's recent comments, one particular thing he said caught my attention, and I'm betting it will be the marketing theme for Episode 9 - this one is for the fans. Over the next 16 months, I'm predicting we are going to hear that time and again.

 

That's true! But I think that the marketing theme for IX is going to be something along the lines of "tying up/celebrating the entirety of the Saga." At one point J.J. said that he wants it to be a conclusion of not only this trilogy but the Saga in general.

 

I think it will be market as the ending of the Skywalker saga. The next trilogy will have the marketing of "something new" then.

Possibly but probably not needed. He is not likely going to be very physical in his role. Throw some robes on him. Then place the computer generated blue haze around him and the chubbiness won’t be too noticeable

 

The arms looks a little broad to be that of a female, especially a petite person like Daisy Ridley. It could even be Poe in a new uniform or part of the crew.

 

What I can’t understand is why that person in white has a light blue glove... :/

I hate that when searching for SW news the same one comes up which is;Daily Express who gets their crap from Mike Zeroh...uggghhh. They both dominate the news on IX. Sad really.

• Your point is spot-on; however, I politely disagree with the first observation concerning “The Force Awakens.” True, Lucasfilm was greatly distancing itself from the PT, but the message was not “it won’t be like the prequels” since the marketing campaign did everything under the sun to ensure the film was scrubbed clean of every mention of episodes I, II, and III, (down to the removal of Anakin’s pod-racing flag from Maz’s castle.) The point Disney was driving home was more like: “It’s just like the OT.”
• Because this, I don’t think the marketing campaign for IX will be “this one’s for the fans.” Instead, Episode IX’s official marketing strategy will be: “This movie will unite EVERYONE.” It will have heaping amounts of OT references, but after seeing Maul in Solo, Disney may be daring enough to draw elements of the prequels into this final installment of the Skywalker saga. (Personally, I hope they go full circle and end on Naboo.)

 

Gosh, I never thought of that. THAT would be amazing.

I would also love, and I've been saying this since way before Ep. VII, for them to do QUITE a bit more to connect these films to the OT/PT through use of revisits to old planets and most importantly inclusion of PT/OT aliens. The lack of original aliens in the new trilogy has been......jarring. It's felt like a totally disconnected, separate galaxy because of it.
