The way they're talking this up it's as though they're going to show the actual film, when in fact it's just some toys being opened.

Perhaps she is excited to check out the wreck of a modern Tie Fighter that Finn has told her about before other scavengers get there? The meeting of Finn and Rey must be such a humorous clash between hyper modern and primitive outer rim culture. I bet he is baffled by it all.


No twin sun in the background... Rey is very lonely.

EDIT: I have seen much speculation that Finn is this coward mamas boy totally useless in a sticky situation and i think a lot of it comes from the first two trailers where we only see him stressed out or running behind Rey trying to keep up .I think most recent images suggests otherwise though and we even see him use a lightsaber ( force sensitive or not ?) . The toy packaging points out he is "a trained warrior desperate to escape his past". I think he knows how too fight and be brave, he is just a bit lost in this new totally life altering situation. He is used to taking orders , now he has to make his own decisions maybe for the first time in his life.

Both Rey and Finn while have a lot of character growth and development in this and the next movies. But what about Poe ? Wherein does his development lie ? Is he irresponsible , reckless ? Is Leia grooming him to be a leader instead ?

 

One thing for sure is that the marketing for this movie is using a lot of stuff centered on Jakku, as if it's the only planet in the movie. We're not getting much of a taste of the other planets (apart from was briefly seen in the teasers). Even with the toys and merchandise, the other planetary environments presumably from the movie are pretty much ignored in favor of Jakku.

 

Jakku is the first act planet. So they'd rather put stuff out that's in the first act rather than a later act when given the choice.

It's the planet of the main hero character. The new Tatooine or Lothal equivalent. Rey's starting planet. Instead of farming moisture, she "farms" scrap.

"Rey is a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku."

In one of the new look-and-find books it says "Rey is a skilled desert scavenger. She looks through old junk and finds good, usable parts. ... Rey trades in her latest haul for something to eat."

They registered websites visitjakku.com and planetjakku.com possibly for some later marketing tie in.

 

I feel like I'm watching nerd QVC.

 

I wonder if the toy leaks annoyed all the companies involved.

 

Based on the live feed looks like Poe's black X wing will have purple engine exhaust?

That's how it's ALWAYS been, we are not just getting little bits. We knew squat going into TPM... we had 1 trailer and 13 photos or something like that... for TFA we'll have 3 trailers & hundreds of photos. I think when ESB came out people were completely unaware of Yoda.

 

It seems like there will be no surprises. I hope I am dead wrong.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to seeing the remote control BB-8, and especially the more expensive Sphero version.

 

For me this wait has been 30 years (haha). But Yeah we've all been waiting since the announcement. I remember what it was like speculating if one of the big 3 wouldn't show for TFA. & then how we all seemed to hate the title "TFA" (haha... well I tried to say that it would grow on me).

I know what you mean man... just a little more patience, we are getting a trailer soon that will blow our minds. & then... a movie that will obliterate our serotonin levels... if it's the movie I think it's going to be

One thing that has me worried though... I've been listening to "the secret history of star wars" on audible (I think everyone on this forum should check that out IMO).. I think what made the first 3 films so great was that Lucas agonized over those scripts... took 3 years to write ANH, and he consulted with people like Coppola & Spielberg to revise his script many times (5 drafts). I have confidence that a lot of consulting was done for TFA... or at least I hope. Lucas also devoured all forms of media during the writing process. I have a feeling that's not what JJ is like... or the type to borrow from other works & reinvent those ideas into his own work like Lucas did.

 

All these different time zones are confusing. I'll just be glad to see it happen again on GMA in the morning!
