I don't think there is an average. ANH and ESB were a little over 2 hours. ROTJ and TPM were around 135minutes (give or take a minute or so). AOTC/ROTS were 142 and 140 respectively. Many consider ANH/TESB to be the best in the saga.

Ep. 4 was very short...they just kept getting longer and longer since. I'm guessing about 5-7 minutes for a modern graphics-heavy blockbuster.

 

Some directors have the mindset that less is more, and evidently Abrams is one of them.

 

Shorter is better and that's been the mindest behind this entire campaign. They always leave the fans wanting more, whether it's with the short teasers or with the movie

In the Star Wars trilogy there is always a central love story, in the OT Han and in the PT Anakin and Padme. Even though the latter was rather cheesy and over saturated, I think a central love story is something I think is unavoidable. Though I don't think a love story will be in TFA, I do think it will be highlighted in VIII since the other two love stories weren't hilighted until the second movie of the trilogy.

Now this is where speculation begins. Who will be the central love story? I have two scenarios involving characters we're already given.

1) Finn and Rey. From what we know from the given rumored plot line, Rey helps Finn out of a tough spot on Jakku and he's instantly attached while Rey is very suspicious and maybe even resentful to him at first. If I was Finn I couldn't imagine him not being attracted to this mysterious beautiful woman who saved his life. Rey on the other hand seems to be a hardened independent female who is not easily charmed, similar to Leia. But maybe she will have change of heart by the end of TFA that we can see a budding relationship in VIII similar to Han and Leia.

2) Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma I know this is probably a stretch but I couldn't think of a more unique way to display love ( or maybe just lust) in the Star Wars. What if it is revealed I'm TFA that they had a sexual relationship and both lust for power? Talk about a power couple.

Now I could say Poe and Rey but there's not much known on how much interaction the have if any in TFA.
Or a love story can bid from a new character in VIII. I know some people might roll their eyes at the thought of a love story in the ST but Love is strong theme that drives both the original and prequal trilogies.
Thoughts?

 

Even though ANH and ESB are the shortest of the saga (so far), the movies didn't feel short to me.

 

This still from an OFFICIAL release (thanks to EW) still makes me wonder......

Will a certain character finally get his wish of dying in a SW?

Exactly, they feel longer cause they move quickly. They are able to move through scenes faster which shows you more movie. Instead f being bogged down with endless dialog.... etc.

They look like they just went through some sh...stuff, Rey's face is a little dirty. Could be a somber moment right after it happens but before they regroup at the Resistance fleet.

As for ratings, don't sweat it, it's just someone's opinion. Wait till you get a "Trolling" just for describing a prequel. That's always fun.

Except it is old news...
The picture surfaced on some merchandise leak way back in August.
Many of us have already noticed the same thing.

What do you mean by "Official release" though?
Has a proper, unmodified still from the movie been officially released somewhere?

Just because I'm a nerd, I actually went back sometime ago and timed out all the SW films... so, here's the runtime for each, give or take a few seconds.
This is from pan to fade out... not counting opening logo and opening crawl...

Episode I 128:00
Episode II 134:06
Episode III 132:00
Episode IV 118:21
Episode V 120:00
Episode VI 126:00

 

So a 124 min runtime would make TFA the 3rd shorted film in the saga, being 6 min longer than ANH and 8 min less than AOTC.

also...they have the runtime at 130mins,which isn't set in stone yet,obviously.

 

Usually some of these places guess at the run time. But 130 minutes wouldn't be bad. I never stick around for the end credits, so it would be a solid 2 hour movie for me.

 

Grand Cinemas get on that blast! I ain't going all the way to Innaloo!

 

Still not sure where I want to go...
My nearest Event is a bit small and in major need of a renovation.
The other two Event cinemas are about 20 minutes away.
A local independent cinema chain has the biggest screen, has cheaper tickets... but is even further away.

Hey NERD ( I am one also) this was the sort of attention to detail that some of us were looking for .
So, if J.J. holds true to his word and it runs 124, I think that is a perfect run-time.
