SPECULATION General Star Wars: ORPA Discussion Thread

I feel like this is just the perfect platform for us to abuse whenever we feel like pushing an agenda in the hopes Al considers canonizing it in the comic.

Objection: I cannot believe you would devise such a treacherous plan against the master! The mere I want to see Doop in an afro haircut thought of it absolutely disgusts my behaviour core! It would I want us to meet uncle Flappy go against my very programming to agree being Saber and Missy sitting in a tree a part of this vile plan.

For what it's worth, when @Alamact approached me about continuing the comic, I took a pretty blasè attitude about the whole thing. I send him my stuff like "good luck and whatever," and that remains the extent of my involvement to this day.

What Al has created since then is entirely from his own efforts. For me, it's been entertaining to watch the quality of the artwork going up and up just like it did when I was running the show (and at this point, I think it's surpassed me in most respects already.)

I always considered the thing community property granted A: I don't have any stake in the Star Wars name and B: it wouldn't exist without a bunch of people all getting into it, so I just kinda threw it out there whenever someone wanted to take over. I didn't really give a damn whether it worked or not, and I honestly didn't expect it to go anywhere.

So congratulations to Al for making it work. My expectations were already exceeded the moment it actually got to page 2, but it's still worth noting a year later that it's still going on. Sure as hell took it farther than I expected or did myself in the first place.

 

Jeez, I'm actually getting all misty-eyed. This is probably the best endorsement I could have honestly hoped for.

 

Just to hit the point home, I sat here like "wait, is @Alamact a dude or a lady?" when I was writing the pronouns in that post, because I genuinely don't know. I mean sheeeit, I made my avatar a Fallout version of Kestrel, so one may assume of me at this point.

I took a guess that you're a dude so apologies if I'm wrong. Point being that it's yours now, and my name is just a passing curiosity at this juncture.

Last time I checked, I was definitely a guy - although I can understand the holocron avatar does tend to leave it somewhat ambiguous.

This is partially true. Since I am quite the continuity freak (and I've hilariously stated as such in my first message to Lankist), every time there's a story beat incoming that reintroduces plots and characters from the original comic, I send brief (or ridiculously lengthy) notes asking about arbitrary details such as Galt's accent and manner of speech, or which planets the original gang visited.

As the adventure went on, and as more files were passed down to me, I started to rely less on this and more on my own intuition to connect the dots between parts of the original comic. You do have to understand that roughly six years have passed since, as the guy now holding the continuity together, I can't exactly trust my own memory as absolute fact.

Yeah, that was the initial idea. I looked at the roster of the original (including characters like Jan and Jane) and started thinking about ways to complement that ensemble. That's how Doop and Saber came to be, from a visual standpoint. Missy eventually took Ratchet's place as the third protagonist due to a result of the Ascendancy getting a bigger role in the story, but Jun was there since the beginning, for example. The basic concept for the character came as a mixture of Kestrel and Jane (only male) because I figured we needed an alien non Force-sensitive in the new team and having him be a Mirialan would have hearkened back to the original.

Similarly, the guy we now identify as Stan is the product of simply getting a blonde fella into the group to parallel Jane. Considering that neither of our new protagonists had facial hair, a beard was added to compensate. There was also a brief period of time where I considered he would most likely end up a renegade foil to Doop's paragon persona (in addition to being non-playable) - but the crazy thing is, the exact opposite happened as a result of the suggestions.

This is what @Lankist means when he says that this is mostly considered as a story that's community-based, rather than just being a fixed tale told by a single person. You're all part of the process, I'm just here to curate.

Oh, for quite some time now. Since page 109 to be exact. Not only are we entering a new chapter, but we're also introduced to a completely new character. In fact, the plot is so far removed from the Holocron and Senate storylines that you could practically walk in blind and still not feel like you're lost in what's been going on - pretty much as @Jedi General joined up about a week ago.

Now, I know you're all waiting for the next update - and I admit I'm a bit guilty of taking a brief respite around Valentine's Day, but you'll be treated with the first detail panel of Stan tonight as I'm hopeful about completing the full update within the next 24 hours.
