I like the post (and respect the time and effort required to write it), but they won't do things exactly the same as they did in the promotional campaigns for TFA & RO.

They'll like use EW, because everyone kind of does. They might use Time magazine to reach older fans who don't keep up with SW due to having kids/demanding jobs/lost the desire to follow stuff like SW anymore.

They'll almost certainly have the cast appear on Kimmel's show, and not always one at a time.

We could see a trailer released during college football's opening weekend (which is huge for ESPN) which is Labor Day weekend.

I don't know who has the rights to the NBA Finals, but that's in June and ABC used to televise the Finals...

Monday night football debuts (usually with a doubleheader) on that Monday one week after Labor Day.

Sunday night baseball goes all summer until late September and they have the last game of every series and it's usually a massively attractive matchup like Cubs-Cardinals, Mets-Braves, and of course Red Sox-Yankees.

They will implement a carefully crafted strategy and whenever they choose to drop content won't always be as expected.

They released the RO trailer during the Olympics on NBC. Very unpredictable.

There's lots of opportunities for them and the summer doldrums aren't the best time for mass releases, so after D23 (is this year D23?) we likely will not get too much until after CFB & the NFL have premiered and settled in, then they can start the ramp up for TLJ.

I keep bringing this point up and no one has ever commented on how it will be dealt with, but Thor3 and Justice League both come out in November. They will both be separately be vying for attention starting in late September.....

I'm not sure how LFL and Disney will handle one friendly movie and one rival's movie being released and promoted so close together.

My pal was on one of those Star Wars cruises.

    Pablo gave a seminar.

    Check this out.

So, I got to attend a seminar/ Q&A with Pablo Hidalgo a couple of days ago. I know these points I'm about to cover would go in a lot of different threads, but I thought it would be easier to just condense them all here. Keep in mind I've been incommunicado for the last week, so if any of this has been announced or anything, I apologize.

    1) the fourth season is definitely the last season of Rebels
    2) I asked how closely events that happen in Rebels/ Clone Wars would tie into future events that would happen in Saga movies such as The Last Jedi. He said very much so
    3) our favorite storylines in Clone Wars ( Yoda arc, Mortiss, Seventh Sister...) were all Lucas stories, and are absolutely integral to the understanding of the Force going forward
    4) I asked him privately when the new cartoon was set, he wouldn't tell me. He said "go to Celebration."
    5) they are VERY much aware of Yoda's line in ROTJ re: Luke being the last of the Jedi and the fact stragglers like Kanan and Ezra are roaming around the galaxy. They have no plans to make Yoda a liar
    6) Episode 8 will answer A LOT of questions about the Jedi and what happened with Ben turning to the Dark Side. He did accidentally hint that info re: Rey would be answered as well
    7) the time between ROTJ and TFA is definitely a fertile area for exploration and he gave the impression that there absolutely will be projects set in that time frame.
    8) he really explained the different movements/ affiliations in TFA. So, the new Republic that is significantly smaller than the Empire was just as the Empire was smaller than the Old Republic. When the Old Republic went down, there were still all those factions left is the Seperatists that never joined the Empire and the never joined the new Republic. So it wasn't some huge galaxy-spanning organization. Since the fall of the Empire, remnants of it have been coalescing and eventually became the First Order. While they were building in power, Leia was trying to get the Republic to open its eyes and see what's happening. They wouldn't (reminiscent of the Jedi before the Clone Wars) so she and others created the Resistance to publicly oppose the First Order. I was glad he explained this. It makes much more sense now.

Finally I've pulled myself together and watched another film from RJ's bucket list. This time it was "Twelve O'Clock High," a fantastic war drama starring Gregory Peck in the role of general Frank Savage who gets appointed to 918th US Bombardment Group located in the UK in 1942. The group was becoming ineffective, started to lose morale and in Savage's opinion they needed someone to govern them with a hard hand in order to boost their efficacy in combat. However, after some time, he has a change of heart... and I won't tell you anything more because this film is definitely worth your time.

How it can connect to TLJ? First of all, since this a film about fighter pilots, there is a scene showing off aerial combat and the banter between the pilots could definitely inspire Episode VIII's dialogue. Additionally, I'm really intrigued by the whole idea of a person from outside of a group taking reign over a military unit in order to increase their effectiveness in combat, especially since both the First Order and the New Republic might be in a need of a good kick in their butts after what happened in TFA. Time will only tell. Only two last films to go!

PS. Also, this film is quite courageous for its time in how it shows the effect of war on soldiers, both physically and mentally. We saw some hints of it in Rogue One and I'm wondering if we'll see this topic explored to a greater depth in TLJ.

Thank you for sharing this. I have been trying to confirm that in the last days with no luck. Now Pablo commented himself.

Can you give any clarifications on which bits you are not certain? There is some really interesting info in this. :)

I've been doing the same thing with RJ's list and posted some reviews in the RJ thread. Agreed with your comments about its depiction of war -- I was surprised at how candid it was with its depiction of how taxing a militarized operation can be and how miserable it makes everyone. I guess I expected it to have more of a propaganda sheen, since it was made in the 40s, and so soon after WWII.

Anyway, to add to your review, here are my thoughts on Twelve O'Clock High:

And here are my thoughts on To Catch a Thief as it relates to TLJ (I'll put it in spoiler tags in case you haven't watched it yet):

"North by Northwest is one of my favorite movies, directed by Hitchcock and starring Cary Grant, so I was excited to see them pair up again. I still prefer NxNW, but this one has a breezier, more effortless tone, driven by Grant's portrayal of a suave, playful, playboy ex cat burglar. It's set in a post-Resistance French Riviera. Grant was involved with the Resistance, but has a tense relationship with them now because they don't like how he's basically a self-centered materialist -- imagine if Han Solo never returned at the end of A New Hope to help Luke blow up the Death Star, and instead went and bought himself a villa on Naboo. The main plot involves Grant trying to figure out who is framing him for a string of jewel burglaries, and Grace Kelly plays a wealthy heiress who develops a playful/romantic rapport with him and helps him try to set traps for the real thief. Given that there's a lot of sneaking around on rooftops and witty banter, I'm assuming this movie will have the most relevance for Boyega's storyline, specifically his interactions with Kelly Marie Tran (who has a comedic background) and the rumors of them infiltrating the First Order. In addition to the Grant/Kelly dynamic, it's possible RJ might also draw from Grant's relationship with a female Resistance member called Robie, who both aids and hinders him. Additionally, the "Casino world" may be a direct nod to the French Riviera as depicted in this movie."

Here's the full post, where I also speculate about Three Outlaw Samurai (which I've yet to see):

    Nice recap.
I've also noticed that 3 of the movies Rian mentioned - Letter never Sent, Sahara and Gunga Din - have a story-line involving a group of people who loses contact with another.
Letter never Sent -> the 4 heros are trapped by a forest fire and find themselves completely cut of from the civilized world
Sahara -> The crew of Bogart gets separated from its their unit
Gunga Din -> First you have the 3 heros trying to discover why contact has been lost with a British outpost. Then 1 one of them leaves the regiment and get capturated, so will his friends (plus Gunga) trying to save him till the rest of the army rescue them...

I guess maybe some of the "heros" in TLJ will lost contact with the rest of Resistence. (I find this more likely than someone of the FO getting lost).

This is a great insight, and I would be surprised if we don't see something like this.

One idea I've had before, which is a twist on this: What if Rey and Kylo get marooned together somewhere? I could see a scenario (for example) where they are chasing after the same Force artifact, and something happens where it's just the two of them stranded. This doesn't need to go into Reylo territory, but I feel like the charged, ambivalent connection between Rey/Kylo is something Rian might want to explore, especially given that they are both on a path of spiritual training.

Couple of clarifying points on the OP:

I also know the guy who posted the original info. He's a member of a message board that I post on frequently. He posted those 8 points without having any idea they'd be picked up by and spread across the internet. He feels kinda badly about all of this.

First of all, he posted from his phone at the airport having arrived back from the cruise and just wanted to jot down what he could remember for a bunch of us who are big fans and wanted to hear all about the cruise. The post wasn't especially thorough or as clear as it could have been. And again, he didn't expect it to get around.

The bit about Rebels being the final season was a slip up. Pablo was answering a question and said something like "we have one more season of Rebels... oops... I mean ANOTHER season of Rebels is coming." Then he said something like "don't tell anyone I said that." The Poster thought it was funny and admitted that it wasn't confirmation of anything; he just wanted to share it with us because we're big fans of Rebels and have been speculating on whether or not the show will end after next season. Again, he didn't know this would go viral at any level and really feels badly that it's gone as far as it has.

As far as the "talked to Pablo privately" thing... here's what happened according to the guy who was on the cruise: "It wasn't really private. He was shaking hands and snapping pics after the Q&A. When it came my turn, we chatted briefly about our ages and how cool all this would've been when we were kids, just general stuff like that. Then, I said something like "any hints on the timeline on the new cartoon?" And, with a chuckle, he replied "go to Celebration." There were about 15-20 other people around that could've heard it if any of them were listening to our conversation."

I'm only posting all of this on his behalf because I know he feels weird about all of it and he doesn't want to make things worse. He respects Pablo and never had any intention of "leaking" anything or bringing on this kind of speculation. He wants to drop the whole thing but I thought it was only right to post something that explained the context a little more clearly. Hope all of this makes sense.

Thanks for all your great work. Keep the news/rumors coming.

From the sound of things, it appears as though Kylo Ren and the other KOR crash-land on Ahch-To with no apparent way out. So it's not impossible for this kind of a scene to happen.

    This is my take

Certain avian wildlife (or even a mechanical falcon) on the planet could certain interfere with the ship the KOR are on and prevent it from landing smoothly, or functioning fully after it crashes. That removes their element of surprise and maintains the planet's residents' privacy. It robs the KOR of the ability to confirm to the rest of the FO that Luke and Rey are in fact on the planet.

I'm just throwing together details we've heard from various sources at different times. But it strikes me as a great payoff to the native wildlife rumor if they mess with KR and co. if/when they show up in a shuttle......

I've seen that very same clip used in the context of Luke and the Ahch-To birds, and I tell ya, I certainly don't get tired of it.

We're here to speculare so everything is possible.
However my take is if they're doing something like that (characters loosing contact with the test of their world ) it's to build something betweem them, to explore their relationship with one another and (as Oscar Isaac said) maybe to "test" them.
So I don't see the point of a story line involving the KOR.
Kylo and Rey? Not a big fan, but it could be. However I still think if they're going to do it, that will be about the "good guys" and the relationships between them.

Something that I've thought about a lot lately is that they are stranded together and realize that they have to work together to survive and get off the island together so they form a temporary truce and it is during this time that Kylo starts to turn back into Ben Solo and maybe Ben kills the rest of the KOR or something like that

Yes that could be. It would serve to build something between those 2 characters to use later on.

However, here are my problems with the idea of Kylo and Rey stuck on Ahch-To.

    - First, I'm not 100% sure we will get Kylo and the KOR on that Island, for real.
I guess that may be something like the Dagobah cave scene.

    - But let's say they will do it, for real. Beside I don't think he will kill the rest of the KOR
(I guess their death - for x reason - or loosig contact with them may precede the "being stuck "situation)
I don't see the purpose of having Kylo and Rey stuck there.
What kind of danger may they have to overcome? What could "test" them?
Perhaps I lack imagination. But... I don't know.

    I guess a place/planet like this http://makingstarwars.net/2017/01/s...cockpit-photo-from-the-salt-flats-in-bolivia/
whomever the characters involved may be could serve better the purposes: test and build something between them.
