That and that if they announce that they're going to drop a trailer, it's on pretty short notice. I think the longest time they gave us official notice before an ad arrived was the four or so days before the second Rogue One teaser was shown at the Olympics. The other times that I remember (the first The Force Awakens teaser and the trailer in October) gave us only a day of warning before they dropped. Officially, they're extremely quiet about when something comes or goes.

I wonder if breznican will get a heads up to help promote celebration? Might be worth (for those interested) checking his tweets/articles in the week before celebration?

He could, but technically that wouldn't be "official" or from Lucasfilm.

I think they have to leave the island before the climax of the movie.

Myself, I really like the idea of Luke, after 5 years or whatever, showing back up at the casino, reactivating an old source, like a sleeper agent.

I think we should get an idea of what Luke was up to since endor other than trainings jedi and sitting in a hut on a mossy island. And doing that in some form that isn't flashback or just straight exposition (both of which will likely happen in TLJ) would be cool.

It's always better to be shown rather than told.

Consider the early mos Eisley Cantina scenes (everything before Greedo). That sequence introduces Han & Chewie, sure, and it moves the plot forward.

But those sequences mostly acts to establish what a bad@$$ Kenobi is.

He takes Luke to a dangerous city (which isn't the closest (anchor head and Tashi's station (so?) were closer I believe, at least that's the implication of the dialogue), but it is the best place to get a clandestine flight out quickly.

He knows the Stormtroopers are going to be watching the place, but doesn't say anything to Luke. He knows he can handle it and doesn't want to freak out Luke. He breezes through the checkpoint.

He knows what bar to go to in town. He takes down two murderers (you don't have the death sentence on 12 systems for ripping off mattress tags) without ever losing his cool. He tries to diffuse the situation (smart, since he wants to keep a low profile), but when that fails, he brutally shows what a bad dude he still is, without hesitation.

He also keeps his light saber on long after he needs to, with Alec Guinness masterfully looking around for more attackers but also giving an incredible "anyone else want a piece of me? I can do this all day."

After that, He reveals that he's already found someone (I do love that ROTS makes the Chewie-Kenobi connection make sense, because it's implied Yoda told Kenobi how he got off the Wookie planet--and that Yoda & Chewie were buddies), and cuts a tough deal with a pirate that works for both of them, and shows Kenobi is a man who is connected & while deserves trust (Han knows what the saber means and probably recognizes the robes--also, the ROTS retcon implies that Chewie vouched for him in some way when he talked to Han offscreen ("Cherie tells me...") but is also someone who is wanted by the Empire...therefore someone who Han would trust in that "honor among thieves" kind of way. He's not a spy or cop.

I would love it if the casino scene was a way to show that Luke had an interesting life during the time between ROTJ & TFA.

Now when you put it that way Yes Please. even if people complain that it rips of ANH a casino scene like that would be very nice. Plus Lule already has the Myth thing going.

Maz might own a casino, seeing as her cantina castle is now nothing but rubble on Takodana.

a casino scene would by default look different from a Cantina or Max's watering hole (freaking JJ, ugh). It could visually be something of a callback to the sports bar in AOTC where Kenobi & Anakin go, but it would be much more subtle and feel a lot fresher than one of the laziest JJ ripoffs in ANH.

Please no. In my opinion, that would feel forced and repetitive (which describes lots of TFA). SW needs to illustrate how expansive the galaxy is, not make it feel smaller by having everyone be related to each other (see the theory that Finn was Lando's son, and the real possibility Rey either Luke or Leia's daughter).

We already saw Maz's place. She needs to return in TLJ to explain things that JJ was too lazy/greedy/inept to flesh out in TFA.

At that point, she can exit stage left.

I love Lando, but I'm against this as well.

We know Lando, we like him and trust him.

But what made his appearance in ESB so great was he was new, different, and wasn't on anybody's side for most of the movie.

Having BDT own the casino, or some other new character, allows the galaxy to feel a little bigger, a little more real, and keeps the audience guessing.

As for Lando owning the casino, while still possible, we should keep one thing in mind. Unlike the EU, in the new Canon Lando gets Cloud City back. Granted, a lot can change between then and the new trilogy. If he's wealthy enough he could even own casinos on multiple worlds too. Just something to keep in mind though.

    Good point.

Lando owning a casino and being approached by Finn and/or Poe at Leia's orders or by Luke & Rey makes sense given what we've seen in the OT.

In fact, I'd have loved it if TFA began with Poe going to see Lando at his version of the Belagio on Coruscant or Correllia (sp?) or Udapow (sp?) because Lando had bought information about the location of the first Jedi temple from some slimy informant and knows it is likely legit & could be helpful to the Resistance so he gives Leia a heads up so she can send someone to grab it.

    That would have been awesome.

I want them to use Lando if it makes sense for the characters involved and helps the narrative in a natural way. Unfortunately, we have no evidence in TFA or the books that Lando will pop up in the next two films.

Also, any involvement by BDW in TLJ hasn't been confirmed or even hinted at, whether by social media, airport spotting, etc.

Would love to see him worked into the next two movies if done well.

Agreed, provided it works naturally for the story, I would love to see the coolest man in the Star Wars galaxy again.

My own personal take on lando is that he has to atleast be at Han's funeral service if there is one in the movie. Just personal opinion.

    Excellent point.

I wonder would BDW come back just for a cameo?

I completely agree with your assertion. Hell, I thought one of the only appearances of Jar Jar that worked was him showing up at the funeral for Padme.

From what I've read, BDW wants to come back, but I don't how he'd feel about coming back for what I have to think would be a quick silent cameo.

Though if his appearance was like Jimmy Smits in Rogue One, that would be A) awesome and B) appropriate

And not to toot my own horn, but if Lando appears at the funeral, that allows him to play a much larger role in IX and help fill in for Leia as a counselor/Resistance contact for Luke. I don't want to get off on a tangent since I started a thread about Lando and EIX.

But again, I agree that if we see Hans funeral (or if it's a memorial for those killed in Hosnian system and in the Starkiller base attack by the Resistance---which would include Han) then you have the perfect opportunity to have BDW's Lando return to the SW films.

Also, if Rian felt compelled to bring back Yoda (as rumored), I can easily imagine him being compelled to bring back Lando as well ;)

My only issue with bringing Lando back is that he looks literally nothing like the "lando" that we know...when the original three were in TFA they looked very much like their old selves.

Another good point. I feel like RJ is like Gareth Edwards in that he loves the material and can pay homage to it without those references feeling derivative or repetitive like many of JJs callbacks (though not all---I loved the inclusion of the white training globe on the MF, the chess game, the updated Han hoth jacket, and many others.)

RO was amazing for many reasons but the meticulous attention to detail about being back ANH characters to do NEW things was one of the best parts.

If RJ brings back Lando (who must be wearing a cape, because only BDW, Vader, and Batman have ever made wearing a cape look cool), and he's sitting or walking with Nien Nub, then has LC effect the narrative in a cool way, I will get hammered off Colt 45 that night.

I disagree about Leia & Luke. Her forehead and mouth moved like a human in ROTJ.

I don't know what the Botox budget was for TFA was, but it was a lot.

You could tell it was Hamill, but he looked more like the Dude (Lebowski) than he did in 1983.

Hamill has slimmed down even more, and I think he'll look more like Young Luke in TLJ, but I don't think BDW looks that different than he used to, if you are comparing his aging to that of Carrie and Mark...
