Some of his films were interesting from a philosophical view point. This one is a disaster I think I could only watch a few minutes of it closely I think it was on in the back ground for awhile but it was just a 60's party romp. Not recommending it as fine cinema but it I picked up the same sort of vibe from the Cantina.

Names are meaningful in Star Wars. I'm watching the Dave Filoni/Rebels Season 2 press conference on YouTube right now (because Tuesday night, I guess) and the subject of names came up there as well. Filoni references the old EU and the huge number of X's Y's and Z's that appeared in character names there, and how much that differed from what George had done in the movies. Sometimes the meaning behind a name may be literal, like Darth Vader or Han Solo. Sometimes, though, it reference something else in culture. That means that the meaning behind the name, whatever it may be, is more important than how silly it may sound.

And besides, silliness is a part of Star Wars. Lots of people seem to forget that.

I have not yet fully wrapped my mind around 'Poe Dameron,' but it sounds a lot better to me now than it did last December. And once I see Poe in action, I'm sure it'll feel perfectly natural. Same goes for Snoke (or 'Snork,' as I first read it). We have absolutely no context for the name at the moment, but that will change.

I swear, the sooner this "Kira Rey" blast dies out, the happier I will be as a fan and a reader of fandmade speculation. It belongs in the trash, along with "The Ancient Fear" and "Evil Luke".

Her name is Rey. "Kira" is a production name, unless it happens to be the character's real identity while she uses "Rey" as an alias. You didn't see Kenobi running around calling himself Ben Obi-Wan.

Again: I hope "Kylo Ren" isn't his real name. Kira Rey, no matter how many times I hear it, does not sound good. It sounds like it belongs with 'Billie Jean' and 'Peggy Sue'. I took an instant liking to Kira. I took an instant liking to Rey. Not so with Kira Rey.

Also, if MSW is so sure that 'Kira' is her real name, by that logic 'Rose' and 'Uber' are actual names as well (Notice how he didn't have a hint as to what Maz and Snoke's real names were until they were announced). End 'Kira Rey' rant #???.

Unless I missed something, he doesn't. He's always maintained that it's a code name from the set. "Kira Rey" comes from people who are trying to make her and Kylo siblings.

In his recent "News from weeks ago that I'm acting like is from today!" article, he said this: "who might actually be Kira Solo if we want to jump out of a limb". I could've sworn he referred to her as 'Kira' recently, though my memories may be blurring. I also recall him saying he was shocked when the names were announced and that she wasn't called 'Kira' over at the Jedi Council forum.

You could be right. I just don't think he's said "her real name is Kira." I could be wrong, and I really don't know. I don't commit his posts to memory. :)

MSW didn't have any of the real names in the material they are referencing, which I think is pretty much confirmed to be a shooting schedule of some kind (although no-one who has seen it likes to admit that is what it is for some reason).
Just the production code names, which included vessels, key items and locations. Some stuff even had more than one code name for different shots.

MSW have given no indication as to why they think Rey would just be an alias for a real name, or why that real name would be the same as the code name used during production:

I think the idea that Rey is just an alias originally came from somewhere else, and MSW have just latched on to it, but I can't find the source right now.
And, either way, I can't believe for a second they would choose the name for a hidden identity to be the same as the production name which was visible to the public, were this the case:

Wasn't 'Kira' posted on the speeder at Celebration?

    Why do that?

Why use the production name when 5 feet away, the character costume is in a glass case using with name 'Rey'?

The name 'Rey' had already been revealed for some time before Celebration, so they obviously weren't trying to hide anything.

I think they're messing with us. Trying to say something without saying it.

If Kira is a production name, isn't it possible the name of the group commissioned to create that piece had not been given the name "Rey" yet as it may have been proprietary/under-wraps at the time the piece was commissioned?

My recollection was that Disney / Bad Robot was aware as the company who made the prop got specs from Disney/Bad Robot and that name "Kira" was on the docs...

As has already been explained, the replica was definitely built by fans, using "some film production information provided by Lucasfilm".

The actual title of the exhibit was "Kira's Bumper Car" - so that's not only the production code name for the character, but also the code name for her speeder. Which kind of suggests that, whatever plans the 501st Legion Belgian Garrison were given access to, they were also named that way.
It kind of does what it says on the tin - it is a 1:1 scale recreation of a prop that was called "Kira's Bumper Car" during production.

Not sure why there is so much hatred over the name 'Kira' or the possibility that her name would be 'Kira Rey'.

    Snoke.

That's all I have to say.

Personally, I certainly don't have a disliking for "Kira" or "Kira Rey" to be honest, I just don't think that is what will be in the film...
